Twyla bolted up.
"What's wrong?" Bastian demanded, also waking up immediately.
"I… I… Where is it?"
"What?"
"I was almost there…" Twyla trailed off. She couldn't remember what she was trying to find or get to.
"Were you having a nightmare?"
"Maybe. But it wasn't scary," Twyla said. Bastian rubbed her back while she tried to pull herself together. "Wait. Morpheus."
Her familiar's ears pricked up.
"Yes," Bastian smiled.
"We got a name!" Twyla leapt onto Morpheus and he howled. They roughhoused on the bed while Bastian chuckled.
Morpheus had grown in the night. He was much larger than Twyla now. Definitely big enough to ride. Twyla ruffled his pointy ears. They stayed up now, like little flags. The pink inside was still there and it reminded Twyla of when Morpheus was a puppy. She tickled his eyes and he sneezed. His head shook violently side to side. The blast sent Twyla flying off the bed.
