"Are we leaving now?" Wu Zhitian asked.
"Mn," Yu Xuelan gazed out the window, noticing the loud commotion had slowly died out.
"Oh right, the boy asked me to give you these."
Wu Zhitian stared at the bag and glanced back at the girl, darting his eyes back and forth between the two.
"Hm? Master, you don't want them?" Yu Xuelan asked.
He shook his head and Yu Xuelan's eyes lit up. Wu Zhitian already knew that even if he took the red bean buns, Yu Xuelan would probably eat all of them herself in the end.
While she was happily eating the buns, Yu Xuelan remembered there was still something she needed to do.
"Master Wu, there's somewhere I need to go quickly, is that alright?" She asked and Wu Zhitian responded with a nod.
...
To her expectations, the hill was compiled with nothing but old trash and the more she wandered closer; the junk reeked of an even more pungent scent.
She ignored the smell and searched around the area while Wu Zhitian watched her silently. After looking with no results, she walked in further and passed the junkyard, and there, she saw two big rocks placed upon one another.
Yu Xuelan crouched down and reached towards the two rocks but instantly jolted from a sharp stabbing pain in her chest. The boy who stood afar couldn't help but fill his heart with worry and rushed to Yu Xuelan's side, crouching down to check on her.
"I'm fine," she chuckled.
Although Yu Xuelan smiled to reassure Wu Zhitian, he tightened his lips and stood back up with a rather perplexed expression smeared across his face.
She knew it was the effects of the commandment note, but of course, she couldn't tell Wu Zhitian this, so she instantly brushed off the pain. The girl touched the rocks, only to be responded with a rush of disappointment.
I thought the resentment energy would be directed towards their mother since she was the one who sold Lin Yuhe off, but if that was true, it would've been quite troublesome considering she was already dead.
I might have had to hunt her soul across both the mortal world and the demonic realm.
Yu Xuelan sighed, "Sorry for the wait Master Wu, we can go now."
Luckily the commandment note wasn't fluttering, but sadly, Yu Xuelan had now lost quite a lot of clues. That Lin Changying and her mother were off the list and she had dealt with the people involved with the causes of her slavery.
Though maybe she was missing something important once again, but she was sure she did not miss any hints. There may have been more people involved with the slavery incident, but the only clue she had was Lin Changying.
Yu Xuelan glanced at Wu Zhitian and saw that he was slightly frowning. However, she was in too deep of thought to cloud her mind about other matters.
They commenced their trip to Hufeng, but she noticed they were walking at a slower pace than usual and that Wu Zhitian kept glancing back at her.
Yu Xuelan smiled, feeling rather touched by his concern, but sped up their pace, "Are you sure we'll get to Hufeng City by tonight?"
He nodded.
"The festival better be worth all of this walking. My legs are going to snap soon!"
...
They walked further and further away from the village and chatted about small things, though it was mainly Yu Xuelan doing all the ramblings, yet it seemed to bring peace to the two until they were interrupted by a sudden call.
"Yuhe!" a familiar voice called out and Xuelan turned around only to see that it was Lin Changying.
"What's wrong?" Yu Xuelan asked while Lin Changying tried to catch her breath.
"Thank, thank..."
Yu Xuelan stepped towards the panting girl and lifted her back up as her movements still staggered from running.
"Thank you so much."
Yu Xuelan remained silent, staring at her with an inscrutable expression before her lips curled up. "It's fine! Really!"
The black-clad girl lowered her eyes and examined the appearance of her sister, noticing her clothes were stained with dirt.
"What happened?"
"Oh, it's nothing, the villagers just got mad."
Yu Xuelan grabbed a handkerchief and cleaned her face, which made Lin Changying flinch back and push the hand away.
"Please, I don't want to trouble you!" She denied it and cleaned her face with her own sleeves.
Yu Xuelan managed to maintain the smile on her face, ensuring that it never deserted her lips while glancing at her hand that got smacked once again.
"What are you going to do now?" Yu Xuelan asked.
"I'll, I'll have to go somewhere else. Find a job maybe."
"Where are you thinking of heading?"
"I'll probably go to Mojing City," Lin Changying replied.
"Mojing? Then you'll pass by Hufeng! We can go together!" Yu Xuelan beamed in excitement, leading Lin Changying's eyes to widen.
"I,I... I..."
"Hm? What's wrong now?"
"Is it really alright?" She said as she fiddled with her fingers.
"Yes! The more company, the better!" She grabbed ahold of Lin Changying's hand and leaned in closer, whispering, "And I'll have someone to talk to besides him."
She laughed and pointed to the white-clothed man who glanced over in suspicion.
Lin Changying flinched upon seeing him and instantly averted his eyes.
"Yuhe, why are you being so kind to someone like me?"
Lin Changying examined closely at her sister, who smiled at her warmly. A brush of relief filled Lin Changying's mind as she thought her twin sister was still innocent and naïve.
When Lin Changying heard her sister speak after many years, she thought her sister's entire personality had changed, yet it was only speech. Despite this, she realised the gentleness of her sister appeared to evoke a sort of confusion whether it was actually genuine or she was only mocking the other party.
Yu Xuelan laughed in her mind since she thought the one who was being naïve was not her but Lin Changying herself. She was amused by the incongruity of Lin Changying's pure and serene words, though perhaps it was because Yu Xuelan found it difficult to trust anyone in general.
"Don't worry about it!" Yu Xuelan patted the girl's back to comfort her.
Tears rolled down Lin Changying's eyes as she buried her face in Yu Xuelan's shoulder.
"I... I'm so sorry. And thank you."
Yu Xuelan, "....."
Yu Xuelan continued to clothe her face with a gentle, beguiling smile, but her lips twitched at the sudden hug, feeling relatively uncomfortable by the sudden contact.
She hugged her back and whispered in her ear, "Sister, I am so glad you are here."
Lin Changying flinched at her warm remarks, yet it didn't seem like Yu Xuelan's gentleness had warmed her. Instead, her face instantly grew pale, like her sister's words washed over her with a waterfall of ice.
She stepped back, breaking away from the tight hug, and saw Yu Xuelan still smiling innocently, yet she felt an indescribable impression arise within her.
