Jessica raised a brow, unfazed by his coldness. "Really? We used to date back in the day," she said with a smirk. "Didn't you once tell me that I looked like someone you loved? And if you couldn't have her, you would marry me instead?"

Evander's jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing. "Miss Jessica," he said through gritted teeth as he patted Eliam gently, "do not put words in my mouth. I do not want my wife to misunderstand my relationship with you, and let me make something perfectly clear— it was you who followed me around and irritated me with your unwanted attention."
