(Mael's POV)
Traveling hundreds of kilometers from the Burgdandy City of Dijon to Rouen, few things started to revolve in my head.
Who I really am?
Previously, I didn't question my own identity since my life was going well but after fighting with two devils, I knew that I may not be just a simple human with some supernatural ability.
My right hand that was crushed during the fight, started to heal at an incredible rate. Although it was still sour, I could at least move it.
My stamina reserve was increased and I hardly started to run out of stamina. The weight I was facing had been decreased.
I felt a lot stronger and healthier than before.
It was like I became a totally different human being or I wonder if I was even a human.
If Jeanne was the one chosen to be an oracle, why could I see angels and no other humans? Although Eliza had once appeared before Jeanne's parents, she was in human form as she was not allowed to contract with humans besides the one she was permitted for.
Who is Eliza to me? Why does she look so much familiar?
And the most important question, why did they hide Jeanne's demise?
I knew that Eliza can predict the future but thinking back, it was more of seeing prophecy rather than simply predicting the future.
There is a difference between the two. Prediction is all about joining dots to make possible outcomes whereas prophecy is the prediction of two events.
It does mean only one thing. I was ignorant. I didn't consider the probabilities of supernatural intervention with my life and never really prepared myself for it but involved myself in the politics of a country whose king was a coward.
However, I didn't have time to grieve as I had to save Jeanne no matter the cause.
After weeks of traveling and avoiding British surveillance, I finally came to Rouen.
However, the sight shattered all my plans.
Jeanne was on tiled on a platform of dry woods holding a cross praying to God.
"Jaaannee!"
I lost every bit of sanity as I ran towards her.
"Capture him!"
"Don't let him come close!!"
Soldiers and guards leaped to capture me but I was fast as beat them in no time before resuming my run towards Jeanne.
This can't be happening! This shouldn't happen!!
My mind was only thinking about saving Jeanne.
One after another, I beat all the guards without even caring about arrows that pierced my body or the cuts of swords that pealed my skin.
In my eyes were tears and prayers in my heart to save Jeanne at any cost.
In the end, I was captured by British soldiers.
My eyes were in tears as I looked at Jeanne and begged English officials to forgive Jeanne but it went in vain.
After a while, a single aged man came forward and asked, "Mr. Mael, my name is Pierre Cauchon. As a French bishop, I respect your dedication towards Ms. Jeanne but tell me something, is this the dedication of respect or that witch simply bewitched you like other men?"
"Let me go you boot licking scum! Don't call yourself a bishop where all you do is lick the English king's ass. And don't call her witch! I am telling you, you all are doing a mistake!!" I yelled loudly.
My voice was so loud as if a layer of wave surged right through everyone's soul as they took a step back in fear.
I didn't know how I get this power but I didn't care.
Jeanne also looked at me with tears in her eyes. I couldn't hear her from distance but I could tell that she was calling my name.
Pierre was French also taken back when I cursed all of them. I also knew about him as he was the sole perpetrator of Jeanne's execution. He was a French Priest like me but he was one of few French who wanted to kill Jeanne for being a witch.
"Cheh! Burn her!" Pierre clicked his tongue and ordered his guard to fire the woods.
"NOOOO-" I tried to scream but a guard blocked my mouth.
'Stop it please! Stop it please! Stop it please! Stop it please! Stop it please!'
I begged them with my eyes to stop but they didn't pay any attention and put Jeanne on fire.
There I saw my one and only love being burned alive….
She had tears in her eyes and her eyes were asking me to move on…
'My son….'
Then I heard a voice in my head.
'Eliza!'
I looked above and saw a white beautiful dove flying right above Jeanne.
This time all the people witnessed the miracle as they all saw the beautiful bird roaming around the burning girl. The dove shined brightly blinding all the people in the avenue but me.
Two hands hugged Jeanne as she was on fire. It was indeed Eliza but she was in a state that shot an eerie pain in my heart. Numerous wounds were paled on her body and skin also hanging from her body.
'My son… Please forgive mommy and don't bear hatred for these humans. Don't blame anyone but me, my child.'
So she was my mother the whole time.
'I won't let this fire touch her so be at ease.'
I then saw Eliza rising in the sky hugging Jeanne's soul. Jeanne was in her arms while Eliza was fading in particles.
She had tears in her eyes and looked at me with warmth.
'Mael, my sweet child, forgive your mother for being weak and not able to protect you and grant you the life you had wished for.' She smiled with warmness.
The plead was filled with sadness and sorrow that peeled my heart.
'From now on, follow God without any remorse in your heart and accept your identity. I may be leaving your side for now but I promise that you will meet Jeanne and live a happy life. Mael, my child…"
Her sorrowful tears fell right on my cheek as she was fading away. Her warming yet regretful smile broke my heart and the sight of my two beloved people vanishing right in front of my eyes, tore my spirit.
She smiled one last time and spoke, 'Mael, mommy will always love you. Goodbye…."
With her last words, both of them vanished in the air.
"NOOOOOOOO!!!!"
My plead went in vain as my two most beloved families left this world.
