Two days later, everyone living inside the base knew that it was Christmas Eve today but no one was excited about it however, everyone was quite hopeful knowing that the calamity would end tomorrow and might even have the time to celebrate Christmas despite the challenges that they have been through.
Right now, every man inside the base could be found working nonstop as they started building houses again for the newly recruited survivors. Despite the sandstorm still ongoing, it didn't stop them as they needed to finish it before the next calamity happened as per Zach's order.
As the workers were already used to it, they would only need at least three hours to build a simple house, and as they started building yesterday, the houses for the seventy survivors would be completed soon which completely surprised the latter as it was only then they understood why the rules stated that no one is allowed to question where the materials have come since it really was a work of magic.
Meanwhile, Kevin and his group of trained men have now joined and become part of the Rangers under Ethan's supervision while the Doctors and Nurses have been given the task to start checking up on everyone inside the base just to make sure that no one is sick. On the other hand, there were also a number of professionals among the new survivors and they all have their own share of work.
"Zach, what calamity do you think will come tomorrow?" Max asked while he and Zach could be found patrolling the base. Truthfully speaking, he still felt like everything that happened so far was surreal because he had never once thought that the world would become like this.
"I don't know but I hope it would not be dangerous." Zach replied while also thinking about it. Judging from the calamities that happened so far, he thought that there are now only a number of calamities left that still haven't come. He could think of some, but he was clueless about which one it would be.
"You're right. Also, it doesn't matter what calamity it will be, we will continue surviving it. That's all that matters." Max said before giving Zach a pat on his back. He knew that it was all thanks to him that he was still alive right now and he would never forget that for the rest of his life.
Hearing Max, Zach then just smiled before agreeing to what he said. He then just looked ahead as they continued patrolling the base while at the same time reminiscing the stories of their past lives before shit started to happen.
The next day comes, and the houses for the new survivors have long been finished. Everyone was anxious as they waited for the notifications to sound. Some of them could be found outside their outside not minding the sandstorm happening while the rest waited inside their houses.
Time passed by and the notification started sounding to everyone.
[00:10:00]
[00:07:00]
[00:05:00]
[00:04:00]
[00:01:00]
[00:00:00]
[World Cleansing Procedure 7: Sandstorm is over.]
Everyone suddenly felt like the wind had stopped gaining their relief but they still didn't rejoice as they waited for the last notification that would tell them what calamity was about to come.
[Commencing World Cleansing Procedure 8: Hurricane Calamity.]
Hearing the last notification, everyone didn't know how to react since the calamity this time was quite dangerous. However, some of them still felt relieved thinking what are the chances that a Hurricane would come to their base.
With that, the base then started bustling with noise at the thought that they had yet survived another calamity was a fact but everyone immediately stopped talking as they felt the air around them start moving again and in just a couple of seconds, all their relief was replaced by fear upon seeing a hurricane started forming inside the base.
Seeing it firsthand, every survivor started panicking and shouting as they immediately ran away from the hurricane. Chaos started inside the base as all they could think of was to get away and survive however, the hurricane had already formed and started pulling everything by its strong winds.
"Run to the other side of the base! Faster!" Zach shouted with all his might as he looked at the hurricane inside the base not expecting it to happen. He then immediately told Max and the rest of the Rangers to help the others especially the children to get away as fast as he could already saw a couple of people being pulled by the wind.
Following that, Zach hurriedly entered back his house before taking out a number of grenades from his inventory and putting them all in a bag. He then also checked Jenny and his family and assured them that nothing would harm them if they stayed inside. With that, he immediately left the house since he still had important things to do.
On the other hand, the situation outside the base was very chaotic as the survivors continued to run to the other side of the base as the hurricane started getting bigger and bigger. Some of the houses have already been pulled and wrecked by it. It's as if the hurricane had its mind on its own seeing it not moving in its position and continuing to destroy the base.
"Max! Max! Where are you?! I need a hand!" Zach shouted while looking for Max but after seeing that no one was shouting back, he could only move forward and do it by himself. Looking at the hurricane, he knew that if he let it be, then it would only continue to get bigger it gets and so it needs to be stopped before it's too late.
While everyone was running away from the hurricane, Zach was the only one moving closer to it. Everyone who passed him was telling him to run as it was too dangerous. Ethan himself warns Zach to get away but only to be found being ordered to manage the survivors instead.
As Zach was getting closer and closer to the Hurricane, he was also observing the survivors in his surroundings trying to make sure that no one would be affected by the idea that he was about to do. In fact, upon knowing that it was hurricanes that they were dealing with this time, he already had a countermeasure theory for it.
"Zach!! Everyone's already evacuated. Let's go!" Bravely enough, Ethan came back for Zach after finally moving the rest of the survivors to the other side of the base. He, however, put some distance between them thinking that the wind was getting stronger.
"Good! Move back. This is going to be dangerous." Zach looked back and saw Ethan which made him quite touched seeing him looking back for him, but he had to do it. Taking the bag full of grenades with him, he takes one inside of it before looking at the hurricane in the distance.
"What are you doing?!!" Ethan saw the grenade in Zach's hand and wasn't sure what he was going to do with it. He then just continues to shout at him that they need to get back before it's too late as it's getting dangerous.
"That movie better be right." Zach said as he hesitatingly pulled the safety pin of the grenade and hurriedly put it back into the bag before throwing it out with all his might towards the hurricane. Truthfully speaking, he has only watched a movie about it saying hurricanes were made up of cold and hot air, making either side cooler or much hotter than the other would destroy the balance thus stopping it.
Ethan watched Zach throw the bag and saw it getting pulled by the hurricane. He then was about to come and get Zach when suddenly a loud explosion echoed throughout the base which flew him away from the impact together with Zach.
"aargh." Zach crashed towards the nearby house nearly destroying it but the pain wasn't his concern as he immediately looked into the sky and saw the hurricane vanish together with the bright explosion. Seeing it disappear, he couldn't help but smile thinking that the movie didn't let him down.
"arrggh. Holy shit!' Meanwhile, Ethan's face was full of surprise and amazement even though his body was in pain after he also crashed into a house. He then just looked at Zach thinking how he thought of such an idea which only increased his respect towards him seeing how brave he was after doing such a dangerous thing.
Following that, Zach then immediately called all the Rangers and started rounding the survivors. Calming them down was the first priority before helping the injured to get treated. Zach also ordered every able man to start clearing the place and count the number of casualties on their end especially those who have died.
Meanwhile, everyone also knew the fact that it was Zach who had bravely destroyed the hurricane, and just like Ethan, all of them increased their respect and faith in him thinking just how much more he would do to help them.
After some time, everyone then finally could now breathe in relief, but they were not that happy at all as aside from a dozen or so injured people there were more than thirty people who had unfortunately perished from the hurricane.
Everyone expresses their condolences, especially the family and loved ones of the dead watching Zach and the rest of the Rangers burying the dead survivors to a place far enough from the base. They could be found weeping in sadness as they couldn't believe that they had left the world and were now resting in peace.
Meanwhile, Zach himself could be found digging the ground with a very serious face as he also lost someone close to him. Having enough depth, he then stopped and walked towards a particular dead body where he saw Rose crying beside it with Zoey trying to console her.
It was Max's body, Zach found him himself and he couldn't believe that he really had perished. He still remembered what they had talked about yesterday about surviving all the calamities and yet it looked like he didn't keep his promise. He then just looked at Rose for a while before carrying Max's body ready to bury him.
Right after that, each one of them took a moment of silence as they looked at the dead survivors for the last time. Zach, on the other hand, suddenly steps forward gaining everyone's attention.
"They were not dead. They were just gone. For all of you here, the precious moments you have with them will continue to live on. So, move on and continue to survive as their memories were now a part of our stories." Zach solemnly said while looking at the burial grounds.
Following that, each and everyone then started heading back to the base. All of them had their own circumstances especially Zach who had already moved on not because he was a heartless person but because he still had so much work to do.
Arriving at the base, Zach immediately called Thomas, Jackson, Edward, Bob, and other construction specialists wanting to immediately plan the reconstruction of the base all the while raising ideas on how to further improve the place. After spending an hour with them, Zach then left them alone as he still had something to do.
Rounding up the Rangers, Zach found the number had reduced more noticeably Max, Johnny, and the newly recruited Luke, however, he no longer talked about the dead as he immediately relays his orders telling them that he needed men who would look after the base 24/7 as the formation of hurricanes were pretty unpredictable.
Zach told them to immediately report if there were any sightings of hurricanes far or not that far from their base so as to immediately relay orders not wanting to repeat what happened back in the afternoon.
Zach was so focused on the task all night giving orders and tasks that he had already forgotten about the promise of initiating a party every time they survived a calamity. However, it was also the same as the survivors of the base, but it was not because they forgot about it, it was because they knew that it was not the right time for a party.
