After his mini panic attack, uncle Lumian carried Eru all the way through the small path.
Erudite silently laid on his back. He couldn't help but think about the illusion. There was information from the book he read about illusion creating demons in the dark forests. So it was a shock when it happened. Later, her uncle explained everything. It was actually not a demon that caused that illusion, rather it was the fog.
It had some kind of residual enchantment to it. In ancient times, this dark forest used to be a war ground for giants. It was literally a burial ground for giant serpents and beasts. Later on the world trees grew on those rotting corpses forming this huge forest that was impenetrable.
"Kid, you awake?"
Eru placed his head on his back, nodded.
Lumian gazed back at him and smirked. "Cuz I'm going to need you to walk again," he gently placed him down and stretched his back. "Wow, kid, you weigh nothing," he whispered.
He just gave him a glum stare. 'If I weighed nothing, why are you stretching your back ah?' he thought with a small smile.
"Let's go," Lumian held a hand out.
Eru took his hands and both of them walked together. The path went so narrow that they both had to walk sideways like a crab. "Uncle...do you think that these illusions might be true?"
"Hmm, illusions are a combined reflection of your greatest fears. Nothing more, don't take it to heart. It was merely a fragment of imagination," Lumian said.
The pathways lead to a small brook. The water was muddy and murky, but the clearing next to it looked safe compared to the entire forest. Swiftly his uncle took out their lunch and set up camp.
Eru sat in the corner in a daze. What he saw in his dream was traumatizing. What if grandma was really dead on earth? Then all his hard work would go to waste. 'Should I not try only? Should I give up?' he thought, biting his already abused fingernails.
"Stop it,"
"Hmm," Eru gazed up at his uncle.
He was squatting next to a tree and setting up a small camp fire. "Stop worrying so much. It was not real," Lumian assured.
Eru nodded. "I guess so." Small word could not calm down his heart's turmoil. Yet still Uncle Lumian's assurance brought some comfort to her soul.
He sat down and started meditating. The weird power in him slowly revolted all inside his body, completing a full cycle around his veins and meridians.
Soon his turbulent heart calmed down. 'Let's forget about all negative thoughts. As of now I only need to concentrate on getting powerful. My gran....she would be alive. I can only save her if I can pass all these trials.' He thought with resolution.
A tantalizing scent of roasted meat wafted through the wind. He slowly peeked out to find his uncle roasting a huge boar in the open fire.
"Where.... did you get that?" Eru was baffled. Till now he never heard even a sound of his uncle moving. Then how did he find such a huge boar? He scratched his head and peered at Lumian.
"I just hunted," Lumian whispered while chopping some onions. "Calmed down yet?"
"Yes," Eru whispered.
"Then come here and chop some veggies," he beckoned him close and held out a small chopping board and a knife.
Erudite held it awkwardly. He tried cutting the carrots in cubes it but needed up looking like they were brutally ground. Every piece in was jagged and uneven. "We can just eat the meat," he whispered with a grimace.
On hind sight one could see Lumian hiding his smirk. He took the chopped carrots and snorted. "No, we should eat a balanced diet. Or else your dad will have my head," he let out an unrestrained laughter gazing at his chopped carrots. He brought out a wok from who knows where and started roasting all the veggies as well.
Eru watched him cook with a grimace. The carrots looked super uneven compared to the clean cut onions roasting in the wok. 'I guess my cooking skill did not improve in the slightest,'
Even on earth, he was very bad at cooking. And that trait has carried over to this world as well. 'But I should learn that as well. Survival skills are necessary,'
With a small smile, he took over the wok from Lumian's hands and started sauteing it. Adding some condiments, the stir-fried vegetable ended up tasting... edible.
Eating eth roasted meat and veggies, Eru thought about imposter Zhong.....no Rebus. There were so many mysteries surrounding him. But one by one, they started unveiling.
About Erudite being Nyx rebirth. But one thing was not clear. Was Rebus here to kindle their dead romance, or is he here for something else?
