And that strong reason related to the safety of their own mates.

Moreover, it was impossible for the vampires to form mate bonds. Therefore, she could not have possibly formed a mate bond with the vampire in front of everyone. That is, unless he deceived everyone else and created an illusion of mate bond formation between him and herself.
