Bab 51: Chapter 51 (edited)

Bruce Wayne, the Batman, stood firmly across from the man who was once his savior but had become his adversary: Ra's al Ghul. The memory of sparing Ra's years ago still lingered in Bruce's mind, but it appeared mercy had only emboldened the leader of the League of Shadows. Ra's, ever the zealot, had returned to Gotham with a vengeance, determined to see the city fall.

"You think bringing someone to help you will make a difference, Bruce?" Ra's taunted, his voice dripping with disdain. "This city is beyond saving. Gotham must perish for the world to be cleansed."

Kara, standing beside Batman, raised an eyebrow. She hadn't planned to involve herself deeply in this battle, but Ra's condescension irritated her. She placed a hand on her hip, her tone sharp: "Kittens and puppies, huh? Are these your big guns?"

Ra's smirked and clapped his hands. Shadows shifted as more assassins emerged from the darkness—nearly twenty in total, their presence adding weight to the oppressive atmosphere. Each one moved with practiced precision, their stances a testament to years of rigorous training. The League of Shadows had brought their finest, masters of martial arts, ninjutsu, and weaponry.

Bruce cast a sidelong glance at Kara, a hint of exasperation in his voice. "Do you always have to antagonize them?"

"Hey, if they're going to show off, they might as well commit," Kara shot back, her grin not hiding the confidence in her tone.

Ra's ignored their banter, his attention already shifting as he climbed aboard a waiting train. The train, carrying a microwave emitter, was critical to his plan to unleash the Scarecrow's fear toxin across Gotham. The toxin, harmless in liquid form, would become lethal once vaporized, spreading through the city's water pipes and plunging Gotham into chaos.

"You can't stop me, Detective," Ra's called out, addressing Bruce with his usual derisive nickname. "The destruction of Gotham is inevitable. Farewell."

The train's engine roared to life. Bruce clenched his fists, ready to pursue, but Kara placed a hand on his shoulder. "Go. I've got the League covered," she said, her voice steady.

Bruce hesitated. "Are you sure? These aren't amateurs."

Kara's eyes gleamed with determination. "Isn't that why you asked me here? I'm not going to let them stop us. Now go!"

With a reluctant nod, Bruce dashed toward the departing train, only to find two assassins stepping into his path. They moved as one, drawing their katana with deadly intent.

Before either could strike, a pair of projectiles whistled through the air. Bruce barely registered the motion as two of his bat-shaped throwing blades—stolen by Kara at some point—embedded themselves in the assassins' foreheads. The two collapsed instantly, their bodies crumpling to the ground.

Bruce shot a look back at Kara, who casually twirled another pair of blades in her fingers. "You're welcome," she said with a smirk.

"Just don't get killed," Bruce muttered before leaping onto the moving train.

The remaining assassins, unfazed by their fallen comrades, focused their attention on Kara. She stood in the center of the street, her long black coat billowing in the wind, her expression now deadly serious.

"So," she said, tossing the blades to the ground. "Who's first?"

For a moment, none of the assassins moved, sensing the predator in front of them. It was as though Kara's very presence froze them in place, a primal fear taking root in their minds.

"Pathetic," Kara sneered. "Is this all the League has? You talk about justice and balance, but you can't even step up to face me?"

Her taunts struck a nerve. One assassin broke ranks, letting out a fierce battle cry as he charged. Kara moved before he could swing his blade, her leg snapping out in a powerful kick. The blow landed with a sickening crack, shattering the man's ribs and sending him flying backward. He hit the ground lifelessly, his sword clattering beside him.

The other assassins hesitated no longer. Swords were drawn in unison as they rushed her from all sides. Kara smiled grimly, her body a blur as she dodged and countered with ruthless efficiency.

She leaped into their midst, her movements precise and deadly. Her kicks and punches struck like lightning, breaking bones and incapacitating her attackers before they could retaliate. A roundhouse kick sent one assassin flying into another, and a spinning backfist left another unconscious before he could even raise his sword.

The sound of shattering bones and muffled cries filled the air. Kara moved like a storm, her strikes unrelenting and her agility unmatched. Within moments, half the League lay incapacitated or worse.

From the corner of her eye, she caught movement—an assassin lunging at her blind spot. Kara ducked, grabbed his wrist, and twisted, forcing him to drop his blade. She followed with an elbow to his face, sending him sprawling.

"Is that all you've got?" she called out, her voice echoing in the stillness.

The remaining assassins exchanged wary glances. Despite their training, they were no match for Kara's brutal efficiency. Their fear was palpable.

"That's what I thought," she muttered, brushing her coat off casually. She turned her back on them, daring them to strike. None did.

Meanwhile, Bruce clung to the roof of the train, inching closer to Ra's. The sound of Kara's battle faded into the distance, but her presence lingered in his mind. For once, he felt a glimmer of hope—not just for Gotham, but for himself.
