Bab 779: The Darkest Plane (8)

One beast lunged at her from the left, its jaws snapping shut inches from her face. Arpious ducked under the attack, her scythe swinging upward in a powerful strike that sliced through the beast's chest. Blood sprayed from the wound as the creature fell, but Arpious had no time to celebrate. The second beast was already upon her, its claws raking across her side.

She gritted her teeth against the pain, her movements fluid and precise as she brought her scythe around in a wide arc. The blade cut through the beast's midsection, severing its spine and sending it crashing to the ground. Arpious took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the darkness for any more threats.
