Chapter 10: The Grind (2)
~Silva POV~
Squandering around I finally found the time researching Magic Power the one to show force by using the pressure of it into reality so to speak. Searching through the Fairy Tail library I found the book containing the introductions for it.
Magic is the physical embodiment of the spirit. When the physical spirit of an organism connects with the spiritual flow of nature, the spirit forms Magic as a product of the connection.
Though Magic goes beyond reason, it is still born of reason and takes enormous concentration and mental ability to use it. One's Magical Powers are also tied to one's life force. Only ten percent of the world's population is able to use Magic, which is noted to keep a balance between ordinary people and those with Magic.
According to famous Mages at the time, one's strength of feelings plays an important part in one's ability to properly use Magic.
To utilize Magic, a Mage must use the Magic Power in their body, which is composed of Ethernano, the source of Magic Power for all Mages. Every Mage has a container of Ethernano inside their body that determines the limits of their Magic Power.
In the case that it becomes empty, Ethernano will come from the atmosphere and enter the Mage's body and, after a while, their Magic Power shall return to normal.
To which I can see why the Magic Power or skills from this world differs or rather is incompatible with me. It's simply because the idea was made in mind that this is only for people with containers of their origins.
But in my case, I don't have one but allow my own Gate to filter the Mana or in this case Ethernano in the air into my soul and bodily system through whatever entry into my body adapting to the changes happening within me.
It would explain as to why whenever I try to use Mana, I feel like my nerves is on fire each time I try to channel my new Magic Power as it feels like I'm burning up or heating up from within my Gate.
This makes in some ways sense from the books I read that one can also train their own Nervous System and Wisdom for Magic, where the former becomes a vessel for Magic Power, a way to increase it.
Though this would leave some Mages to neglect their physical training, being vulnerable to those with superior physical abilities, apart from certain exceptions of others.
As Magic is tied to a being's life force, complete or at least near deprivation of one's Magic can be detrimental to the Mage's health unless medical actions are performed. Likewise, too much Magic Power can also be dangerous in an underdeveloped body.
Hmm…
This passage could also be interpreted for me the other way. With no magic for me suddenly introduced into my system trying to adapt to my new power of Mana in my developed body is more akin to poisoning myself doing so.
Furthermore, exposure to highly concentrated levels of Magic energy can also be toxic to any living creature which could be the case with me as well. Although there's no concrete proof it's something to consider carefully.
*THUD*
Closing the books of Magical Theories and Fundamentals of Magic I could only sigh pinching the bridge of my nose at the information, "Sigh… there's too many unknown variables to consider learning or obtaining magic. Perhaps I should find myself using Holder Magic Items for a time till I can find a way, to obtain Magic for myself."
I shouldn't go overboard losing hope yet at learning Magic. At the very least till I have some skills under my belt before I try although maybe I should go for an easy job…

*Fwp*
Flipping over the books I went over the history of combats section that the guild has for anything related to melee combat.
Melee combat is a fighting style that, as the name itself suggests, revolves around close-range confrontation, with users assaulting opponents physically.
Widespread around Fiore, this form of combat can be employed by normal people and Mages alike.
While the latter ones were described as lacking the ability to fight at close range due to their time being devoted to studying Magic, some Mages are in fact shown to be fearsome melee fighters, even specializing in such form of combat.
Magic itself can be a valuable asset when engaging foes in close quarters, with many forms of Magic being focused around, melee combat.
But currently as I can't use Magic for the time being the next best step is look up armed combat that suits me.
Armed combat is the one I was looking for the most. Armed combat, as the name itself suggests, revolves around the usage of weapons, which users employ against their opponents at close range.
A variety of melee tools is commonly utilized throughout Fiore, with swords, coming in different shapes and sizes among which are longswords, katanas, sabers, and rapiers, being the most common ones, and with other weapons being daggers, spears, staves, axes, whips, scythes, guan dao, war hammers and kanabo.
Due to swords being the most popular weapons, Swordsmanship is a known discipline, with swordsmen found throughout the Kingdom possessing various levels of mastery. Most forms of swordplay, similar to most forms of unarmed combat, aren't properly classified as specific fighting styles.
Searching around for a few sword styles around the guild I found a few to my liking that I would need to perfect in my own time preparing my growth ahead of me.
Mugetsu-Style and Style of the Undrawn Long Sword.
Those two on mainly physical attacks I can use and perfect over time as grabbed hold of them seeing pop-ups making me smirk seeing it appear.
[Ding!]
[You obtained the skill book 'Mugetsu-Style.' Would you like to learn this skill?]
[Ding!]
[You obtained the skill book 'Style of the Undrawn Long Sword.' Would you like to learn this skill?]
Clicking on yes for both of them they break down into light particles entering my body as I immediately feel the principle behind them like a beginner.
Along with that came new notifications along with new skills obtained from taking the two skill books gaining new skills in the process.
[Ding!]
[You have unlocked the passive skill <Mugetsu-Style>!]
[Ding!]
[You have unlocked the passive skill <Style of the Undrawn Long Sword>!]
[Ding!]
[You have unlocked the Mastery skill <Sword Mastery>!]
I could only smirk reading the pop-ups getting these sword styles while only passive could be incredibly deadly once I have gotten them into master-level feats.
I may not have magic to start with, but I'll compensate for it with skills instead. There's more than one way to become strong.
Skill List.
----
<Mugetsu-Style> (Passive) Lv. 1/100 Exp: 0.0%
Description: A sword art that specializes in very quick slashes using a Magic Sword, as well as delivering precise strikes such as cutting and throwing cards down the middle. The precision is perfect enough to slice a body's inner nerves without damaging the clothes or flesh.
Attacks from this style are strong enough to cut through virtually anything, even spatial divides between pocket dimensions as well as deflect powerful shockwaves. The user's sword is also capable of generating fire and causing a massive explosion.
-Passively increases the SEN by 1%
-Increase Sword speed by 1%
<Style of the Undrawn Long Sword> (Passive) Lv. 1/100 Exp: 0.0%
Description: A style of swordsmanship involving the use of a sheathed blade. While technically not exposing the weapon's blade, users of this style have been shown capable of slicing foes as if they were wielding an unsheathed sword.
The stances assumed in the performance of this form are vaguely reminiscent of those typical to Iaido, where the swordsmen wield the sheath of their sword with one hand, and rest the other on the hilt.
-Increase Sword damage by 1%
-Passively increases AGI by 1%
<Sword Mastery> (Passive) Lv.1/100 Exp: 7.0%
Description: The skill of the blade and the ability to Cut things through all that stand before them. Can you master the path of a true swordsman?
-Increase Sword Damage by 1%
-Increase Sword speed by 1%
----
I couldn't help but grin at these skills I'm getting these skills would be beneficial in the long run of things.
But still, this is a start I need to start focusing on creating them. Another thing I should focus on controlling my Mana as soon as possible unless I want to be left out.
Now the only thing left to do now is start grinding right away but then again issue with money comes back to me since I'm in need of funds to support myself and the only way how is to earn it.
Hmm…
/////
After contemplating for a while, I deiced to actually train to gain some skills instead before going off doing a quest.
Hence the reason I'm in the outside forest area is to train my Mana Manipulation and to avoid any serious damage against anyone around here as well as train some sword skills in the process.
Now then…
Taking control of the Mana around me and inside my body I began to channel it through my nervous system steadily as I felt the heat coming from them as I grit my teeth feeling the pain, but it was less intense than before.
Guessing the theory of training one's own nervous system as the Magic Theories also provided the means to give out explanations that are within reason. One of them suggests that surrounding yourself with a highly dense concentration of Ethernano helps the nervous system build up a kind of resistance to it and adapt.
Of course, there were multiple unknown factors at play like having Mages on standby to make it possible but for me though I merely tried to make some guesswork about it. Simply just do it and let my abilities do the work.
And with my abilities as [THE GAMER], it would allow me to increase that potential to the max possibly reaching a point where I can best anyone… except for that Dragon Acnologia maybe considering that thing absorbed being in a crack in between time and space.
Taking time to focus I motion towards my Mana circulating through my body feeling my Nerves heating up from every part of my body as I involuntary close one of my eyes as the other is having a hard time staying open from the heat of Mana passing through my body.
Bloody hell this fucking hurts and sucks!!
Now I see why I couldn't simply use Magic right away…
My control over my own Mana is shit.
I kept on pressure though because I began to focus my Mana surrounding me as I began to put the idea of coating myself around my body to increase my body endurance, speed, strength, and much more.
*Shiii*
A shiny light blue color began to appear through my arms like circuits passing through my body but –
*Poof*
Exhaling through my mouth and stopping my focus from having my whole nerves tired or fried I stopped myself as I spoke out again, "Fuck… I feel like I was boiling alive. But for just a second I felt the increase. I need to continue."
I could only narrow my eyes trying again to feel my Mana as I circulated it again my body after a brief time to rest providing benefits in the process of doing everything I can to try to create this skill into reality.
I kept on focusing until I see the skill pop up and I'm not returning back until I managed to do just that. Doing everything in my power to surpass everyone the best I knew how no matter what the end lies for me.
Taking this time, I began to practice my breathing at the same time doing these both for a few more hours till I get to see the skills I get from them in the process.
Just keep on the grind.
Chapter 11: The Grind (3)
~Silva POV~
*Shiii*
"Huff…"
*Shiii*
*Shing*
[Ding!]
[Due to enhancing your body using your Gate to channel the Mana coursing through your body you have gained a skill!]
[Skill: <Mana Reinforcement> have been learned!]
[<Mana Reinforcement> LEVEL UP!]
[<Mana Reinforcement> LEVEL UP!]
Not before long after doing it for the last few hours I finally saw the notification pop up earning me to grin happily before the news, "Hahaha… about fucking time. And here I thought I was screwed later in the day. Thank God…"
After this, I began to repeat the same process trying to be faster each and every time. I want it to be strong for me to use as well as enhance myself in the process.
But I do need to practice more to make it a skill. As the saying goes practice makes perfect.
Smirking at this I immediately checked my Skill List to see the proper descriptions of my new skill <Mana Reinforcement> and read carefully about what I can do with them as I feel my cells and nerves around me providing me the buff.
Skill List.
----
<Mana Reinforcement> Lv. 2/100 Exp: 12.3%
MP Cost: 50 MP
Duration: 10 Min.
Description: Users can utilize Mana that are based on and/or take control of reinforcement, allowing them to perform magical feats such as hardening one's body and the environment around them, giving them an extra layer of defense.
-This skill boosts STR, VIT, INT, SEN, and AGI by 10%.
-Every 10 levels the duration increases by 5 Min.
-Every 10 levels increase boost by 5%
----
Good.
Now I have something to work with here on the combat side of things for the time being although I could do better. I'm so going to enjoy this skill so much but that's not without its downside.
I have to be cautious with every move I make but regardless though this is great progress being made.
Seeing the level-ups, I then stopped myself feeling a sense of accomplishment grinning as I then moved my hands feeling my new <Mana Reinforcement> keeping them in place along with my own sensation of Mana burning within me.
At the very least it's not as burning hot as it was before.
Smirking at this I immediately checked my Skill List descriptions I was very glad to get this skill early on to provide the protection I need. Now I have something to work with here stopping in my tracks although a thought occurred…
I could do better.
But I dismiss that arrogant persona right away because I don't know nor am I smart enough to think that idea.
Right now, I merely need to continue my training creating new skills as I go further along practicing or trying different ideas of how to do it. Currently, I need more skills than my <Mana Reinforcement> could provide against future enemies.
Although the boost of 10% to my Stats is a nice buff to have in battle, I have to be wary about how much MP I use in fights. This setback of not being able to use Magic right away is bad, but it won't deter me from trying to become the strongest.
For now, all I could do is struggle to get stronger but sooner or later I'll reach my way into the top from the bottom for now I need to keep training…
To keep grinding with all I have before the big threats start coming then put my all into the grind.
However, noticing my body exhaustion I knew I couldn't ignore it any longer. I needed to take a break or else I would instead suffer losses instead of gains.
Hopefully, some meditation will help my body give time to recover than rushing to peak conditions. One must have patience as all good things will come with time.
/////
Meditating for a while I tried to raise my skills in the process of training my breathing and manipulating the control of my Mana in the process.
The focus and power were something else feeling the new power as the more I manipulate the Mana around me the more I feel less of the heat from before when I first tried it out manipulating a foreign force.
[<Mana Manipulation> LEVEL UP!]
Nothing I ever really felt before as if a child playing with a new toy, they discovered wanting to test out the limits and play some more.
That's the feeling I get when I play around with Mana as I try to get a handle on things. But like all things I need to focus more on what I can do.
What I need to improve on since I can't have myself be lacking. Breathing in and out I began to relax my body, "Whew…"
Opening my eyes, I tried to release the mana within me releasing outside trying to have better control of mana.
The blue color particles are flying around the forest existing outside my body having to expel it from my body. But to my surprise, I managed to see a pop-up screen revealing the information provided.
I could only grin seeing the skills I try to learn thanks to having some prior idea of how to incorporate them from the Fairy Tail library.
[Ding!]
[Due to expelling mana from your body a skill has been generated to expel mana!]
[Skill: <Expel Mana> has been learned!]
Smirking at this I immediately checked on my Skill List to see what this skill can do for me.
Skill List.
----
<Expel Mana> (Active) Lv.1/100 Exp: 0.4%
MP Cost: Any/Min.
Description: A training exercise used by Mages/Wizards that allows them to expel Mana into the air to know how much Mana is needed to activate their Magic Power to activate their spells or Holder Magic Tools.
-Every level of 25, 50, 75, and 99 reduces MP Costs by 5% each.
---
Smirking at this I couldn't help but sigh out a breath of tiredness from expelling my mana as I commented on it, "Whew… just releasing my Mana through me just made me feel tired? Is it because it's similar to one's own life force?"
I felt physically exhausted from expelling mana from my body and drained doing so but not before seeing some Level Ups doing so in the process.
[<Expel Mana> LEVEL UP!]
[<Expel Mana> LEVEL UP!]
[<Expel Mana> LEVEL UP!]
Leaning my arms down feeling sweat drenched my body from practicing not only my Mana but also how to manipulate it through my body are new sensations and body parts I need to adjust properly before starting a fight.
But regardless though the more I train on <Expel Mana> the more I feel like I have control over my Mana. It's really an unbelievable explanation to truly explain but felt right when doing it over and over for a few times.
Calming my nerves and resting my body I need to grind up some skills for me to obtain and get stronger in the process.
Using <Mana Manipulation> I tried to less of a better term sense the magic within the area for me to better understand.
"Whew…"
Releasing a breath of air I began to try and focus sensing the magic in the area to have a better understanding –
!!!
*WOOSH*
*BAM*
Getting my Rune Sword from my side out in the open pointing towards a Magical Beast that is in the shape of a wolf glaring at me while I returned one of my own, I suddenly felt someone going to attack me.
*Shiii*
<Mana Reinforcement>.
Activating my skill at the ready feeling my heartbeat faster I tried to sense a tingling sensation that alerted me when I tried to sense someone. A feeling I never knew before till danger presented itself as I began to sense someone wanting to harm me.
"Grr…"
The wolf in question was quite honestly large for its size but I can tell the intent to get me while I had my guard down as it paces around me ever slowly while I did the same panting tired from training.
[Ding!]
[Due to your sensing magic a skill has been generated to sense magic.]
[Skill: <Magic Sense> has been learned!]
[<Magic Sense> LEVEL UP!]
[<Magic Sense> LEVEL UP!]
Sensing the magic power now from the wolf trying to eat me up and growling at me I used <Observe> to see any info relating to it.
[Wolf Lv.10 – Scout]
It's a scout?
Better get out of here then but not before taking this hound down. Holding up my Rune Sword getting better adjusted in a stance the wolf soon lunged at me bearing it's teeth.
"Roooar!!!"
*Cling*
Shit!
Stumbling back the wolf bite down on the sword with it holding its guard as the force of the wolf tackled me down but I made sure to hold my own keeping it from biting me as I growl slowly holding it back.
Checking my status my HP bar took a hit but not enough for concern getting back up I'm not going to allow this mutt wanting me for a new chew toy!
Thinking quickly I thought I began to push back the wolf gritting my teeth and feeling the exhaustion taking over but my will to live stronger not wanting to die right away of this thing.
Gripping my blade tightly as I focused my Mana around, my blade building up feeling the burning sensation again with blue light showing around my blade storing Mana and in that moment it burst open.
*BOOM*
*THUD*
Fuck!!
Feeling the recoil of the sudden burst of mana I saw notifications of the skill being activated as I saw it pop up explaining what I did making me smile.
[Ding!]
[Due to your Mana stored in your weapon a skill has been generated to store Mana.]
[Skill: <Cage> has been learned!]
[Ding!]
[Due to your Mana bursting a skill has been generated to infuse Mana and expel it open.]
[Skill: <Mana Burst> has been learned!]
Getting my bearings together again I glared hatefully at the wolf as Mastema activated hissing at the wolf, "Damn mutt… really picked a bad day to test your luck on me."
*Fwp*
*Pew*
*Fwp*
*Pew*
*Splat*
"Arghhh…!"
The wolf moaned in pain as I pierced through its body with holes of blood releasing from the wounds in the body. It moaned in pain before falling down and dying in a pool of its own blood leaking out.
Not letting my guard down, especially after allowing myself to get ambushed like that I kept my Teigu Mastema out in the open if need be to run away or aim for the head.
Fortunately, though it seems like my worry is not needed as I see the pop-ups of me winning signaling that I earned my EXP and reward along with killing the wolf.
[You gain 10 EXP!]
[You gained the item sharp teeth!]
Picking up the teeth in question I couldn't help but murmur about holding an actual item drop from the wolf, "Hmm… Didn't think I would get an item. This should sell right? Nothing wrong with that selling to people who would want it."
Panting tired and finally realizing that I actually created something with Mana I couldn't help but feel disgusted seeing the wolf corpse with the smell lingering on its body.
Yup.
That's my cue to leave this place.
With that I decided to take my leave not wanting any more ambushes on me for the remaining part of the day.
Now what I need is a good long bath…
