The new combination was called the 'Explorer', it was only half the size of the Protector. It had an oval-shaped body covered in a thin layer of armor, with many small holes on its shell for breathing in oxygen. Its head had two eyeballs and lantern tentacles for illumination, while its body had a small heart and blood vessel structure.
Around its body were a total of eight carapace-covered appendages. Lin had added joints similar to those of the round shield worms on these appendages, as well as muscles that filled the appendages, allowing it to move quickly.
The purpose of the 'Explorer' combination wasn't to hunt or kill enemies, but to explore the world beyond the water!
Lin loved exploring unknown areas, ever since she accidentally arrived at the water's surface the last time, she had always wanted to do so, and after successfully creating the carapace, this idea could finally be realized.
Lin didn't come here during the day, instead choosing the safer night. Although she had the carapace, Lin didn't know if it could resist the ultraviolet rays without water.
The Explorer set off, quickly climbing up the slope. This place was mostly made of broken rocks, so it was very easy for the Explorer to walk.
The water's surface was still very high up in the night, so it couldn't be seen. But the lantern Lin made for the Explorer was a bit different. Lin made the light orbs not glow all over their bodies, instead, she gathered all the glowing parts to one side and pointed them in a certain direction to form a lantern. Then, she covered both sides of the lantern with shells, this way, the light they emitted would be able to reach further. As long as she raised the tentacles, she would be able to see the water's surface.
As the Explorer moved up the slope, the water's surface became lower and lower, the surrounding environment also changed from broken rocks to small yellow sand grains. This was the first time Lin had seen sand grains of this color.
The Explorer quickly approached — — the boundary between the water's surface and the ground.
As long as Lin made it past that point, she would be able to leave the water and step into the realm of air.
There was a feeling called 'excitement'.
It was as if leaving the water was a very important matter, which was why she felt this way.
Lin didn't think so, she thought that this was just an exploration of a new area. Lin didn't intend to go up, she was only doing this to satisfy her 'curiosity'. But why did she feel this way? Lin didn't know.
In short, she just needed to keep doing it.
The Explorer's body slowly floated to the surface of the water with each step. Lin once again felt the feeling of nothingness that belonged to the domain of air. The radiance of the stars shone above this space, illuminating the path ahead for Lin.
This new world, which Lin called 'Land', didn't need a lantern, the light of the stars allowed it to see everything clearly.
The 'land' was a barren place. It was covered in yellowish-brown debris and sand. Apart from the occasional boulder, there was nothing else.
Ke Lin didn't stop.
The explorer took another step, and its limbs left the water along with its body, stepping into a new world.
Then, it fell.
After leaving the water, the gravitational force seemed to have become a lot stronger. It instantly pulled Lin's explorer to the ground, making it unable to move.
The armor that Lin had made was meant to deal with this, but it seemed that the muscles still needed to be adjusted.
With that thought in mind, it quickly repaired the muscles in its arthropods, allowing its cells to rapidly divide and strengthen until it was able to support its body on land with great gravity.
Under the rapid repair of its cells, the explorer quickly stood up again. This time, it wouldn't fall again.
The explorer moved its arthropods and walked towards this barren world …
On land, the cold air had replaced the flow of water. It was much faster than the flow of water. It blew up the sand on the ground and hit the explorer's outer shell. Lin had a word to describe it — — 'wind'.
Lin noticed that in this world, water was like gas in water, turning into tiny round particles. As soon as the wind blew past, it would carry away countless droplets of water. Under the endless blowing of the wind, the explorer's originally moist outer shell quickly became as dry as the sand beneath its feet.
Walking into this new world, Lin had learned a lot of new words, but it was starting to feel …
Very boring.
The explorer walked slowly on the land, but in its field of vision, there was nothing but endless yellow sand, and occasionally some huge rocks.
Other than that, there was nothing else. There were no multicellular organisms or unicellular organisms, only yellow sand and howling wind. Even though the starry sky was so beautiful, the land itself was so barren and empty.
Lin's initial curiosity and excitement towards land had almost completely disappeared. She wasn't in the mood to pay attention to the seemingly interesting new words and simply let the explorer continue forward step by step.
There were no living creatures here, which meant that there was no food. Lin even noticed a new problem. As the wind blew away the water on the explorer's outer shell, Lin could feel the water inside the explorer's body slowly flowing away.
The water flowed out from the holes or small cracks on the shell, then was turned into countless tiny droplets by the wind and disappeared without a trace.
Lin had always lived in water, but she had never experienced what it felt like to lose water.
But now she knew, it was a symbol of death.
Cells that lost water would instantly die, and the cracks on the shell would have to be repaired.
Underneath the explorer's shell was a large number of glandular cells, which could rapidly secrete chitin to repair the cracks. The shell that Lin originally made didn't cover everything, but now it seemed that it was going to cover everything.
Very quickly, Lin repaired all the cracks, leaving only two small holes for ventilation.
Lin knew why there were no other living creatures here, because they couldn't live without water.
And in this barren world, there was nothing that could attract other living creatures.
But Lin didn't give up. The explorer continued to move deeper into the land.
When she turned around, she couldn't see the sea anymore, but the scenery around her was still the same. There was nothing but sand and rocks, which reminded Lin of when she was young.
At the time, she also had a similar feeling, the feeling of 'there is nothing but water'.
The fat cells stored inside the explorer's body could allow her to travel for a very long time, but Lin was already doubting the meaning of this journey.
How boring.
In this monotonous environment, Lin turned her attention upwards. She noticed that the stars in the sky were slowly changing, the specks of light would sometimes slowly move, occasionally a ray of light would shoot through the sky at high speed, but most of the specks of light would remain still.
After reaching the land, Lin noticed that the stars were quite far away from her. Perhaps, she would need to swim through the air like she did in water in order to approach them.
That … was too difficult.
At this point, a different object appeared in front of the explorer.
A sand dune.
Sand dune was a common sight on underwater beaches, so Lin didn't pay much attention to it, but a sand dune on land should be able to provide Lin with a better view.
The explorer climbed up and looked into the distance from the top of the sand dune.
Sure enough, as far as the eye could see, there was still nothing but sand.
There was no point in coming to this place at all.
Lin didn't want to walk anymore, so she had the explorer lie down on the sand dune and looked up at the stars above.
Lin noticed that all the specks of light in the sky were moving, and as the stars changed, the light in the surroundings also changed.
Slowly, the surroundings became brighter, while the stars in the sky slowly disappeared.
They were all covered by the light of 'Day'.
Day had arrived.
When the surroundings were completely enveloped by the light of 'Day', Lin could feel the temperature of the air clearly rising. The intense ultraviolet light was penetrating the explorer's joints and pores, quickly destroying the cells inside its body.
As the light of 'Day' grew brighter, its ultraviolet light could even penetrate the explorer's outer shell, causing the cells inside to quickly die.
At the very next moment, the explorer died, and Lin's journey on land came to an end.
Let's go back …
The Aircraft Carrier on the shoal slowly turned around and swam deeper into the sea.
What a … meaningless journey.
