Bab 13: The turning point

Amelia sat at the edge of her bed that night, her mind spinning like a carousel she couldn't get off. Her earlier encounter with Enzo had left her shaken but more determined than ever. His chilling words echoed in her mind: You're mine now, Amelia. And no one leaves me.

Her chest tightened at the memory. She couldn't live like this—under constant threat, with her every step monitored and her every action scrutinized. She thought of Enzo's men, of their warnings about how dangerous he truly was. They weren't exaggerating; she was sure of that now.

She had to get out.

The morning light came too soon, its rays piercing through the thin curtains of her room. She hadn't slept much, her thoughts too tangled to let her rest. Amelia got dressed and headed for the kitchen, hoping the mundane task of preparing breakfast would steady her nerves.
