Bab 10: Chapter 10: A Fateful Encounter

The dim light of the holding cells cast long shadows, reflecting the somber mood that filled the space. Princess Asake stood beside her father, her gaze drifting over the rows of captured soldiers. Their faces told stories of defeat, despair, and resilience. Yet, as her eyes moved from one prisoner to the next, they came to rest on a man whose aura stood apart from the rest.

Azazel.

He sat tall despite the weight of his iron shackles, his piercing eyes fixed on the Emperor with a defiance that refused to yield. Asake's heart skipped a beat, an inexplicable pull rooting her where she stood. He must be the leader of the captured contingent, she thought, her lips parting slightly as she took him in.

Her expression softened into a sad grin, though her heart raced with something far more profound. For reasons she could not yet understand, she felt an undeniable connection to him, as if their fates had already intertwined.

Lost in her thoughts, Asake nearly collided with a soldier standing at attention. Startled, she turned quickly to face him.

"I'm so sorry, Your Highness!" stammered the soldier, bowing deeply. "Please forgive me!"

"It's all right," Asake replied, brushing off the moment with a gracious smile. Her gaze lingered on him. "I don't believe I've seen you before. Are you new here?"

"No, Your Highness," the soldier replied, standing upright. "I've been in your father's service for quite some time. My name is Boyka."

Asake tilted her head, studying him for a moment. "Boyka, is it? You've served my father well, then."

"Yes, Your Highness. It is my honor," Boyka said, bowing slightly.

Their exchange was interrupted by Emperor Morris, whose voice carried from across the room. "Is everything all right, Asake?"

"Yes, Father, I'm fine," she replied, stepping back. As she prepared to leave, she cast one last glance at Boyka, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "I hope to see you around, Boyka."

The soldier straightened, smiling faintly. "Worry not, Your Highness. You'll be seeing more of me."

Asake's lips curved into a faint smile before she turned to follow her father. Both walked away, their paths illuminated by the dim flicker of torches lining the corridor. Unbeknownst to her father, Asake's thoughts were far from the prisoners or the victory speeches that had rung through the palace.

She was consumed by an idea.

---

Later that evening, Asake sat alone in her chambers, the faint light of the moon casting a silver glow across her face. She couldn't shake the feeling she'd felt in the holding cells. Something about Azazel's defiance and Boyka's sincerity lingered in her mind. She thought of Azazel's piercing gaze, but it was Boyka's warm smile that left her pondering a plan.

"How can I bring him closer?" she murmured, pacing her room. She stopped abruptly, a devious smile creeping across her lips. "Of course," she said to herself. "He could serve as my personal bodyguard."

The idea took root, and before she could second-guess herself, she resolved to put her plan into action.

---

The next morning, Princess Asake entered her father's chamber, her steps light but her resolve firm. Emperor Morris sat at his desk, pouring over reports from the frontlines. His brows furrowed in concentration, but his expression softened when he saw his daughter approach.

"Good morning, Asake," he said, setting the papers aside. "What brings you here so early?"

"Good morning, Father," she replied with a smile, taking a seat across from him. "I've come with a request."

The Emperor raised an eyebrow. "A request? What sort of request?"

Asake clasped her hands together, her tone shifting to one of concern. "Father, the universe grows more uncertain with every passing day. Even with our victories, the war has left its mark, and there are whispers of rebellion. I fear for the safety of our family, especially you... and myself."

Morris leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful. "You raise a valid concern. The war has indeed stirred unrest, and we must always remain vigilant. What do you propose?"

Asake hesitated for a moment, feigning apprehension. "I believe it would be wise to assign me a personal bodyguard. Someone capable, loyal, and strong."

The Emperor nodded slowly. "A reasonable request. And do you have someone in mind?"

"Yes, Father," she said, her voice steady but her heart racing. "There is a soldier named Boyka. He served on the frontlines and has been loyal to you for years. I believe he would be the perfect candidate."

Morris's lips curved into a small smile. "Boyka, you say? I've heard his name before. A competent soldier, no doubt. But tell me, Asake—have you grown fond of him? I've received reports of you speaking to him yesterday."

Asake felt her cheeks flush but maintained her composure. "He made an impression, Father. I trust he will serve well in the role."

The Emperor chuckled softly. "Very well. Your request is granted. Boyka will be summoned and informed of his new position."

Before he could call for his attendants, the door burst open, and Abbadon strode into the room, his heavy boots echoing against the marble floor. His expression was grim, and he carried an air of urgency.

"My Emperor," Abbadon said with a bow, "I bring news from the front."

Morris waved a dismissive hand at Asake, signaling the conversation was over. "Go now, my daughter," he said, turning his attention to his trusted general.

Asake nodded, though her heart was alight with triumph. She left the chamber with a lightness in her step, knowing that Boyka would soon be by her side.

---

The corridors of the palace were alive with whispers that day, but Asake paid them no mind. Her thoughts were her own, and for the first time in a long while, she felt as though she had taken control of her destiny.

The stars above seemed to shimmer brighter that night, as if they, too, were watching her story unfold. Yet even as she celebrated her small victory, she knew her path was uncertain, and the universe had a way of testing the strongest of resolves.

Still, she smiled to herself. Whatever lay ahead, she would face it with courage—and perhaps, with Boyka at her side.
