Taking a carriage ride to Shirotsume Town I was enjoying the company I was having with my little ghost friend, but I couldn't help but ask Mavis about her insistence on following me, "Not to be rude but any particular reason why you're tailing on me during my first mission?"
She gives me a smug look having both her arms at her waist with the dress flying as I wait for her input as her dress moves to her legs kicking in the air responding proudly, "Simple. You're too interesting to see this out. My form of joy and entertainment you see, but also a great concern for you as one of my guild members! Genius, right?"
Genius is a strong word… more like freeloader would be appropriate though.
Then again if I were trapped with no form of entertainment I would probably bug or befriend the living shit the thing/person giving me amusement in my living hell.
Sighing at this I merely smiled as I took the chance to relax having a flying ghost girl as company with me. Not a bad way to have someone watching out for me.
Quite literally I might add.
Still, Mavis here does certainly bring more life into this trip than the boring patience and waiting around. That much is certain around these parts.

Listening to the sounds of the carriage taking me to my destinated location Mavis tries to talk to me more with a grin on her face about my technical first quest, "You seem to have a simple job request, Silva. All you need to do is simply infiltrate the mansion and carry off the book correct?"
Giving a curt nod I followed it up with a reply in a serious tone holding my recording Lacrima I bought from the Magic Store, "Yup. But I'm keeping a Recording Lacrima on hand in case I miss something I overlook when heading to Everlue Mansion."
She hums at me before raising an eyebrow or even bringing that item along with me, to begin with, "Hmm… how curious? Were you simply on a simple retrieval mission and yet out of all the items you bring a recording Lacrima? Is there something more than meets the eye mister know it all?"
I couldn't help but be playful with the ghost as I raised my finger near my lips muttering, "It's~ A~ Sec~ ret~"
She merely pouts at me since I need evidence on Everlue to bring him down for good since he confessed mentally to having back dealing along with other nefarious dealings he made during his time in power.
And I plan to take that away when I see any books he has that are worth it considering his a Magic Caster thus it's safe to assume he has some Magic Spell or rather Skill Books lying around for me to investigate and take as I please.
Unfortunately, though as much as I would like the idea, I'm afraid the Magic Council or Rune Knights will ask or search for the missing books so might be best not to take any just to be cautious and not do anything stupid.
Plus, I have a secret weapon that's my Ricochet to deal with Brothers reflecting physical and magical attacks.
As for Virgo, she's surprisingly the least threatening person I should consider. Remembering a bit from the show or manga the Celestial Spirit is only as strong as the amount of Magic Power needed it is to fuel them.
And Everlue lost to Lucy so I feel good about my odds.
If not, then simply using Ricochet along with a <Mana Burst> should get the job at a vital part of their body. Aim for that then they vanish as they can't sustain anymore, vital parts to be damaged for long.
Till then I should enjoy the ride and talk a bit more to the dissatisfied pouting ghost for some attention.
I mean she was a famous mind for her battle tactics I could learn a thing or two from her in the process.
/////
Getting out of the carriage we finally arrived at Shirotsume Town as Mavis shouts out, "Finally!"
She's certainly a ghost full of energy ain't she?
<Observe>.
[<Observe> LEVEL UP!]
[Shirotsume Town
Description: Shirotsume Town is the town where Everlue and Kaby Melon reside in. Shirotsume is a small town located in a mountainous area. It has a feudalistic government, and Everlue had complete and total control over the town.]
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Checking out the town though it certainly seems small with the stone homes and wooden ones but the most eye-catching is the Mansion at the end of the town nearing the mountains.
Stretching my arms and placing my Rune Sword on my back I talked to Mavis getting her attention as she follows behind, "Alright! Better get this job done lickity split. Best to head to the client to discuss more about the job."
Finishing my stretches Mavis follows suit as we go ahead to the place to which it evidently took us to another mansion listening to Mavis comment, "That's a pretty impressive mansion. I see… if he's willing to pay 200,000J for one book with this place it's safe to assume his rich."
Nope.
Knocking on the door I heard the sound of someone as they speak up, "Who might you be?"
I replied in a calm tone to the person at the other end of this home, "I'm from the Fairy Tail Wizard Guild –"
"Shh!!! Keep your voice down!!"
Till I got suddenly interrupted by the noise of a man with Mavis tilting her head confused as I then hear the man's voice again, "Forgive my rudeness, but could you enter via backdoor?"
I agreed as I did so with Mavis already phasing through the building probably curious as I did as I was told and entered via the backdoor.
Opening the door and greeting me inside was a relatively tall and aged man with peach skin, gray hair, and a distinctive, small mustache, which is of a darker gray than his hair. He always keeps his eyes closed and wears a tattered green suit with a red tie.
<Observe>.
[Kaby Melon Lv.7
Description: Kaby is a kind man who, despite appearances, actually cared a lot for his father, not wanting him to risk his own pride and dignity as a writer for the likes of Everlue, despite how much it paid.
Additionally, as time went by, Kaby began feeling guilty for treating his father harshly and shows a lot of devotion to him, as he is willing to pay Wizards 2,000,000J just to have his father's book destroyed and Kaby's own name cleaned, despite the fact that he is extremely poor.]
As we enter inside via the backdoor Kaby motioned me to follow him as he introduces his wife while we get to a place to sit down and discuss, "Please forgive the inconvenience. I requested this mission. I'm Kaby Melon and this is my wife."
Nodding I sat down as Mavis finally appeared floating next to my side curious as we waited for Kaby to butter me or genuinely complement me, "I never imagined a wizard from the famed Fairy Tail guild would take up my offer."
Smiling at this I commented with a smile to Kaby of such a job on the request board, "True. But then again though I'm surprised that such a good job was left on the board for so long."
Kaby nods as he gestures to my young age assuming I'm skilled as he gets serious about the job he offered, "You're so young. No doubt you'll become famous in your own right. Now, then we talk about the job?"
Grinning I agreed with Mavis seemingly excited being on the sidelines seeing the action of how my quest works out, "Of course. Explain away mister Kaby."
He nods as he began to explain to me what he wanted about this request Mavis gets confused about the sudden change, "I am only requesting one thing. To obtain the one-of-a-kind book that is in Duke Everlue's possession – Day Break and to burn or otherwise destroy it."
Mavis makes a comment about the sudden change intrigued, "He doesn't want it stolen but instead destroy?"
Questioning about it Kaby tilts his head down as he explains to me the reasoning with a smile on his face present, "I suppose, in reality, obtaining someone's else property without compensation and destroying it… is the very same as stealing it, but…"
Before he could continue, I lean back if there was any other before me that tried to take the Day Break book, "I understand. In that case, anyone would've completed it but can I ask if there were any others that took this request of yours? Or has Everlue increased his guard from previous attempts?"
He looked a bit surprised as did Mavis as she hums with Kaby's wife nodding confirming my suspicions, "Yes. It's only fair that you know as you are taking this job. We've already had a team from a different guild fail this mission once. Even if it was just an attempt, from his perspective thieves broke into his mansion. It's only natural to assume that he'd increase his guard."
I nodded at this in understanding as Mavis comments about the request being more than it meets the eye now, "I see… it seems like your first mission is going to be quite the doozy isn't Knight?"
That was when I nodded agreeing to the job as I get up smiling at Kaby accepting the job, "Very well Kaby. I'll accept the job. I'll see what I can do."
Standing up I began to leave the group as Mavis floats by as she questions me of what I intend to do curiously, "Interesting. What's your plan for infiltrating Duke Everlue's Mansion? He must have increased or hired bodyguards. Any idea Knight?"
Simple enough I gestured towards my Rune Sword and Ricochet with a grin on my face along with my Magic, "Simple. Brute force my way out if I get caught. Get the book, destroy the book, and eat cake."
She looked confused at me at the last step but I didn't care. It was all a part of the plan.
All is going according to the cake.
And with my Magic Tools and my Ricochet natural ability to counter physical and magical attacks, I'm more than prepared now.
Plus having <Mana Burst> and Shambhala at the ready in case things get ugly the best thing to do is prepare for any variables as well as act accordingly.
I mean I can literally send Virgo or the Vanish Brothers away ending the fight. But only if it comes to that I should consider the idea.
But first I need info before making good on my word.
Chapter 23: Day Break (3)
~Silva POV~
Since I accepted the job, I decided to wait till it was nighttime to go ahead and begin my attempt at infiltrating the Mansion instead of going during the day as I took a closer look at his mansion.
Everlue Mansion is a large residence owned by Everlue. Everlue Mansion is located in Shirotsume Town, seemingly residing a bit out of the small city's built-up area.
Surrounding the palace is a series of slender trees sitting casually on the grass, while behind it a small lake and a massive rocky formation are visible.
The only time I took any action during the day I began to maneuver around his mansion looking around carefully finding any Surveillance Lacrima using my <Observe> skill to find them and make mental notes of where they are located at.
I did it all in the guise of doing my exercise of daily quest getting another bonus +3 Stats carefully examining the manor down to the littlest details with Mavis investigating inside because of her unique nature.
It's times like these it's great to have an undetectable ghost like Mavis helping me out of her own concern for me.
Maybe my LUCK stats are helping me out just by meeting her first at times or unlucky I got caught…
Whatever the case maybe I took careful notes of the exterior of the building as I examines them carefully finding any Surveillance Lacrimas for me to spot.
Everlue Mansion is a large and compact building constructed under a rigorous symmetry: it seems to consist of a central section, counting at least three floors, topped by a pitched tiled roof, with three protruding structures, possessing similar roofs, sprouting from both its sides on the top balcony, delimited by railings, which is formed on top of the two identical wings flanking the main structure.
The two sections of such a large balcony are connected by a linking bridge sitting on the back of the main section's roof, and each sports a pair of towers with pointed tiled roofs, placed in correspondence to its outer edges, for a total of four towers.
The building's walls are all crowded with elongated windows, which are rectangular on the wings and on the towers, but sport arched tops in the central part; the wings also sport smaller, square windows on the ground floor's walls. The entrance is located on the facade, in the central part, under eight windows split over two floors, which are topped by the pyramid-shaped section created by the pitched roof, intricately decorated.
The whole building is surrounded by a square fence, composed of cement topped by a metal railing, and is given access to by an imposing, square gate located on the front, connected to the fence at its sides by stone hinges topped by ornamental spheres, which is intricately decorated, sporting reinforced bolted sections which, when the gate is closed, form an 'X', and a curious pattern reminiscent of snakeskin.
The fence encloses a small lawn, and outside it is surrounded by a square stone road, connected on the front to the large pathway leading to the main entrance, and with its edges adorned by tidy round bushes.
Using Mastema I fly around to the ceiling during the night as I began to check my Status and place my stat points into what I would need them to be.
Placing them to where I would need them the most in the incoming mission ahead, I would need some STR for this along with AGI, but a hint of LUCK is needed for this to work. Maybe other stats would be an important investment too.
After debating which ones I would need I decided to go with this route for my stats. Oh, right I should change my title for my other one while I'm at it.
Status.

Adding them the reason I placed some stats on those 4 is mostly because I should have better odds in a prolonged fight and if the need arises then I have my Status Recovery at the ready to instantly recover.
Having time, I made sure to be prepared for any possibilities since I'm against some serious foes this time that could provide me the right means to get stronger with difficulty.
/////
"Hoot!"
"Hooo…!"
Landing on top of the roof I saw Mavis come out as I landed as she gives me a report, "Mavis the spy reporting to duty!"
Rolling my eyes I couldn't help but smirk as I talked to Mavis about her report during the day, she searched the interior of the mansion, "Alright then spy Vermillion what can I expect inside the Mansion?"
She began to explain to me through the window that there are plenty of Surveillance Lacrima inside thanking her for looking, "Thanks for helping me out Mavis. You know you didn't have to help me you know?"
She merely puffs her cheeks as she has a pouting expression on her face at me seemingly offending her, "I know! But at the very least you could be a bit more appreciative for the help you know."
Nodding at this I thanked her for the help as I get close to the window door entrance, "Your right. You have my thanks for helping me out. Thank you."
She seemed to smile with a nod accepting my apology. Before doing anything, I took a peek through the window using <Observe> skill to look through finding a few items like a small, cartoonish skull is one of the objects stored here.
Where is it?
Looking more intently my eyes landed on the Surveillance Lacrima crystal adorned by what looks like a small wolf's pelt causing me to smirk, "Perfect. Now to move it slightly…"
*Woosh*
*Shiii*
I stealthily hid myself with the wolf's cloth to cover myself up as Mavis smiles at my approach at this, "At least you seem to be cautious good. There are more lying inside but not enough to dissuade you from taking the Day Break book."
I gave a curt nod agreeing as I use one of my Mastema feathers to cut the lift of the latch entering inside the window door to what looks like a storage room present right below the main structure's roof, possessing a coffered ceiling, and packed full of crates, barrels, and sacks, with two shelves sitting against two opposite walls.
With the Surveillance Lacrima covered using a nearby cloth I began to look around the room carefully seeing all assortments lying around wondering what a creep like Everlue would want with these items like the cartoon skull.
Taking out my Video Lacrima I began to play the recording button using my Magic and tying it around my neck as Mavis looks at me curiously as I didn't explain to her my goal to expose Everlue while I read the info of my target using <Observe>.
But it's also to give me cause to defend as I recall he did kill a wizard from a different guild in the main canon adding the fact I report this to the Guild or Rune Knights he won't have much to run after this.
Although I explained to Mavis my <Observe> skill I can easily get a lot of information needed from a target as well as use my skill to search for any illegal documents under the hand deals Everlue has on hand.
He confirmed that much in the canon story.
Moving along I soon find myself exiting the room I was into the main hall sports a mezzanine which give several doors, sporting railings on its edges and supporting square pillars which intersect them and reach up to the ceiling.
The walls, on the lower part, sport intricate decorations, and the floor, partially covered by a large, furry carpet, consists of massive square tiles – wait what's that sound?
Pausing a bit I listened more carefully as did Mavis we both paused listening to the sounds of foot steps...
Oh god!!
It's the ugly bitches!!!
*Gm*
*Gm*
*Gm*
*Gm*
*Gluk*
*Kabong*
Stepping back quickly I soon see four ugly maids along with the current appearance of Virgo as she wears a typical maid outfit, consisting of a black undercoat and a white, frilled-trim apron, and white knee-length socks with black Mary Jane shoes. Whilst she was with Everlue, she was of extremely tall stature and overweight with a brutish face and two ponytails.
Oh god...
I...
I think I'm going to be sick...
In the anime or manga, it was dumb but realistically with others just why...
Mavis recollided trying to gouge out her eyes seeing the horror first hand, "The horror! The horror!! Can't gouge them out fast enough!!"
What in God, name did their parents fucked to get such grotesque-looking girls like them.
I mean in the anime and manga they all had ugly expressions but in reality…
Why God?
Just why do you create the things you do?!!!
Why do they exist to plague my eyes?!!
Virgo soon took command as I already activated my Skill to deal with this issue taking a moment of <Breathing> increasing my physical stats as she continues, "We've found the intruders!!! They will be –"
Immediately on instinct, I used my <Mana Burst> to ultimately blast them upwards flying off like a certain team rocket trio yelling in pure disgust seeing them in real life scaring me for days to come, "BEGONE UGLY THOUGHTS OF HELLSPAWNS!!!! BE GONE!!!!"
*WOOOSH*
"AYEEEEEEE!!!!"
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF MASTERRRRR!!!!!"
Sending them up flying all of them away using the shockwave force of my <Mana Burst> I couldn't help but snap back to reality recoiling of what exactly I just did as I slowly turn to Mavis witnessing the scene, "I just didn't yell, at the top of my lungs from the pure shock seeing ugly woman after me giving away my position didn't I? Or was it a figment of my imagination..."
Mavis soon recovers as she slowly replies pointing the direction to where the library is located as she follows closely to me, "I… okay to be honest with you I would've done the same exact thing you did with those girls. They'll be fine… probably. But let's worry about that and get the book to leave."
Right.
I think I just may have overdone it a bit as I couldn't help but question their safety thinking of going overboard there, "Do you think they are fine? I mean I did overreact a bit much with I just did…"
At this Mavis waves off my concerns saying they would be fine because of the Magic they used giving me reassurance, "Nah. They're fine considering they use Diver Magic. Once they land on the ground it's like swimming just… it's going to be a very deep dive."
Oh, okay…
Now I feel at least a bit better about my actions hopefully…
Regardless though after all the effort I did to play this smart, I got my attention regardless because of what I saw in front of me overreacting.
Note to self-train on my emotions better is a requirement.
Don't need to repeat that mess again but returning to the matter at hand it seems like I'll have to play this carefully now.
