Bab 1470: Chapter 992 Battle for the High Tower (26)_2

If they sent more people and combined them with a few magicians, they could indeed break through; however, the opponent was starting to buy time by using their space.

Meanwhile, once the defense of the Seventh Mountain was weakened, Batman would send a reconnaissance unit to seize the opportunity, causing the commander of the Seventh Mountain to hurriedly retreat.

In the end, the commander had no choice but to contract his defensive circle, reducing the patrol range and frequency, forbidding any demon to leave the camp without orders.

However, this was proving very hard for the demon soldiers, as they are naturally more hot-tempered than humans. Apart from their race giving them an advantage, they differed from other slaves because they thrived on bloodlust, filled with wickedness, and couldn't fathom anything beyond lopping off enemy heads for amusement.

The opposing commander didn't know about psychology, let alone the fact that repressing emotions for a short period of time could turn them into an emotional time bomb waiting to go off one day.

And tonight, Batman planned to ignite this bomb.

Previously, constant disappearances of comrades who went out for patrols and reconnaissance brought significant psychological stress on the demon soldiers. They could handle fighting the enemy on the front lines but not the sudden, ghost-like fatalities when the enemy was nowhere to be seen.

They vanish when isolated but find unity to be useless as the enemy is nowhere to be found. Failing to attack the enemy camp results in being scolded upon return. After shrinking the defense circle, they can only stay in camp all day. These demon soldiers were almost driven mad.

At that moment, a spearhead unit led by Merkel sneaked into the camp during rest time. Of course, none in this unit were capable of confronting a demon soldier face-to-face, so they didn't plan to do so.

The shuttle snake demons threw a couple of fire spears, igniting the tents, and forced the first batch of demon soldiers out. These infantrymen had no tactical awareness. They shouted immediately when they discovered the enemy.

The other demons moved upon sensing danger, all rushing out. However, the reason they could pursue the enemy and achieve military results normally was because someone was commanding them. Without anyone to guide them, these demons were crashing around like flies without heads.

Some larger demons woke up and mistakenly thought the enemy was behind the camp, so they charged over there, knocking down medium-sized demons and trampling small demons to death. The small demons scattered everywhere, and the magicians didn't know where to cast their illumination spells, ultimately throwing them onto their comrades.

Within a few tens of minutes, the entire camp was in chaos. All the demons were howling. In the stampede, the commander's arm was crushed. Many demons started to run out, and thus, all the demons began to flee.

Once they got out, they didn't know what to do next, so they thought about returning to the camp. However, once the tide of people is cut and dispersed, the slave mineworkers waiting at the side used prepared traps and tactical cooperation to take them down one by one.

Standing on top of the Third Mountain, Batman saw a sea of flames surrounding the defensive camp of the Seventh Mountain. As a signal flare made from a bomb launched into the sky, he knew it was the perfect time to take over the Seventh Mountain.

What happened next couldn't be achieved by cunning tricks. Although they had exploded the camp, the remaining forces could still put up some resistance. So, relying on such little tricks to take down these many demons was unrealistic. The only option was to fight head-on.

Batman led a squad of the earlier assembled army of miners towards the camp. He aimed to divide the large frantic crowd into two by charging at the front gate. After that, the flank units followed up, further broke them down into smaller pieces, and then circling them again.

Even without a commander, the demon soldiers could still fight back thanks to their significant strength. There were splashes of swords and blood everywhere. Peroonally facing off with the demon soldiers, Batman found that a third of the demons in his squad fell the moment he clashed with them.

These weak slave mineworkers were not capable of fighting against the superior demons who had undergone intensive training.

A heavy-armored demon smashed his fist onto the head of a shuttle snake demon, turning the upper half of the latter into a bloody mess. Swinging his fist again, he flung the mud monster off his arm onto the ground and crushed it underfoot. The blood splattered onto Batman's cape, making him feel faint.

Batman had never felt faint at the sight of blood before.

Now, he realized that the brutality and bloodshed brought about by a full-scale war far exceeded any street or alleyway fight. In the midst of this meat grinder battle, no rookie who set foot on the battlefield for the first time could stay calm, including Batman.

Head-on battles provided no room for fancy tricks; every punch and every slash aimed straight for the flesh.

Batman realized that in such a war, his power was minimal.

True, he could use tactical maneuvers to counter a medium-sized demon—one considered almost impossible considering the power ranking within hell because even medium-sized demons stood at least two meters taller than humans.

Batman could employ various tactics to distract the enemy and then attack their weak spot.

But what about after that?

Batman, bloodied all over, pulled his hand armor out from a demon soldier's heart, panting heavily to regain his lost energy as fast as he could.

This was the second demon he had killed, but killing even twenty wouldn't give an advantage to the front line as the melee was still locked up in a stalemate.

Batman shook his head, trying hard to calm down, and then shouted, "Open a gap on the right flank! Don't move forward anymore, let them go!"

The command was passed down, turning the encircling position into a wider flank. The formation gradually extended towards the east side, with the miners leading the demon soldiers from the centre towards the east.

Batman began to sweat. He felt his heart pounding at a pace he had never experienced before. He knew the changes in the battlefield would determine the outcome of the battle.
