I started channeling energy into my star shaped crystal and sending it into the tanks while they were still draining. It usually took almost twenty minutes for the tanks to drain completely but while the evos inside them were still submerged in the fluid they were more susceptible to being controlled.
I closed my eyes and felt my energy reaching the two evos inside the tanks. In the tank on the right was EV-O GRJ-28KE. But I always hated that designation and gave it the unofficial name Grogark. It was a combination of bobcat, raccoon, and skunk. It looked mostly like a raccoon only bigger. There were hints of the bobcat in its facial features with its slightly larger than normal eyes and curved canines. It had skunk coloring and a really long and puffy tail.
In the tank on the left was EV-O AIA-64KL once again I hated the designation and gave it the unofficial name Aivards. It was the odd combination of eagle, hawk, and wolf. It had the body of a eagle and stood well over eight feet tall. It had the face of a wolf and bright red fur all over its face, the feathers that covered its body were the same red hue. It had six large wings, wolf paws sat on the elbow of each wing with five razor tipped talon on each claw.
Both the aivard and grogark were the brain child of my dad and very important contract evos for the company. Which was why dad thought it was important that I made them come with everyone while we escaped.
The grogark instantly fell under my control, the aivard on the other hand resisted me. I felt most of the energy I sent at it bounce off and dissipated in the tank. I scowled and tiled my head at the evos tank.
"Something wrong?" Andy asked as he glanced back at me from the control panel.
"I'm trying to control the aivard but it's not working." I replied.
"Aivard?" Andy muttered. Louie just chuckled
"You know your dad hasn't given any of these evos a name Chase. He won't like you giving the prototypes names already." Louie said with a amusing smirk on his face. "Which one is the aivard?"
"EV-O AIA-64KL." I said pointing to the left tank. "It feels like my powers are bouncing right off it."
Both Andy and Louie paused when they heard that and looked back at me.
"Well that's interesting…" Andy said. I walked up to the tank and pulled the leather glove off my hand and placed it on the glass. My crystal glowed with a white light and the fluid in the tank glowed with the same light. I felt the my power collecting around the aivard and slowly working its way inside and reaching its mind. The aivard stopped struggling and I felt both the grogark and aivard's mind connected to me through my crystal.
"Got him." I said as my crystal dimmed as did the fluid in the tank. I took my hand off the glass and slipped my glove back on.
"Great. Another five minutes and we'll be done." Louie said.
I took a step back and looked at both of the tanks. They were nearly completely drained and you could easily see both evos floating in the solution. They were both awake inside the tanks and looking at me.
"Be calm, you'll be out in a few minutes." I told them. They stared back at me in quiet understanding.
A loud bang resonated throughout the warehouse followed by a loud screech that sent chills running down my spine. Andy and Louis froze and looked to each. I pulled my Jasko from my shoulder aimed it down the aisle.
"Andy, Louie, speed it up guys." I said.
"Speeding!" Andy exclaimed and start typing furiously at the console with Louie.
Loud monstrous roars echoed through the warehouse and in the distance I saw two figures racing our way. I looked down the sights of the jasko and realized my hands were shaking.
'Calm down, calm down, calm down! It's okay, just keep calm!' I told myself as the figure of a thrad became very visible charging towards me. I took a calming breath and took a shot at the thrad, my shot ran wide and I rushed to take another with the same result.
"Shit! Shit!" I cried out and fired two more shots. One hit a tube further down and spilled fluid all over the floor, the other grazed the cheek of the thrad in front. That wasn't enough to stop it however. I emptied my clip trying to kill just one of the thrads but everyone of my shots missed.
"For fucks sake Chase hit one of then!" Andy shouted at me.
"I'm out of bullets!" I screamed back.
"Oh you got to be shitting me!" Louie screamed and spun around to see the thrads. I tried to channel energy into my crystal to use to control the thrads but it wasn't moving fast enough. The first thrad leaped into the air, claws extended and jaws open and aimed at my throat.
Time slowed to a crawl and I saw my life flash before my eyes. It wasn't a long life or even a particularly happy one one. As I saw the hungry maw of the thrad creep ever closer to my throat I had a realization.
'I never punched Logan his giant ugly face!'
A loud shot rang out as blood and brains sprayed from the evos head, the force altering the thrads course and sending it crashing into a tube to the right of me. Another shot rang out and the other thrad's head flew back and it crashed to the ground and slid to a stop at my feet.
"Oh shit!" I exclaimed and took a few steps back into Andy and Louie.
"CHASE!" I heard Dad roar somewhere above me. I looked up and saw him standing on the gangplank above about fifteen yards away.
"Dad!" I yelled back.
"Some of the thrads made it inside!" He exclaimed.
"No shit!" Andy yelled over his shoulder.
"They were just scouts! Hurry up and get those evos downstairs before the rest start pouring in!" Dad ordered.
"Working on it Kingston!" Louie snapped then slapped a few buttons. A loud alarm ran off and two warning lights flashed at the tubes as the last of the fluid drained out of the tanks.
Andy and Louie took a few steps back and jumped behind me as the glass in the tanks slowly lowered into the floor, releasing the aivard and the grogark. Both evos shook, spraying the incubation fluid that clung to their bodies all over Andy, Louie and I.
"Mazel tov…" I muttered dryly and wiped some of the fluid from my face, trying my hardest to ignore the sickly sweet smell.
"GET THOSE THINGS DOWNSTAIRS NOW!" Dad roared at us.
"We're moving! Gods!" I yelled back then turned to look at evos. "Lets go, follow us."
The grogark was the first to listen. It took a uneasy step off the tube's floor and crashed right at my feet.
"Fuck!" I grumbled then hurried to help it stand up. It opm a few attempts before it was able to stand up and take a few shaky steps. The Aivard decided to try and follow suit with the grogark and step off the tube floor. It didn't fall like the gorgark but it was extremely slow.
"Gods above! They don't know how to walk Thomas!" Andy a reamed back at my dad.
"THEN HELP THEM!" Dad replied. Andy and Louie both groaned and moved on either side of the aivard and helped it balance. I stood in front if the grogark and gave it direction as I stepped over the thrad corpses and lead it down the aisle.
It felt like a eternity had passed before we reached the gangblank that Dad was looking down at us from. Both evos were walking more assuredly now and the aivard no longer needed Andy and Louie's support to stand.
"Hurry up you three!" Dad snapped.
"You want to come down and help!" Andy, Louie, and I snapped in unison. Dad groaned and followed us from above as we walked toward the basement entrance.
"Chase how are you doing on energy?" Dad asked as we neared the basement entrance.
"Good I think. I'm not actively spending any to control these two. Though the Aivard seemed to be resistant to my control." I replied.
"Aivard?" Dad groaned then shook his head.
"Chase I told you to stop giving prototypes type names. It makes it hard on us when the president gives them a different name later."
"The name kind of fits though." Andy said.
"For once." Louie added with a chuckle.
"Don't encourage him." Dad griped. As he reached the steps that lead to the main floor. He hurried down then and met us at the entrance to the basement. "Hurry, let's get them downstairs."
"Working on it Dad. They just learned how to walk, now they have to master stairs." I said as I lead the grogark down the stairs. He missed step and came crashing into me, sending both of us hurtling down the stairs. And unfortunately the grogark landed on top of me when we hit the basement floor.
"Chase you okay?!" Dad shouted down at me.
"This guy is heavy!" I yelled back up at him. The grogark managed to stand up and get off me without any assistance. I sat up and groaned as my body screamed in protest. The gorgark sat down next to me and licked my face as if it was apologizing. I smirked at the evo and rubbed his head then looked up the stairs.
Dad, Andy, and Louie were helping The Aivard down the stairs, thankfully it was just barely small enough to fit. Grogark and I moved to the side to let the aivard through.
"Which way?" I asked dad as he passed.
"All the way in the back. Your mother should be back there waiting for us." Dad replied. I nodded and lead the gorgark around another row of shelves and walked towards the back of the basement. The aivard was too wide to fit down the aisle that we were in but kept pace with us down the main aisle.
At the back of the basement was usually a giant bookshelf the reached the ceiling filled with files and reference books that the scientists used to help design prototype evos. The middle part of the bookshelf gad sunk into the floor to revel a long tunnel with small lamps dangling from the ceiling as far as the eye could see.
There was a small cluster of scientists and workers shuffling towards the entrance of the escape tunnel. At the mouth of the tunnel stood my mom with a clipboard. She made a make then hurried people through.
"Mom!" I exclaimed then rushed around the corner to her. She looked up from her clipboard and smiled with relief when she saw me.
"Chase! Thank the gods you're okay!" She exclaimed as she pulled me into a tight hug. She stilled when she saw the grogark behind me and her expression turned beastly when she saw dad, Andy, and Louie leading the Aivard.
"Judging by that look dad didn't tell you he was having me move these evos, did he?" I asked meekly. Mom narrowed her eyes at dad, shooting a frosty glare that made me suddenly glad it wasn't me she was mad at.
"No he did not…." She said coldly. "Thomas when this is all over I'd like to have a few words with you…"
"Yes honey…" Dad replied meekly.
World Fact: During the first six hours of the Ascended Thrads rampage the US military had no idea what was going on until a base in Illinois was attacked by a few hundred thrads. More than six hundred lives were lost and somehow splicers were still blamed for their deaths.
