"Mateo?" 

Penelope turned on her heels and all the blood in her face drained at once. 

She turned to look at Ari who didn't seem surprised in the least and felt her heart rage with a hatred so intense that she wished she could kill Ariana. 

She knew. She knew that Mateo was standing behind her which was why she provoked her. 

"What do you think you are doing?" Mateo demanded as he came to a stop right beside Penelope. He caught her arm and twisted her around to face him. "How can you slap someone in the face like this?" 

"No, Mateo. You are being fooled— she provoked me, I didn't mean to…it isn't how it looks," Penelope found herself getting flustered. She never thought that Ari was this sly when it came to scheming against someone. 

She glanced at Ari with resentment but the latter remained unbothered while staring back coolly.
