Perhaps because the contraction was mainly aimed at the 'Firechasers,' even after the last batch of 'Lightchasers' completed their 'cocooning,' the 'Shrinking Universe Observation Ships' at the border did not detect any signs of darkness approaching.

They didn't know if it was because their equipment wasn't sensitive enough to detect the tiny traces of 'shrinking.'
