Chapter 121: The Treasure Vault
After finding an opportunity to return Zihuo to his beast ring and making sure Qing Lin was settled, Mo Yu turned his attention to the Mo family's treasure vault.
Although the Mo family had collected various techniques, combat skills, and pills, Mo Yu wasn't interested in these, as he had no plans to establish his own faction. However, he was very much in need of mid-to-high-grade magic cores.
According to the plan he had discussed with the Ye family, Mo Yu was entitled to 40% of the Mo family's treasure vault. Even though he was only one person, no one in the Ye family objected. Everyone knew that the Ye family's ability to replace the Mo family was largely thanks to Mo Yu.
Led by Ye Fan, Mo Yu and Ye Cong made their way to the back mountain of the Mo family's estate.
After a short walk along the mountain path, they stopped at the entrance of a cave. From where they stood, they could see faint lights coming from inside. The stone walls around the cave were decorated with carvings of magical beasts, meant to look intimidating, but they had no effect on someone like Ye Fan.
Ye Fan, being the strongest among them with his Dou Ling level, led the group into the cave. He had expended little energy during his fight with Mo Cheng, so it made sense for him to go first, especially since they didn't know if there were any traps inside.
Inside the cave was a long stone staircase that descended into darkness, making it impossible to see the bottom. The stone walls were embedded with faintly glowing moonlight stones, which softly illuminated the cave and gradually dispelled the darkness.
The group carefully descended the stairs for about ten minutes before finally reaching the bottom, where a heavy, tightly sealed stone door stood before them.
The stone door was entirely black and covered in moss, giving off an ancient and imposing aura.
Seeing this, Ye Fan smiled slightly. He placed his dry hand on the stone door, and with a sudden flash of determination in his eyes, he unleashed a powerful surge of Dou Qi through his arm, striking the door with a thunderous impact.
"Boom!"
With a loud crash, the stone door cracked, and then it collapsed with a deafening noise. Bright light burst from the newly opened entrance.
As the intense light filled the cave, everyone instinctively squinted. Then Mo Yu's expression changed slightly, and he quickly shouted, "Old Master Ye, be careful!"
Just as Mo Yu's warning rang out, a foul wind rushed out from behind the stone door, aimed directly at Ye Fan, who was at the front.
"Hmph!"
The sudden attack didn't faze Ye Fan. He let out a cold snort, and with a flash of white light from his sword, a powerful wave of sword energy surged forward, cutting through the air with a sharp whistle.
"Bang!"
The sword energy struck the attacking figure, and a shrill cry echoed through the cave as the large figure was forcefully knocked back, crashing heavily to the ground.
After repelling the attacker with one strike, Ye Fan swung his Liuhe Taixu Sword again, clearing the dust and revealing the space beyond the stone door.
They found themselves standing before a spacious vault, brightly lit. The walls of the vault were made entirely of sturdy Mo Steel Stone, as if the vault had been carved directly out of a Mo Steel Stone mine.
The vault was filled with numerous shelves, neatly arranged with scrolls. In another section of the room were several crystal cabinets, containing various rare medicinal herbs carefully displayed.
As Mo Yu and the others surveyed the vault, their eyes fell on a massive wolf-shaped magical beast in the corner. It was clear that this creature had been the one that attacked them earlier.
What was strange about this beast was that its front half was a wolf, but its back half was a coiled snake tail, indicating that it had also undergone transplantation.
"A peak Dou Shi-level magical beast dares to attack me?" Ye Fan calmly walked into the vault, casting a glance at the bizarre creature, which was now coiled up and snarling at them.
"It must be the guardian of this place," Mo Yu commented, frowning slightly. The Mo family's obsession with experimenting on magical beasts was truly insane; they had even gone so far as to experiment on third-rank magical beasts, which must have required considerable effort.
Mo Yu only briefly glanced at the creature before turning his attention back to the vault. His eyes swept over the numerous scrolls, and he couldn't help but sneer, "For a faction that's been around for so many years, these collections aren't worth much."
"These have all been carefully organized and classified," Ye Fan said with a pleased smile as he approached a shelf labeled "Yellow Rank, Advanced."
For the Ye family, techniques and combat skills were highly valued as they were the foundation of any faction's strength. Now, the Mo family's decades of accumulated techniques were about to become the Ye family's property. If they could fully absorb the Mo family's techniques, the Ye family's strength could easily double.
"Patriarch Ye, I'm not interested in these techniques or combat skills. How about I exchange my share for magic cores instead?" Mo Yu suggested, pointing to a corner of the vault where various magic cores were piled up.
At the top of the pile was a deep red magic core, clearly a fourth-rank core.
After a brief moment of consideration, Ye Cong nodded. While magic cores were valuable, techniques and combat skills were more essential for the Ye family. Trading with Mo Yu was a fair deal.
Mo Yu nodded slightly and then walked deeper into the vault. Ordinary Xuan-rank techniques and combat skills didn't interest him; he was curious to see if the Mo family had anything truly extraordinary.
"Roar!"
As Mo Yu and the others began searching through the vault, the blue-furred wolf-snake creature coiled up and roared in anger. It lashed out with its snake tail, sending a powerful strike toward Mo Yu and the group.
"Slash!"
Before the creature could reach its target, a flash of white sword light cut through the air. Ye Fan casually swung his Liuhe Taixu Sword, and the blade's energy cleanly sliced through the creature's throat.
Mo Yu paid no attention to the creature's death, continuing his search deeper into the vault. Without realizing it, he had reached a bookshelf at the far end of the room.
Unlike the other shelves, this one was protected by a faint energy barrier. The strong energy emanating from within caught Mo Yu's attention, and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. Good things are always kept special, he thought to himself.
Instead of immediately trying to break through the barrier, Mo Yu carefully examined the area around the bookshelf. His gaze settled on a few simple words inscribed on the shelf:
"Transplantation Technique Manuscript!"
