Killian merely raised a brow and didn't bother to explain his absence. Iris had no idea he'd always been nearby, watching over her from a distance. Even if it meant sacrificing his own happiness and risking Iris's misunderstanding, he had made a silent promise to protect her. 

"A sniveling vermin. Did he really think a piece of the relic was enough to destroy me and the dark abyss?" Iris wrinkled her nose in disgust. "He's probably looking for the other pieces too, Killian."
