Chapter 9: The Truth Comes to Light
——————————
First of all, thank you very much for reading me, I wanted to upload the first 15 chapters quickly but if I do it in a hurry I don't enjoy writing so I will try to do it in my own time.

The dawn was starting to filter softly through Mia's bedroom blinds. Marco was awake, watching as the light gently touched her skin, but his mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. The steady rhythm of Mia's breathing should have calmed him, but inside, the anxiety consumed him. For weeks, he had been turning the same thoughts over and over in his head, and he could no longer ignore them.
Finally, Mia stirred beside him, slowly opening her eyes. She smiled sweetly when she felt his presence and snuggled closer, seeking his warmth. Marco tensed, knowing what he had to do, but feeling more anxious with each passing second.
"Good morning," Mia murmured, still half asleep.
Marco didn't respond immediately, struggling with the words he was about to say. The silence made Mia notice something was wrong. She lifted her head to look at him, concern in her eyes.
"Marco, what's going on?" she asked softly, knowing something was troubling him.
He sat up in bed, his gaze fixed on the floor. The words felt heavy, impossible to ignore. He wasn't just about to break Mia's heart—he was about to betray Dom and the entire group. During the time he had spent with them, they had become more than just a crew; they had become a family he never thought he'd find. Dom had given him a place, Letty had accepted him, and even Brian, whom he had distrusted at first, now felt like a brother.
But it had all been a lie. And that lie was eating him alive.
"I need to tell you something, Mia. Something I should have told you from the beginning," he began, feeling his voice tremble.
She looked at him with confusion, sitting up beside him, but she didn't speak. She knew Marco was about to reveal something important.
"When I came here, when I got close to Dom and all of you… I didn't do it because I wanted to. At least, not at first," he admitted, taking a deep breath. "I came because I was on a mission. I had to infiltrate the group to find out if Dom and his crew were behind the truck hijackings."
Mia's face went pale. She stood up slowly from the bed, stepping back as Marco's words sank in.
"What?" Her voice was barely a whisper, full of disbelief.
Marco turned to look at her, desperate to explain himself.
"At first, yes, it was just a job. I infiltrated your circle to investigate. But, Mia, everything changed. I changed. You all became my family, more than just a mission. Dom treated me like a brother, Letty trusted me. Even Brian, with all the doubts I had about him, earned my respect. And you… you stole my heart."
Mia stood frozen, her hands trembling slightly as she tried to process the betrayal. Marco got up from the bed and approached her slowly, as if afraid she might run away.
"Mia, I didn't want this to go so far. I didn't want to betray you. But I can't keep living this lie," he said, his voice breaking. "I can't keep doing this because I love you. I love Dom, and the whole crew, like my family. But I love you in a way that's different, and that's the only truth that matters now."
Mia stared at him, her eyes filled with tears. She took a step back, placing a hand over her chest as if trying to steady herself.
"And Dom?" she asked, her voice fragile. "Have you been lying to him too? Have you been lying to all of us?"
Marco nodded, unable to meet her eyes at that moment.
"I haven't told them anything yet. No one knows. But I know I have to. I can't keep deceiving them, Mia. Dom is more than just a leader to me. He became the brother I never had. And Letty… I know she won't forgive me when she finds out, but I'd rather be honest and face the consequences."
Mia started pacing, clearly shaken. She stopped, looking at Marco, her voice thick with emotion.
"I can't believe everything has been a lie. We all trusted you, Marco. I trusted you," she said, her voice trembling.
"Not everything has been a lie, Mia," he responded quickly. "What I feel for you is real. What I feel for Dom, Letty, Brian… that's real. And that's why I want us to leave. You and me. Let's leave all of this behind. I don't want to betray Dom or the group anymore, and I don't want to lose you."
Mia looked at him, surprised, not fully understanding what he was proposing.
"Leave? Where?" she asked, still incredulous.
"Far away from all this chaos," Marco replied, taking a step toward her. "To the countryside, somewhere we can be at peace, where there are no missions, no races. Just the two of us, away from the lies and everything that's consuming us here. Mia, I want to be with you, without shadows, without secrets."
Mia stared at him, her eyes filled with confusion, pain, and a spark of hope. It was hard for her to imagine it—leaving everything she knew behind, her family, her life in Los Angeles. But something in Marco's words affected her deeply. She knew he was speaking from the heart.
"And Dom?" she asked again, her voice softer. "What are we going to tell Dom? I can't just disappear. He's my brother, Marco. I can't leave him behind."
Marco looked at her sadly. He knew Mia was right, but he also knew that staying meant losing everything, including her.
"I know, Mia. And I'm not saying we do it right away. But I want us to think about it. Dom would understand that we want to live our lives, away from danger. I could explain everything to him. I could even try to make amends with him. But for now, all I know is that I love you, and I can't stay here without being honest."
Mia watched him silently for a long moment, breathing deeply as she processed his words. Finally, she walked up to Marco, placing a hand on his cheek.
"This isn't going to be easy," she whispered. "But I want to believe in you, Marco. I want to believe that all of this is real."
Marco took her hand and kissed it softly, relieved by that small ray of hope in the midst of the storm.
"It is, Mia. It's the only thing that matters now."
