Bab 36: Dammit, I Lost It Again
"I'm going to head to the restroom outside. Please excuse me," Lin Changying informed and head to the back of the teahouse.
"Alright."
Yu Xuelan looked over to Wu Zhitian, who was holding his cup with both hands like a little child, blowing on the tea with puckered lips.
She thought that despite his icy demeanour, he still had some same traits from the past. Smiling, she thought "I'm glad he hasn't changed completely."
Wu Zhitian noticed the girl looking at him and their eyes met briefly once again. Yu Xuelan tilted her head, offering an eye closed smile like a mother watching their son eating. Now that she knew he found out about her identity, her actions were bolder and she even wanted to tease him.
He instantly shunted her gaze and continued blowing on his tea. She pouted and grabbed her cup, bringing it towards her lips.
Who knew, that the boy's ears were flushed in a light shade of pink.
"Wu Zhitian," Yu Xuelan called out.
He immediately turned his head around and his gaze glued onto her. This was the first time. It was the first time Yu Xuelan had called his name. Although she had only just said his name, he felt a thousand detonations erupt in his blurred mind.
Yu Xuelan laughed and repeated, "Wu Zhitan, Wu Zhitian, Wu Zhitian."
Wu Zhitian furrowed his brows and chugged all the tea in his cup in one go from embarrassment, completely averting his eyes from hers.
"He gets embarrassed if I just say his name! Ahahaha," she thought.
"Wu-"
Before Yu Xuelan could tease him again, Wu Zhitian lowered his cup, turned his head around and leaned in, saying softly.
"Yu Xuelan."
Yu Xuelan jolted back stared at the man in surprise.
"Wha, what," she stuttered, "Is this what you call revenge?"
Now this time, it was the girl whose face had heated up and she continued shoving food down her throat. It was amusing because she had repeated his name so many times but to hear him call her once, she had already lost it.
…
Just as the two were getting comfortable inside the restaurant, Yu Xuelan rummaged through her sleeves and muttered, "What's taking Lin Changying so long?"
Her eyes widened and felt her heart stop. The more she searched through her sleeves, the more her face grew pale.
"My..."
"My commandment note is gone again!"
Wu Zhitian turned around and looked at the panicking girl. Yu Xuelan wanted to hit her head against a wall from her stupidity once again. Maybe eight years of sleeping really made her lose a large chunk of brain cells.
She laughed in distress, "This is the second time I lost my commandment note..."
"Lin Changying," Wu Zhitian said.
"Lin Changying?"
Yu Xuelan rubbed her chin as she stared at the restroom, remembering that the girl took her outer robe when they were in the teahouse and commented that her sleeves were filled with rubbish.
She searched the table and ground thoroughly but to her disappointment, there was no sign of her burnt note. She stood back up and furrowed her brows, thinking if it got caught along with the wind.
However, she remembered seeing Lin Changying slip the 'rubbish' into her pockets and she couldn't have thrown it away since there were no bins on the way to the restroom.
"I'm going to go in to look for Lin Changying. She's taking quite a long time," Yu Xuelan informed.
She glanced at Zhitian and noticed he had a salty expression but she didn't know why.
"I'll go with you."
Yu Xuelan glanced at the table, "But the food..."
"I paid."
She widened her mouth in shock and immediately saw her debt piling all the way up to the sky.
"Wait, wasn't Changying treating? Oh, that's not important right now, let's go."

Yu Xuelan walked into the restroom while Wu Zhitian stayed outside. She walked past every cubicle and slammed the doors open, but to her surprise, there was no one there. The whole place was completely empty.
Her heart tightened and she mumbled in thought, "Where did she go?"
She walked back out and informed the white-clad cultivator, "I need to go find Lin Changying, I think she might have that note."
After all, without the commandment note, she wouldn't know who the last person Lin Yuhe contracted her to get rid of! Was she really just going to go accept her fate and go through the eighteen levels of hell?
"What was wrong with that girl?" A man retorted.
"Maybe she had a fight with her lover or something!" His friend added.
The two looked back to the front and saw Yu Xuelan staring at them.
"What the heck, didn't she just run over there?" They whispered in confusion.
"Whatever, let's just go."
Hearing their conversation, Yu Xuelan knew they were talking about Lin Changying. As a matter of fact, the girl was behaving strangely tonight, but she couldn't pinpoint the exact reason.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she felt Wu Zhitian tug on her robe lightly.
"Come."
Puzzled, Yu Xuelan tilted her head but followed the boy who walked off from the crowded streets and into a more isolated area.
Suddenly, she lashed her head back as she felt a lurking presence, a wave of demonic energy, though it disappeared after a while, coming and going like the inconsistent tides of the sea.
"Sect Master Wu, did you feel that?" She asked and saw the boy looking in the same direction as her.
He nodded and then stared at the girl in silence.
"Hm? What's wrong?"
Wu Zhitian continued staring in silence and bit his inner lip, though no one could tell of course.
"You don't need to call me that..." He mumbled, but since Yu Xuelan's ears were sharp, she could easily pick up on his words.
She was about to ask, "Wouldn't that be disrespectful?" But then she remembered she was blurting his name out like a lunatic with zero respect for his status back in the restaurant.
"Alright."
Wu Zhitian smiled and the girl felt her heart skip, instantly turning her head around."The mountain."
"Ah, did it come from the mountain?" She asked, trying to distract her mind. However, she honestly wanted to see his smile longer.
"Mn."
That was where the Earth Demon God's lair was, so it was to be expected that whiffs of demonic energy would pass by here. Yet this made her even more worried.
More worried about where her commandment note went.
Wu Zhitian brought his fingers to his mouth and whistled, summoning a small white bird to fly into his palm. He pressed his finger onto its forehead, emitting a small light before he released it and it flew off into the sky.
"She's still alive," Wu Zhitian reassured.
There was a possibility she could have died?! I thought she just ran away!
Wu Zhitian whistled again but this time a whole flock of birds came flying, surrounding the two. He crouched down to the small bird in front of him and started conversing with them all. Well, it was mainly the birds doing all the chirping and him nodding.
"They said she was behaving strangely after she ran away from the restroom."
"Behaving strangely?" Yu Xuelan repeated, feeling quite dismayed about the situation.
The small bird continued to chirp and Wu Zhitian answered with a few nods.
"They said she began talking to herself and walked off to the remote area over there and vanished into thin air after that," he said and pointed over to the mountain.
"That's... Where the Earth Demon God's lair is," Yu Xuelan said unsurprisingly, "Wait was she hallucinating? That is a highly skilled technique."
The birds continued to chirp even more like they had so many things to tell him.
"What did they say?"
"They said she kept apologizing and shaking from fear like someone was chasing after her even though no one was there."
Yu Xuelan lowered her eyes and was somewhat apologetic. She knew Changying was indeed quite questionable at times but feeding her to the demon gods would be too extreme of a punishment. That was something Yu Mingling probably would've done to punish those who misbehaved.
Wu Zhitian noticed the girl's sunken eyes and assured, "Don't worry, I sent a bird to where Lin Changying is. If she's dead then the spiritual connection will be lost."
Yu Xuelan sighed, "I really don't want to get involved with the Earth Demon God..."
"You can stay here, I'll go get her and the note back," he said, preparing to walk off, however, he was stopped when the girl grabbed his wrist.
"Wait, I'm coming as well. I'll get bored by myself!"
