Bab 14: Chapter 14 Stress Response

Klaus had received a message from Mais, informing him that his interview with the King was scheduled for seven o'clock in the morning, and he had only ten minutes. So Klaus woke up early, and when he left, the rabbit was still asleep in its bed.

When Klaus arrived at the King's office, he was informed by the King's secretary that the King had temporarily canceled the meeting. However, the King had asked his secretary to tell Klaus that he would accommodate Klaus's request as soon as possible.

Klaus knew that this wouldn't be an easy time to make his request to the King, and that he might have to be patient when it came to getting his pack back. Thankfully, though, the entire capital now knew that Klaus was married, and pictures of Dyson fighting him in the pub dominated today's headlines. Public opinion was currently in his favor, and it was only a matter of time before he got his pack back.

As Klaus walked out of the Royal Office Building, he received a phone call from Marx, informing him that something was wrong with Emily during a hospital check-up.

Dr. Stephen believed that Emily seemed to be having some sort of stress reaction to the blood test, and on the doctor's advice, it was best to have someone close to Emily by her side, otherwise she wouldn't be able to complete the blood test alone.

"You should stay with her," Marx suggested over the phone, "She's your Luna, after all."

"I'll be there in ten minutes," Klaus said, hanging up the phone and driving to the hospital.

When Klaus saw Emily, she looked at him with a gaze that shifted from surprise to reproach, ultimately turning her head to one side.

Klaus quickly deciphered the meaning in her eyes and sat down before her as he explained.

"I know you must be upset that I didn't tell you about this decision beforehand." Klaus whispered as gently as he could, "It's just a routine physical check-up, and I hope the doctor can help with your throat."

When Emily heard Klaus's last words, her eyes, which had been mournful, suddenly lit up.

Indeed, Emily began to write on the palm of her hand with her fingers. "Is it true?" she asked, looking at Klaus, her eyes filled with anticipation.

"Maybe." Klaus gave her a vague answer and continued to persuade her, "But you have to cooperate with the doctors and complete the blood test first, or else they won't be able to formulate a treatment plan for you."

"So, can you do it?"

Emily took a deep breath, and from the troubled expression in her eyes, it was evident that she was trying to convince herself.

Eventually, Emily nodded.

Emily returned to the room where the blood draw was to be performed, and Dr. Stephen advised Klaus to stay with her throughout the procedure to ensure it could be completed. Klaus, standing by Emily's side as the nurse was about to draw her blood, could distinctly feel her resistance to the drawing, and, though her eyes were deliberately turned to the other side, her shoulders trembled a little.

Still, she offered her arm bravely to the nurse, and her breathing became a little deeper and more rapid. Klaus placed one hand on Emily's shoulder, the other on the back of her head, and buried her face in his chest.

Presently, her breathing gradually returned to a steady level, and her clenched fists slowly opened.

After the blood was drawn, Dr. Stephen asked the nurse to take Emily back to the break room to rest. Then he suggested that Klaus follow him to his office.

In the doctor's office, Dr. Stephen sat behind his desk, turning on his computer and reviewing Emily's examination report.

"I examined Emily's throat and found obvious burn marks, which is why she couldn't speak," he said to Klaus.

By the time Emily arrived at the hospital, Klaus had informed Dr. Stephen of her condition. Stephen, Klaus, and Stephen have been friends for many years. Stephen was not only a skilled physician, but also a good secret-keeper.

"Can you heal her throat?" Klaus asked bluntly.

"As long as she cooperates with the treatment, I'm sure I can heal her throat," Stephen replied.

On receiving Stephen's affirmative answer, Klaus's apprehensions were considerably relieved, and he posed another question that had been troubling him.

"Why is her wound healing so poorly?"

"We won't be able to diagnose that issue until the results of the blood test report are available," Stephen said, glancing up at his watch. "It's going to take about twenty minutes."

"During my contact with Emily, I noticed that she was very reluctant to have her blood drawn. That's a stress reaction. Maybe something bad happened to her before, and it has something to do with blood draws."

"I didn't know anything about her before," Klaus replied truthfully.

"Then you should pay more attention to your Luna," Dr. Stephen pushed the rim of his glasses frame with his thumb. "Spend as much time with her as you can, or let her vent her emotions through painting."

"Are you sure this is professional advice from a doctor?"

"Don't question my area of expertise," Stephen looked at Klaus earnestly. "As a friend, I want you to take good care of your wife."

"I will," Klaus said sincerely, "perhaps."

At that moment, the printer on Stephen's desk made a mechanical noise, and a paper report emerged from its slot.

Stephen took the paper report and examined it for a long time, his face becoming grave.

"The blood test report results are in..." Stephen paused.

"What does the report say?" Klaus sensed something in Stephen's expression that did not bode well.

"Emily has a significant amount of aconite venom in her blood," Stephen said in a low voice. "That's why her ability to heal herself is worse than that of a normal werewolf, but even worse, she can't shift into her wolf form because of it."

"What?" Klaus was shocked. "You mean, she can't turn into a wolf?"
