Chapter 35: Practice
~Silva POV~
[July 11, X784]
Taking the time to meditate focusing on my Mana around myself I tried to focus on channeling my Mana within myself circulating through my body.
Mavis requested I should focus the mind when I tried creating Mana constructs as a basis to help get an idea of what I want to convert.
Looking through or rather sensing the Magic within the area I see I used the new skill I picked up <Mana Constructs> to help me get a better grasp of my Magic Power as well as confirmed a few theories Mavis had for me.
What I have trouble most right now is proper control of my own Mana as even right now as the burning sensation I felt before is not as great as it once was it's still present if even slightly there.
That alone Mavis figured out was a telltale sign of my Spirit resisting the spirit flow of nature at least according to her findings.
Then that means my own body hasn't fully accepted the continuous use of my own Mana being filtered in and out through the Gate of my soul injected into my veins as the painful sensations are present when I do so.
Thus Mavis suggested rather than do combat training for my control over Mana I needed to be in a place with high enough Ethernano within the area and meditate controlling my own internal Gate properly.
I have to let things flow naturally and not rush things.
I explained the sensations and ideas to her as she got a better grasp of my situation using Magic Power in my Magic.
She said I was rushing jobbing the process and than instead let it flow naturally without any distractions to let nature takes its course with me connecting the physical spirit of myself into the spiritual flow of nature, the spirit forms Magic as a product of the connection.
That's what I'm having a hard time connecting making it difficult for me to connect to my magic because of me not taking the time to practice. Thus, Mavis suggested I try to focus my spirit on following the flow of spiritual flow of nature.
By allowing the Mana to flow through me properly I have had the time to perfectly manage some control over it internally through my body given some time to naturally adjust with the flow of nature into my body.
[Ding!]
[You learned a Mana skill to increase defense!]
[Skill: <Courage> learned]
[<Mana Manipulation> LEVEL UP!]
Exhaling out some air Mavis comes flying to me with amusement in her voice gazing at my training she suggested, "Really needed to discipline yourself there eh, Silva? The best way to learn and adapt to your training is by meditating you know for someone of your situation at least."
Rolling my eyes at her statement I was the one who asked her for any insight on how to improve control over my Mana to which she replied it was best to test out any means to pull it off.
To her, though trying to teach me Magic or control relied on how much effort I put into my <Mana Manipulation> because my circumstances differ from most mages in Earthland.
In Earthland Mages or Wizards rely on their Origins to gather the Ethernano inside to convert it into Magic easily by instinct with some training but in my case is extremely different though in her words.
Because I'm the container with my Gate acting like a filter, I need to constantly be in control to improve my conversion of Mana into Magic Power. Origins do that automatically for the Mages with some effort but for me, I need the extra effort to formulate and cause the spells effect.
Then came the issue with my spirit as Mavis pointed out when I tried to connect with the flow of the world nature.
My physical spirit is resisting it.
But because my physical spirit isn't connected to the spiritual flow of things there was this sense of discord of connection of my magic to myself and when I showed her trying to conjure a spell she was flabbergasted and gave me an insight into how to proceed although this was new territory for her as well.
Although Mavis wasn't a genius for nothing this doesn't discourage her to try and help me on the means to improve myself after some notes of what I've been doing.
Then again, she seems to be having fun having pieces of paper out and making notes on my training. To which she tries to understand why I'm having a difficult time converting the Ethernano into Magic passing through my Gate or no signs of Magic Overuse.
She seems to be having fun and frustrated trying to figure me out. But at the very least I have a very capable Mage like Mavis around to point me out what way I need to improve my control to which she asked I try to connect my spirit to the flow of the world.
To which they have been effective to a degree. Like the case with my new skill, I just learned internally storing Mana within my body increasing my defenses as I was trying to take some control again.
Along with a few skills, I learned to try out some ideas. And speaking of new skills…
Skill list.

Description: Your hands are skilled in making people feel relaxed. This skill can cause more pain, relaxation, or pleasure with intent than normal as it helps the body to stimulate dead and damaged tissues and revitalize the human body.
----
I question the <Massage> part a lot comparing it to the hands of nirvana of another, guy that I know of but don't recall his name. I started to use this skill on myself feeling muscle cramps as I tried to relax my muscles letting my Mana adjust to my blood flow.
Although I didn't expect to gain this skill it will help me where I can recover my allies, fatigue if need be in dangerous situations with varying effects I tested on myself.
The effects are certainly something else, but that's for a later date not right now.
Feeling accomplished in my objective I looked towards Mavis giving her a bow for thanks helping me get this skill and adjusting my control, "Say Mavis was there anything different this time to the other times trying to control my Magic Power? Do any tips I should consider for meditating and connecting my spirit to Magic?
She hums questioningly at me kicking the air as she sat on one of the tree branches thinking as she expresses a smile on her face, "Other than the noticeable Ethernano surrounding you now… it seems like you channeling your Magic defensively is going well. The more you practice the more your body will get better adjusted. Things like these take time no need to rush to the results. But otherwise, just keep improving the skills you already have."
I couldn't help but nod helplessly at Mavis's words. Just basically keep on practicing what I've been doing but going to Mana constructs next according to her.
Honestly, she's like a breath of fresh air to all the craziness happening. Also helping me create these skills more effectively with trial and error before going into Magic.
Like that, she began to lecture me more about my connection to my Magic in a bit more serious tone, "Still though you must remember this Silva. Though Magic goes beyond reason, it is still born of reason and it takes an enormous amount of concentration and mental ability to use it. By truly understanding this one could wield Magic by understanding the spirit that resides in all of us."
Giving a curt nod I'll try to remember this lesson when I can.
Regardless though I'm able to 'see' Natsu and Erza both returning back to the guild with Spectator as the Guild scolds Natsu making me grin seeing Gray and Elfman spread the word out to them, "Seems like the duo finally returned back home Mavis. I think it's time to call it done for the day for training and time to search for a new adventure."
She smiled at that wanting me to go on the next adventure soon because of how bored she is wanting something exciting to happen in her life.
And I wouldn't blame her for it either considering I managed to make her take an interest in me as well as hope for her to alienate some of her boredom of her personal hell away if at all possible. But her curse though is the main issue.
Mavis got cursed by Ankhseram Black Magic, also known as the Contradictory Curse, is a Black Art that involves killing.
This Magic cannot be learned, but instead, true to its name as a curse, is brought upon someone by Ankhseram, who may do so to a person making light of the connections between life and death.
Zeref explained to Mavis that the more regard the cursed individual holds for life then the more they will end up killing inadvertently and only when they no longer have any regards to life will they stop killing at all which led this Magic to be known as the 'The Contradictory Curse.'
The main side effect of this curse is near-absolute immortality, with Zeref remarking that he couldn't kill Mavis and vice versa, even if their heads were separated from their bodies…
Hmm…
That's something I need to consider with some thought on the matter more personally and to see with Mavis if it's possible not to break her curse.
But for now, I have to play chaperone with a certain trio soon enough.
/////
*Zwam*
*Whoooo*
*Gratch*
*Krash*
*Bam*
*Smash*
*Boom*
Entering inside through the front gates of the guild what I just saw was Erza owning Natsu as he twirls around rolling to a nearby table then furniture breaking said items and then slumped down defeated just in time to hear Erza out, "If I must, then I must. Let's start."
Happy flies over already announcing the end of the fight, "And it's all over!!!"
Like that, the rest of the Fairy Tail members began to laugh at Natsu's misfortune of losing too quickly as Mavis pointed at him confused, "His going to be fine right?"
I merely shrugged at her question looking at the downed Salamander with mild amusement spreading across my face, "Yeah… seems like he's going to be fine."
"Gyahahaha!!! You're the worst showing yet, Natsu!!!"
"Erza is as powerful as ever!!!"
"Hey! Does this count towards the bets we made last time?"
"Nope! The newbie won out saying the fight would get interrupted."
"God damn it!!"
"Ahh! They busted up the place again!"
Seeing the cheerful moods of everyone nearby I used my senses as a certain someone coming over feeling someone strong coming our way with even Mavis pointing it out just by her ghostly body motions and turning around.
Taking the chance, I went towards the request board feeling something happening as I try to stay awake listening to Makarov talking to Mirajane, "Nothing. I'm just… sleepy. It's him."
[Ding!]
[You have been cast upon a Sleep Spell!]
*Whump*
Not long before the notification popped out was when that Mirajane slumped down as did more members of the Guild I try to stay away from this unknown force trying to make me go to sleep as I try my best to resist as I listen to the others not faring well.
"I know this…!"
"Kh…"
"Sleepy…"
*Whud*
*Klank*
*Thud*
Feeling the sensation like the rest I felt like I was going to sleep nighty –
*Shiii*
NO!
Activating my <Courage> I felt a determined sensation passing through fighting through the spell cast on me clear as day to me. The Ethernano surrounding me began to feel or lessen as I kept my <Courage> up to lessen the effects with my mind resisting it in the process.
[Ding!]
[Through feeling the sensation, a mental-based spell, a skill is generated to resist the mental-based attacks!]
[Skill learned <Indominable Spirit>!]
Skill List.
----
<Indominable Spirit> (Passive) Lv.1/100 Exp: 8.0%
Description: My mind, body, and spirit won't fall to the likes of anyone human, demon, dragon, or God to bind me. This skill grants resistance to mental based attacks and suppresses negative emotions.
----
[<Indominable Spirit> LEVEL UP!]
[Skill Sleep has been resisted!]
[<Indominable Spirit> LEVEL UP!]
[Skill Sleep has been resisted!]
[<Indominable Spirit> LEVEL UP!]
The more I see those pop-ups of me being casted Sleep the more my new skill to resist mental-based skills increases by level ups.
Grinning I feel myself being able to stay more and more awake as I began to rub my eyes more clearly talking to the Master having genuine surprise on his face, "So… who's that guy? You know the one casting the Sleep Spell?"
I already know who soon enough as I got a good look at the person as he came to the Request Board as I got a good look on him.
Mystogan or known as Edolas Prince Jellal.
Chapter 36: Sub-Zero Emperor (1)
~Silva POV~
<Observe>.
[Jellal Fernandes Lv.? Fairy Tail Wizard
Description: Mystogan, whose real name is Jellal, is an S-Class Mage of Fairy Tail and the future King of Edolas. He was also considered the most mysterious member of the guild, as he did not show himself, or his face, at all. He is the Edolas counterpart of Jellal Fernandes.]
Being the Edolas counterpart of Jellal Fernandes, Mystogan possesses the same dark eyes, blue hair, and tattoo on the right side of his face. He wears a dark blue cloak and his arms and legs are mostly covered in bandages.
During his time with Fairy Tail, he wore a dark blue bandana with a silver forehead protector and a green mask that obscured the bottom half of his face to hide his identity from his guildmates. The design of his mask appears to change frequently. He usually carries his Magic Staves on his back, which are held by a dark green strap going across his main body.
*Tmp*
*Tmp*
*Wooooo*
*Tmp*
Hearing the steps of him coming closer even the wind somehow inside the building swirls past him as I introduced myself to him, "Sup. The name's Silva Knight and you are…?"
He paused as he looked at me while he has his face hidden, I can sense his surprise underneath his mask but soon returns to replying to me in a neutral tone, "… Mystogan. Would you kindly move so I can get a job?"
Doing so I let the guy have a look as he took one with a Wanted Post request about a Dark Guild as he flips it to Makarov, "I'm going."
Makarov returning to his senses replied back a bit annoyed at Mystogan wanting him to cancel his Sleep Spell, "Hey!! Take off the sleep Magic first!!"
As he walks away trying to act too cool in my option, he also made a countdown as he vanishes like the wind, "5… 4… 3… 2… 1…"
*Whooosh*
With him gone and the rest of the members walking up Mavis nodded with a light smile on her face, "Umu. Looks like my Guild sure has a lot of talented members. Mystogan huh? So… mysterious."
I couldn't help but laugh a bit at Mavis's bad pun to which she smirks as the rest of the guild members started to complain about Mystogan putting the sleep magic on them with the exception of Natsu snoring away.
"Th-this feeling… was it Mystogan?!!"
"That jerk!!!"
"That guy's Sleep Spell hasn't lost any of its power!!!"
"Mystogan?"
That was when the conversation of Mystogan began being a top contender as well as being mysterious with no one except the exception of the Master seeing his face with Mavis mischievously grinning – you better not!
The last thing I need is unwanted attention you old hag!
Before she could do anything, someone beat her to the punch as the voice is from the second-floor building of the guild in a rough voice, "No… I know. Mystogan is shy. So, butt out of what doesn't concern you!!!"
And speak of the devil and the asshole shall appear Laxus Dreyar people.
Laxus is a very tall and muscular young man with orange eyes; his blond hair is slicked back, its numerous spiky strands pointing backward, though some fall down in a small tuft on his forehead. He donned a leopard-print, orange tunic with dark-lined sleeves reaching down below his elbows, and fur on the lower edges.
He sported a bright red cape, tied on the front with a garish knot, which bore a large, lighter Fairy Tail symbol on the back, and loose, baggy dark pants tucked inside light metal greaves. Around his waist was a simple belt to which he attached the device linked to his Magic Headphones. He also had a small chain tied around his right wrist and was initially portrayed smoking large cigars.
<Observe>.
[Laxus Dreyar Lv.? Fairy Tail Wizard
Description: Laxus Dreyar is an S-Class Mage of the Fairy Tail Guild. He is the grandson of Fairy Tail's Guild Master, Makarov Dreyar, and the son of Raven Tail's Master, Ivan Dreyar. He has a team of members calling themselves the Thunder God Tribe. Laxus is arrogant, overbearing, selfish, and prone to make fun of his own comrades.
He believed himself to be the strongest member of Fairy Tail, and looked down on those he considered weak, heavily reprimanding their weakness and even resolving to hurt them whenever they stepped in his path.]
Yeah…
Troubled child alright.
With his voice alone Natsu woke up from his slumber as the masochist that he is challenging Laxus again determined, "Laxus!!! Come fight me right now!!"
Natsu ignoring Warren the Telepathy Magic Caster Laxus mocked the Dragon Slayer and Erza at the same time with a grin plastered on his face, "That's right! If you can't take out somebody as weak as Erza, you sure don't stand a chance with me."
Erza didn't take his comment too kindly as she gets up having an ominous aura about her menacingly, "What does that mean?!!"
Replying to her and everyone present I simply ignored him as his being a boasting arrogant Wuxia character, "It means that I'm the best! I'm not going to give up that status as the strongest in Fairy Tail to anyone! Not Erza! Not Mystogan! Not even that old man! I am the greatest!!"
Natsu tries to go and challenge him only to be curbed stomp by Makarov telling him he isn't ready for an S-Class quest as Laxus laughs his ass off making me roll my eyes already annoyed by the guy and I just met him.
No need to confront that asshole as he is now.
With that done with I began to head towards Makarov as he looked at me asking me any concerns, "Tell me son what seems to be the problem? You seem to want to ask something?"
At this, I decided to ask what I wanted to know first asking Makarov in a curious tone about a few things, "A few things Guild Master. First I was wondering if you know any places that sell any Alchemy books for one?"
He raised an eyebrow at that since I do remember him knowing about Alchemy in the 100 Year Quest sequel close enough with Curse Power being non-magical means of combat.
I'm hoping to hone my own skills having some skills that are Alchemy based without having to rely on my MP when I have to head to Edolas one day against an army.
I'm not sure how it would affect me but it seems like everyone who enters that dimension would have their Magic instantly depleted and sealed for a duration of time indefinitely till they regain them by medicine.
I would rather have a skill at hand that I wouldn't need to use my Magic-based one just in case since I heavily rely on them.
Although I have some non-magical skills like Sword Mastery it's best to have myself be a variety of all but master to none in case situations are called upon me needing them would rise.
Listening to my request Makarov has an expression of interest as did Mavis mumbling to himself before finally responding, "Alchemy huh? Hmm… there aren't many Alchemy Guilds in Magnolia Town here Silva. Or for that much in Fiore as much I'm afraid. But you could probably try your luck at Crocus since they have just about one guild of any type in the Capital City. Maybe even an Alchemy Guild there perhaps they should shed some light for you."
I smiled at this but then came the next one as his expression changed to stern when I finished speaking, "Thanks. But I have another you wouldn't happen to know the location of Galuna Island wouldn't you?"
Not only did the Guild Master stiff as did Mirajane and Erza did so with Makarov had tension in his voice as he replied to me, "Hmm… Can I ask why you wish to go to that Island young man…?"
I already have an answer to this.
I merely acted confused as I replied to Master Makarov about the purpose of going there seemingly reliving his tension from earlier, "Simple. I'm in need of some Moon Drip actually. I happen to need it for me to Enchant a Weapon that's able to bypass Magic. I heard you could get it on Galuna Island, but I have no clue where to locate it. I was wondering if you knew is all Master."
He sighs at this since I already foresee something like this occurring as I sense Mirajane and Erza both cooled down once I gave Makarov my explanation to him.
And it wasn't a lie either since I'm curious about it to make an Enchanted Weapon out of it having a weapon that has <Dispel> on it to dispel any Magic coming my way.
Shame the same can't be said about Ricochet since it reflects both Magic and Physical attacks but in random directions.
Which is why I don't use it in a majority of fights since the direction it comes to repel is random at best.
But in the end, though the Master warned me I shouldn't go in under circumstance withholding the information saying the place was cursed and out of my league. He suggested that I should just wait till someone completed it much to my frustration a bit, but I agreed nonetheless to his words.
I mean I have Rongo Rongo to look it up in my own time. But that's for another time when I'm more properly prepared.
In the end, though Mavis stayed around the Guild a bit more to see how things were going as I decided to look around the Guild Library for the time being to look around some more spells for me to use or different fighting styles.
Could go for the spear route. I mean the Erza from Edolas has a nice spear that won't be useable in the near future…
It would be a crime not to use it at its best. To which I do need to upgrade on offensive Magic by the way. At least till I smiled hearing that oh-so-good calling of the screen telling me my mission this time.

I could only give this quest with extreme caution as I accepted it trying my best to complete it without much issue.

Guess the only way to find out is to try.
