Bab 47: AN UNEXPECTED MISSION

"… and as you can see, the muscle mass appears to have compacted again. Bone density has increased by almost 15% compared to last month. We believe that if this growth rate continues, his entire body will become extremely resilient in about 3 to 4 months, as long as we don't account for that strange ability where his skin becomes impenetrable"

Inside the military command room, General Kim was receiving the report from the scientist in charge of Robert's examinations. Right now, he is presenting all the results while showing graphs and numbers on a computer screen.

"That boy did it again... it seems the theory that his strange and prodigious physiology was altered by the superstorm a year ago was true" - the general spoke calmly.

"It seems so, General. Luckily for him, it didn't cause a terrible mutation; on the contrary, it seems to have spurred his evolution"

The doctor replied, pondering the implications of these words.

Since Robert arrived in this world, he has undergone several medical exams month after month to evaluate how his body responded to the change of dimension, if it had any effects, if the storm had caused any alterations in his body, etc.

What the scientists confirmed was that the young man was changing month by month, his body was completely transforming.

Rather, he was evolving.

There was no other way for the scientist in charge of the project, a renowned world-class geneticist, to describe the changes Robert was undergoing.

All the muscle fibers in his body were experiencing a strange hypertrophy, where instead of becoming bulky like in bodybuilders who train by lifting weights, Robert's muscles seemed to compact more and more, maintaining their existing size.

This gave him a unique characteristic, increasing the amount of energy they could emit as physical power.

Similarly, the minerals deposited in his bones replaced calcium carbonate, common in humans, at a faster rate, forming homogeneous deposits of a strange compound, a kind of metal as light and strong as titanium, but it was something else.

This was surprising not because Robert was unique in his class, as the general had extensive knowledge of some individuals who possessed almost the same physical condition as the boy.

What was surprising about Robert was that, when he arrived, his physical exams showed that he had a consistency similar to that of an average human, and over time, everything increased.

This was something normal biology could not explain. But when it came to that boy, no scientific concept seemed able to do so.

"Even now that we can analyze his blood samples, we see that his immune power surpasses anything we know, as now even gamma radiation does not affect him. The only problem is that the samples keep getting destroyed when we try to store them secretly... I don't even try to make sense of it anymore"

The old general smiled at what the scientist was saying, as it was something that happened every time Robert's blood was extracted and they tried to store it by any means.

There was a kind of invisible force, something that kept a vigilant watch over the actions of people and the use they would give to the blood samples obtained from Robert. If it was only for study, the samples remained stable. If they tried to do anything else, they self-destructed.

Again, and as the scientist said, this was complete madness. In his twenty years as the leading expert in molecular engineering and biotechnology, it was the first time in his life that the scientist did not have a reasonable explanation for the reality in front of him.

That is why they stopped trying to do so. There was no sense in losing more valuable samples; they did not want the boy to stop trusting them.

"Don't worry, doctor. You know how it is, nothing is normal with him. Instead, go and tell him to come in"

"As you command, General. With your permission"

The scientist left and the general was left alone, lost in his thoughts.

The dim light from the monitors illuminated his face, revealing an expression of contemplation. The report with Robert's results continued flashing on the screen in front of him.

"Kid... everything about you is extraordinary" - he thought out loud.

Robert's body was something that defied logic.

"Your combat skills and physiology are unparalleled. You have the potential to be the best soldier we've ever seen, even surpassing those kids running around Seoul fighting each other, proclaiming themselves 'Kings.' What a bunch of idiots"

General Kim whispered with a tone of disdain as he mentioned the last phrase.

He reached into his pocket and took out a small golden medallion. The surface of the medallion was covered with very strange and complex patterns. These patterns seemed to be a mix of sacred geometry and arcane symbolism.

In the center of the medallion, there was a small translucent crystal. This crystal had a faint yellowish glow, emitting a soft and pulsating light that suggested the energy contained within.

The general contemplated this medallion for a good while, especially the shining crystal.

"And to think that from the beginning you were able to resist its effect…"

The General whispered while smiling ironically.

"And yet, you're a kid who doesn't take things seriously. All you want is to enjoy life surrounded by women... Ah, I feel stupid thinking you are my best option at the moment... I guess I'm getting old."

Knock, knock, knock

"Come in" - General Kim sighed as he was pulled from his thoughts and put the medallion away in his pocket.

"Old man, here I am. Tell me, what am I good for?" - Robert said, peeking through the door as he entered.

"Come in, I want to talk business with you"

"Huh?"

......................

When Robert entered General Kim's office, he didn't think the first words he would hear today would be those.

Not in his wildest dreams did he think he would hear those words come from the mouth of the veteran soldier.

Every time Robert went to the government facilities, the general called him to supposedly discuss some important matters. However, what the old soldier did was lecture him.

Well, it's not like the general got angry for no reason, since the old general always had to fix the messes that Robert made.

Like that time he fucked the daughters of a brigadier general on the main stage before an important military parade, or when he fucked the wife of the minister of defense along with her daughter, who came to visit the headquarters.

That's not even taking into account the countless female recruits who were willingly fucked uncontrollably, causing Robert's fame to become something of an urban legend within the military.

That's why the old general also quickly took him out of the military facilities when he asked to go to high school with Ijin, so he could get a break from all the depravity Robert had committed.

"Old man, are you drunk?" - the boy asked ironically - "You know, I know you're one of the most powerful people in the country, but it's way too early for you to be drinking"

"Get in here and close the door, you damned brat" - General Kim snorted at Robert's words.

The boy entered, closed the door, and walked toward the chairs in front of the general's desk.

"Well, how do you expect me to react when the first thing you say after not seeing each other for a week is that we need to talk business? You've never used those words with me, and anyone who heard you would think you're a little out of your mind"

As he settled into the chairs, Robert continued to tease the general, as if testing his patience. It wasn't that he disliked the old general; it was just that it came naturally to him to want to annoy him.

Over time, their strange relationship had grown closer, allowing them to get along despite the annoyances, anger, and shouting from the old general towards the boy.

General Kim didn't respond to his provocations, as he already knew how the brat acted when he wanted to annoy him. Instead, he was very direct - "I want to talk to you about the Four Major Crews. I know Captain Kang gave you a general report on the current situation in civil society"

Robert raised an eyebrow when he heard this term.

When he received the report from Captain Kang a couple of weeks ago, Robert had been very curious to learn about this peculiar story of criminal gangs fighting each other for control of businesses in Seoul.

Robert was completely sure that all that mess came from some manhwa or webtoon; he didn't believe something so ridiculous could come from anywhere else. Nevertheless, no matter how absurd it was, he felt he needed to take it into account, as he now lived in this city.

When he asked the system for information about this matter, it didn't get a satisfactory response. The system only provided information as long as he faced a character from that story.

Since the center of Seoul was an area outside the territory where those gangs operated, Robert had not encountered any of them so far.

However, what did this have to do with the old general? Gang fights were not something a military officer of his level should be watching over.

Although the report that Captain Kang gave them was at Ijin's request, civil matters had nothing to do with the military institution.

"Of course, I read it" - Robert responded sarcastically - "It seems that Korean society lives in two realities. One where everything is rosy, another where mafias fight each other to gain control of the underworld"

After reading that report, he thought for a moment that this could be a way to gain many benefits, as mafias always get money from the illicit businesses they conduct.

However, he knew he would get into a lot of trouble if he did that.

First, the director of the NIS had his eyes on him, and although the old spy hadn't done anything against him so far, getting involved in such a mess would give him the perfect excuse to bring him under his control.

Moreover, he knew that the general present here would not agree with that method of business either, as it would technically be fostering disorder in the city.

Both Director Lee and General Kim were old demons who controlled everything that happened in the country. Robert was sure they were already aware of this fact, and it was more than likely they had a containment plan.

For these reasons, he dismissed the idea of getting involved in that stupid fight.

"Well, at least you know the basics. However, you still have much to learn and experience" - the general opened a drawer, took out a yellow envelope, and placed it on the table - "What I'm about to tell you is of utmost importance"

Robert's thoughts were interrupted by the general's question - "Well, don't keep me in suspense, man"

The old general sighed.

"I need you to get involved in that fight between gangs and mafias, to impose yourself on all of them and be the victor who controls the entire underworld of Seoul and the country"
