"What happened to your mother?" Evelyn asked him. Her eyes were moist and she blinked several times to not let them flow. 

Elric lowered his gaze at the floor and let out a sigh before replying, "She was going to the subordinate so had to take her life." 

She gasped in horror. There was no way she could feel what he was going through. Taking the life of his mother by his own hands. He might have to carry that heaviness on the shoulder for the rest of his life. 

"Is that why you tried to distance me from you?" She asked. 

He nodded and added, "I am not sure what has happened to me. And if it is something similar to what my mother suffered then I can't risk your life, Eve. Not that I didn't want to come to you. But when Wooster informed me how I had attacked you the night when you were returning home, still scares me. I can't handle any more death on my shoulder."
