Layla's POV
"Since when did you manage to catch his attention?" I teased.
"Oh shut it. I hate that guy and I'm not here to talk about who flirts with who." Maia snarled, clearly unamazed.
"Are you serious in beating the shit out of me?" I pouted. "I just got back from the dead."
"No." Maia massaged her temple and enclosed me into a tight hug. "When are you going to stop worrying me?"
I giggled at her and hugged her back. "How about the rabbits?"
"They're fine after I tended them."
"And the squirrel?"
"She's been well taken care of." Maia said. "That guy tended her."
"Who? Rahla?"
"Yeah. He's obnoxious but quite useful. So I indulge him in helping me out." Maia let go of me. "Let's head back inside. I bothered to prepare you something to eat."
"Oh I'm famish." I followed her behind. "But Rahla appeared to be smitten by you."
"The only thing I want to do with him is smite his grin off his face." Maia growled.
"What could have happen between the two of you to make you so work up like this?"
"Don't ask. I'm tired as it is and that guy stresses me out."
"Fine. But I think you'll be seeing him around the school." I teased which made her groaned in frustration.
"Can you stop talking about him please?"
"Ooh, now I'm curious why are you disliking someone you just met." I sat at the couch in the living room while Maia went to the kitchen and prepared the food for me to eat. Whenever she came into my place, she would assumed the position of my guardian and take care of me like a family would.
"Eat and stop pestering me." Maia placed fried eggs and spicy chicken wings.
"You know how to distress me." I just love anything spicy paired with Maia's delicious lemonade. I know it was still dawn but my friend's lemonade was something you can't resist anytime of the day. "And mind you, I'm not pestering you. You're acting weird actually."
Maia heaved a deep sigh and plopped beside me. I offered one wing to her which she snatched from my hand and made a bite from it.
"Come on, tell me." I nudged on her shoulder which made her heaved a deep sigh again. Her eyes indicated that she prepared herself to talk.
"Let's do this. You tell me what's going on with you while I share what we did at the circlet of genus." I negotiated.
"Rahla claimed me to be his mate."
"A what?"
"You heard me right." Maia grudgingly put down the unfinished chicken wing on the plate. she reached for the lemonade and helped herself with it as if it could take away her current problem right now.
"Does Spencer know about this?" I asked
"Not yet."
"Or you can ignore this mating shit for all you care."
"You know I can't do that."
"You can if you will it to yourself."
"You don't understand, Layla." Maia crossed in. "It wouldn't take long before the wolf in me would respond to his calling."
"How about Spencer then?" I demanded. "Are you willing to break up with your boyfriend just because some wolf you barely met properly claimed you to be his?"
Maia bit her lower lip, looking defeated already. "I'll discuss this matter with Spence."
"I'm pretty sure he won't let you go."
"There will be a fight."
"That's expected. Spencer is our pack's hunter and warrior. I'm sure he'll win the fight with that Rahla guy." I assured.
"You think he'll fight for me?"
"Without a doubt." I enclosed her with my arms.
"Oh I wish I'm stubborn as you. You just know how to stand for yourself." Maia muttered.
"You already know why I hate this law of selection. I can't let anyone I love to be a servant over it." I patted her back.
"Enough talking about this blasted mating thing." Maia wiped the tears that escaped her eyes.
I let her go from my hug when she gently pulled away from me.
"This chicken is superb by the way." I complimented and continued on feasting on the food. I didn't even bother using the fork that Maia placed beside the plate.
"Why did Hunter brought you out there?" Maia asked. "And how did the two of you survived the lake known to drown people?"
"Beats me. I woke up half submerged into the water."
"No, you didn't."
"I did."
"Oh my gosh. Is it true then about the legends? Were there any sirens?"
"I didn't see anything funny really. Just tall tress and waters. Hunter confirmed the legends ware true but he's not scared of them all." I shrugged.
"What the hell. Even chief is said to avoid the area. Who can scare such a man then if not that horrifying lake?"
"I don't know. Maybe the legends were either just overrated or Hunter was mad wolf that can scare the sirens in the lake. Choose a pick."
"Just think what will happen to you if he ever discovered that you're tricking him." Maia just love to hypothesized on things including the situation I was in.
"My head will fly miles away from my body with that scythe of his. Still frighten me shitless just by recalling him wield it to the orcs." the hairs on my nape stood up in goosebumps.
"I actually had a light reading about the kind of werewolf who's also a skillful spell caster." Maia said.
"You mean he's a magician?"
Maia laughed at that.
"What? If he's not then what should I call him?"
"More like a manipulator. I suspected he's from the Lythria, a nomad clan. They were the last descendants of the Elven tribe once inhabited the middle earth before they cross to the other world."
"Wow. Lots of information there."
"I read when I'm stressed and I came to encounter an interesting read."
"Give me this book then. I need to learn about this clan where he came from."
"It's only a suspicion. I'm still not sure about his real origin."
"Tell me one kind of werewolf who can conjure weapon like that. Because I've never meet one until that hunt."
"Well, in the history of Lycanthropy, only the Lythria can. They're extremely strong warriors too. Though they love peace but they won't bat an eyelash in a fight. Almost unmerciful in the battleground."
