Chapter 28 - Sakayanagi Arisu!
"I lost."
As Honda Ban uttered those two reluctant words, everyone looked at Yuto, who had a refreshing smile on his face, in surprise. They hadn't expected this junior to actually win!
"Then, senpai, it's time to pay the points," Yuto said with a smile, handing over his student terminal.
Honda Ban didn't renege or play dirty; he looked deeply at Yuto and then, with great heartache, transferred 850,000 private points to Yuto's balance.
At that moment, Yuto's private points balance soared to — 1.7 million!
Yuto looked satisfied as he checked the points on his student terminal.
With a sharp look, Honda Ban said solemnly, "Shimizu Yuto, I admit I underestimated you. After all, thinking about it now, one wouldn't dare to challenge others without real skills."
"Hehe," Yuto chuckled.
"I still have more points, so I propose another game!" Honda Ban said gravely. He had been careless initially, not taking Yuto seriously, which led to his casual moves at the start of the game.
When Honda Ban realized Yuto was no amateur and got serious, the situation was already too dire to turn around, leading to his defeat.
Now, Honda Ban wanted to continue playing against Yuto, treating him as an equal opponent from the start!
"Oh?" Yuto raised an eyebrow at the senpai sitting opposite him and said with a smile, "Okay."
"But senpai, I plan to bet 1.7 million points next. Do you accept the bet?"
"1.7 million points!"
The onlookers gasped at the huge stakes.
Originally, Honda Ban had over 3.1 million private points.
Having lost 850,000 points to Yuto, he was left with 2,257,000 private points, enough to cover Yuto's proposed 1.7 million points bet.
Yuto came to challenge the upperclassmen for the same reason as them... well, to shake things up, or rather, to earn private points.
Now that Honda Ban still had over two million points in his balance, Yuto naturally intended to extract as many points as he could from this senpai!
After all... Yuto wasn't exactly the good guy here.
Honda Ban, with fierce determination, looked at the smiling Yuto across from him.
He knew he had to accept the boy's offer since his reputation as the president of the chess club was on the line.
As the president, he could accept defeat but absolutely no cowardice.
Taking a deep breath, he declared, "I accept your 1.7 million private points bet!"
Honda Ban reluctantly agreed to Yuto's challenge. He refused to believe that he would lose when he played seriously.
Honda Ban had plenty of private points, so he felt no pressure accepting the bet, even with the risk of losing.
So why not gamble!
As the Chess Club's door was left open, a delicate figure stepped inside just as Yuto and Honda Ban were signing their second contract.
The one who came in was an extremely cute girl.
The girl had silver-white hair that hung down her back, giving her an ethereal, almost otherworldly beauty.
She wore a soft beret atop her head and the school's uniform adorned her slender figure, with a white pleated skirt and pure white stockings beneath.
However, the girl held a slender cane, suggesting she had mobility issues, invoking pity in others.
Sakayanagi Arisu, leaning on her cane, looked puzzled at the crowd of Chess Club members.
She, like Yuto, had come to the upperclassmen's clubs to earn points.
Sakayanagi Arisu, like her father, Chairman Sakayanagi, had a special love for chess and was also very skilled at it, so she came directly to the Chess Club.
As the Chess Club members were all gathered around Shimizu Yuto and Honda Ban, Sakayanagi Arisu couldn't see the situation inside.
And the frail Sakayanagi Arisu didn't want to push through the crowd, so she asked a female senpai, "Excuse me, what's happening?"
The female upperclassman was also curious about Sakayanagi Arisu, a stranger.
Despite this, Arisu's sweet and cute appearance encouraged the upperclassman to share recent events.
'A first-year student from Class D, Shimizu Yuto... This person was called to the Chairman's office before.'
Sakayanagi Arisu had some recollection of the name 'Shimizu Yuto', but she was more curious about how he managed to win against the club president Honda Ban in a chess match.
'Betting 1.7 million private points as a wager, this Shimizu Yuto is unexpectedly bold.'
At that moment, Sakayanagi Arisu was filled with curiosity and interest towards Yuto.
She wanted to witness the upcoming match between Yuto and Honda Ban, but they were surrounded by upperclassmen, making it impossible for her to see.
Anxiously, Sakayanagi Arisu tapped her cane... in frustration.
…
About twenty minutes later, Honda Ban, with a look of defeat, stared blankly at the chessboard where he was once again checkmated.
He had been fully focused this time from the start but still lost...
He lost miserably, unable to find any excuse for his defeat.
The audience was silent; their strongest player, the president, had lost again...
As Honda Ban was questioning his life choices, he saw a student terminal in front of him.
"Senpai, please pay the points, a total of 1.7 million private points."
Honda Ban looked up at the smiling Yuto, twitched his mouth, and with a great sense of loss, transferred 1.7 million points from his balance to Yuto's account.
Looking at his now diminished balance with just over 500,000 private points, Honda Ban, grinding his teeth, said to the still-smiling Yuto, "Shimizu! One more game!"
"Sure," Yuto naturally welcomed Honda Ban's challenge, saying with a smile, "But before our next game, senpai, please gather the points."
"I now have 3.4 million points. You and everyone else can chip in."
Meaning, Yuto's stake for the next wager still remained his entire balance—3.4 million points!
Honda Ban instinctively looked at his club members, knowing they had quite a lot of points in their balance.
Faced with Honda Ban's gaze, the chess club members immediately stepped back, looking around as if they hadn't heard the conversation between Yuto and Honda Ban.
What a joke!
Their strongest player, President Honda Ban, had already been defeated twice.
How could they lend their points to him to continue betting against Yuto!
Were they supposed to think that they had too many points to lose?
The first game, they could argue that Honda Ban was careless, not taking Yuto seriously, leading to an unfortunate defeat.
But the second game, they all knew Honda Ban was fully focused... so he truly couldn't beat Shimizu Yuto, the freshman from Class D.
