The demons. The Others. They swarm around me, whispering, their voices like knives drawn together. “James,” they say. “James. James. James.”

“We’re coming.”

I had no idea what it meant, but when my eyes burst open, I knew four things simultaneously:

1. I was lying on the floor in the fetal position, tears forming a wet pool beneath my cheek.

2. My dad stood over me, shouting my name - but he didn’t look concerned, only angry.

3. Being a Seer sucked and…

4. Something bad was coming for James. Something very, very bad.

“My god, Miriam. What have you done to yourself?”

“What?” I struggled to a seated position, with no help from my father, thank you very much.

“What is it? Heroin? Cocaine?”

“What?” I glared up at him, my voice a shriek.
