Under the leadership of the hotel owner Bruce, Kara still came in.
"You should really learn from Miss Jennifer. If you're willing to dress up a bit, countless people would invite you to dinner just by standing in front of the door," Bruce teased Kara deliberately.
Jennifer glanced at Kara secretly.
Kara was irritated. Girl, they call you Miss Jennifer, can't you recognize such an unfamiliar title? And you're actually happy about it?
As for Bruce's statement, Kara wasn't bothered at all.
"Do you really think I care about coming here to eat? Or do you think I don't have any money?" Kara snorted. "I'd rather share my prey with the pack than sit with you beasts in fancy clothes."
At least the hostility was direct, without any hidden schemes.
Bruce shrugged, muttering a curse under his breath.
The trio walked into the hotel's lobby. As the boss, Bruce didn't need to reserve a seat in advance. Unlike others, where you might need to book a week ahead or risk not being entertained.
For example... Harvey Dent.
As they passed by a table, Harvey Dent was sitting there with Rachel, talking.
Harvey was complaining to Rachel about the outrageousness of the hotel. He had waited three weeks. Apparently, this was the last attention he received after revealing his identity as a government official.
They also had to find someone, like someone to manage sanitation.
But then again, who was their boss?
"Rachel?" Bruce noticed the situation at the table and made a surprised sound when he saw Rachel.
Kara slapped her forehead, realizing that was a bit too much.
Jennifer nudged Kara playfully, signaling her to be quiet and asking who that was.
"That's your rival in love," Kara muttered bluntly. "She's Bruce's childhood sweetheart. So you know, your rival isn't me, it's her. But don't be discouraged, I see she's dating this gentleman in front of us."
Bruce glanced back at Kara, who heard him, then at Jennifer, who shyly lowered her head.
Kara, you fool. Don't let him hear you.
Kara's words were only heard by Jennifer and Bruce, not even by Rachel and Harvey who were in front of them.
Rachel looked a little embarrassed upon seeing Bruce but forced a smile and greeted him, "Bruce, this is Harvey. Harvey, this is Bruce."
Bruce reached out to shake Harvey's hand, and the two exchanged polite greetings.
But that was all; they weren't really familiar with each other.
Rachel glanced at the two women behind Bruce again and smiled, "Why don't you introduce your friends?"
Bruce turned sideways, introducing them one by one. "This is Miss Kara, who now works for the Planet Daily. She's a sharp-tongued reporter with a well-known column. And this is Miss Jennifer, a former well-known prosecutor in Metropolitan Dingding, now appointed as Chief Justice of Gotham City."
Harvey's eyes lit up, and he took the initiative to shake Jennifer's hand, saying, "I've heard of your selflessness before. I've been admiring you for a long time."
Jennifer responded with a polite smile, "I've heard of you, Mr. Harvey. Before coming to Gotham, I heard you were appointed as the new Chief Prosecutor. It seems we'll be able to work well together to straighten things out in Gotham City."
That's right, Jennifer and Kara already knew that the newly appointed Chief Prosecutor was Harvey Dent, and Jennifer had been promoted to Chief Justice.
Bruce glanced at Jennifer and Harvey, thought for a moment, and suddenly said emotionally, "I think we might as well join the same table."
He had the sudden idea to test things out. No one else knew, but Kara and Rachel knew he was Batman.
Today, he had just met Gotham's newly appointed Chief Justice and Chief Prosecutor. He wanted to hear their views on the current state of Gotham and their future plans.
But Rachel obviously misunderstood, muttering, "Isn't it inconvenient? The hotel probably won't agree."
However, even though she was Bruce's childhood sweetheart, she still underestimated him.
Kara shrugged. "It's his."
The whole hotel belonged to Bruce, so he could come and go as he pleased.
In the end, under the manager's arrangement, the waiter pulled three extra chairs beside a small two-person table.
This square table, which was just about enough for four people, was now filled with five.
Kara complained, "Can you really let it go like this?"
Bruce clearly didn't want to drink, so he gave Kara a wink, signaling her that he could entertain her at his manor later that night and not to talk now.
Kara was about to order, but just then, she closed the menu with a sigh. "A bottle of wine. I don't care what kind, just bring the most expensive one."
The waiter stared at Kara in confusion. How could someone not care about the brand of wine they wanted to drink?
People who come here are particular. Even drinking wine requires several steps: shaking the glass, smelling it, knowing how much to sip, how much to pour. It's a hassle.
Anyway, Kara didn't care anymore. Whether it's red wine, white wine, or even beer, it didn't matter.
Bruce clearly had something on his mind. He smiled at Harvey and suddenly asked, "The new Chief Prosecutor hasn't been welcomed yet. Speaking of which, you've heard of the masked vigilante, Batman? What do you think about someone so dangerous, who is not under the law?"
Kara, sitting across from him, turned away with an amused smile at the corner of her mouth.
But Harvey's answer surprised Kara. "Gotham City should be proud of those who act courageously, Mr. Bruce. Although he is indeed a dangerous person, what he does cannot be denied as just."
Kara saw Bruce's eyes light up. Even she became intrigued by Harvey. "Are you saying Batman is a hero? And Oracle?"
She didn't forget her own responsibilities.
"But in my opinion, the officials you trust and elect are the real heroes, not a person above the law." Kara became more interested in hearing Harvey's response.
Even Bruce said, "Who allowed him to be so arrogant?"
The two of them exchanged secret smiles, as they were the very Batman and Oracle Man they were talking about.
Rachel glanced at Kara thoughtfully.
It turned out that this time, it wasn't Harvey who answered their question, but Jennifer, who spoke up. She picked up the red wine the waiter had brought and poured about a third into her glass.
Looking at the bright red liquid in the glass, Jennifer said coldly, "Everyone who stands by and watches as the bullies wreak havoc on this city, as it finally degenerates into decay… Batman and Oracle Man? They are the hoped-for dawn in this darkness."
