Bab 4: Surprise Bargains

Stepping through to the back room with Rachel, Erik saw that some how the knife that had been in the tray soaking in the venom had completely changed. No longer was it the triangle-shaped, double-edged blade but was now a curved, double-edged blade that resembled the fang that the venom once was stored in. The metal was still shiny and metallic, but now also had a faint green tinge to it. The handle had also darkened to a deep black.

The new form confused Erik greatly as the blade had changed shape as well as undergoing a few other changes that should have been impossible. Walking over and gently picking up the blade, Erik walked over and swirled the edge in some clean water to remove the last traces of venom that hadn't been absorbed.

"Huh, guess it was done sooner than I thought, though I'm gonna have to ask about the form change later." Erik said as he held the dagger up to the light and checked for any flaws or imperfections. Activating his "Appraise" skill he checked the blade again.

[Viper's Fang]

[Rarity: Uncommon]

[Attribute: Poison]

[Dagger used commonly in assassinations. The venom that the blade was soaked in will soon soak into the wounds of it's victim.]

'Well, that's pleasant.' Erik thought sarcastically as he turned towards his guest to see a shine in her eye at seeing the weapon. Rachel walked over and looked at the weapon with a sort of reverence.

"A genuine attributed weapon. This is an item that you'll only see in certain shops or if an adventurer is lucky enough when raiding certain dungeons and other dangerous areas." Rachel said as she looked at the blade over and over.

"Be careful. That blade is toxic and I'm not sure if I have any antidotes to spare if you get poisoned." Erik cautioned as Rachel kept flipping the blade over and over.

"Relax. I've been handling blades for years. How much are you gonna ask for this?" Rachel said before turning to Erik for a question he had been pondering himself. The knife he had made was worth about fifty gold and the Viper's Fang was rated at five hundred, but was that for this world or just a random price the Primordials stated?

"Honestly I wasn't a part of the sale of items when I was working in my last smithy so I'm guessing probably five hundred gold for the dagger?" Erik guessed and by the shocked look on Rachel's face he had apparently guessed wrong.

"A dagger like this could be sold for nearly two hundred more than that easily in most major cities!" Rachel exclaimed to which Erik nodded.

'Maybe I can get more blueprints by heading towards the big cities to look at other shops?' Erik thought as he looked at the dagger before glancing at the forge where the other weapon was still baking. Looking into the forge allowed Erik to witness small cracks form in the coating of ash like the veins in a lava field and the ash turning a glossy black color.

'A few more moments and it should be done.' Erik thought as he guessed that about an hour had passed. Turning around Erik saw that Rachel had gotten into a stance with the dagger in a reverse grip before doing a series of quick slashes before returning to a normal standing position to examine the dagger once more.

"I would like to buy this weapon from you as well as potentially the other one you have that is still in the works as long as it is of the same quality." Rachel said as she handed the dagger back to Erik. This statement caused Erik some surprise as he knew she was interested in his equipment but not to the extent that she would buy it.

"The other piece should be done in a few minutes." Erik said as he walked back to the forge and removed the sword from the heated confines. The blade had taken on a shiny black look similar to obsidian with cracks in the surface that glowed like the embers of a fire. The cross guard and the rest of the hilt had taken on a bronze color that seemed to match the blade reasonably well. A gasp from his guest told Erik that this sword was definitely special. Applying his skill once more Erik was definitely surprised by what he saw.

[Pyre Blade]

[Rarity: Rare]

[Attribute: Fire]

[A blade said to contain the essence of flame thanks to the use of magic-infused materials. The blade perpetually burns and sears those it cuts while cauterizing the wounds. Great against beasts and monsters that have regeneration abilities.]

'Well this start has been rather confusing.' Erik said as he was expecting the Ember Edge and got something else. Looking over his shoulder gave Erik the sight of Rachel with her jaw hanging open. It only stayed like that for a few seconds before she snapped out of it.

"What is this sword?! I've never seen anything like it!" Rachel said loudly in her excitement.

"It is called a Pyre Blade and honestly I was just trying to make a different equipment and somehow ended up with this instead. I'll have to double check everything to find out what went wrong or right I guess." Erik said as he checked the blades straightness for any deformity and finding none.

"I will gladly buy this from you, name your price!" Rachel said as she circled around Erik while never taking her eyes from the sword. Erik was about to name out a price before before he realized that there was a great profit that could be made just by taking a second more before selling it.

"Can you give me a couple of moments to figure out what happened to cause this and then we can talk about selling this sword?" Erik asked politely which caused Rachel to blush in embarrassment at her excited behavior and invasion of Erik's personal space.

"I'm gonna step outside and get some fresh air. Just let me know when you're done and we can talk about prices." Rachel said before hurrying outside. As soon as the door closed Erik walked over and grabbed one of the Origin Blueprints.

"Okay let's hurry and do this. I guess I either have to hold the item to the blueprint or the blueprint to his forehead." Erik decided to try the later because he didn't know if the process would consume the item in question. Holding the scroll to his head a small amount of info appeared in his head.

[Unroll and place scroll on flat surface then place item on top before saying "Activate" in which the item will be absorbed into the scroll and the Origin Blueprint will become purple with a gold boarder.]

"Damn! How am I gonna get past this without losing the sword?" Erik pondered as he looked from the sword to the scroll and back. Then Erik remembered that he had a skill that he hasn't used yet. Placing the scroll on the table and holding the sword in his hand, Erik focused and said 'Copy' causing the sword to flash before another sword appeared in his hand.

"Yes!" Erik hissed before he placed the copy sword on the scroll and said "Activate"! Another flash happened before the sword disappeared and the scroll appeared again with slight changes. Grabbing the scroll Erik quickly pressed the scroll to his forehead and the info zipped into his head.

"So that's what happened!" Erik exclaimed. The difference between the blades was that the Pyre Blade required one of the ashes used to be from either a magic-infused tree or the ashes from a magical species of tree.

"Wait, I thought I had grabbed regular trees? How did I get a magical tree?" Erik asked as he looked at the piles of wood left over. It was then that he spied one branch left from the strange tree that he had found next to the ash trees. Erik had completely forgotten the strange branches he had collected due to the envenomation from the snake and the excitement of getting a new skill. It was then that he scanned the last branch to see what he had inadvertently used.

[Yggdrasil Wood] {Sapling} (Rare)

[Wood from a Yggdrasil Tree. The longer the tree lives the stronger the wood and the magical power contained within the wood becomes.]

The shock that Erik felt was beyond reality. He had found saplings of the World Tree! This meant that there are things here that can be found from myths in his world. It was at this time that Erik had another idea. If he could copy an item then he could have multiple of an item just by making one, but after trying once more to copy the sword there wasn't another flash and nothing happened. After the third try, Erik decided to check the skill only to see a disclaimer at the bottom saying that he could only use copy once per each original object other than items on mission lists. So for every item he created here he could copy it once.

It was at this time that a knock on the door sounded. The door then cracked open and Rachel peeked her head around the corner.

"Mr. Erik? Are you close to finished?" Rachel asked as she still had a small tinge of pink on her cheeks.

"Yes, come in." Erik said as he quickly did a scan of the area to make sure that there was nothing indicative of his abilities or what had happened while she was gone, all the while rolling the new blueprint up and stashing it in the drawer of the nearby work table.

"Did you figure out what happened?" Rachel said as she walked over.

"Yeah though I'm gonna need to collect more materials if I want to make another one of these swords any time soon." Erik said while holding up the blade.

"You are able to make more?" Rachel asked with excitement.

"Yeah I should be able to later." Erik replied as he glanced at the left over branches sitting nearby.

"My family would be willing to purchase more of these from you if you make more." Rachel said while Erik thought of exactly how many of the Yggdrasil saplings he had seen in the grove. He thought he had seen two or three but there might be more. If he pruned a few branches that might be enough for a few swords without any huge negative effects on the magical trees.

"I think I can do a few more though it might take a few days to do so.: Erik said as he pondered the logistics.

"Wonderful! My family has a tradition of using weapons aligned with fire since it's founding five generations ago by my ancestor Sir Michael Von Isaac. Even my blade was fashioned by a master smith in the capital of the Karn Kingdom, Amar." Rachel said as she drew her rapier from her side. She then passed it to Erik who held it gently while examining the work. Activating his skill showed him the blade was definitely made of some good stuff.

[Dawn Rapier]

[Rarity: Rare]

[Attribute: Light/Fire]

[A rapier that shines with the light of a new day. The bane of the undead and all that are flammable.]

A low whistle escaped from Erik's mouth at the basic appraisal and the thought of adding this to his blueprints was burning in his mind but the chances of him getting a few minutes alone to copy and create the blueprint without Rachel seeing or finding out about his abilities was extremely low. Maybe when they were on better terms he might be able to get a moment with the blade.

"Very nice. Now, how much were you thinking for the two blades here?" Erik asked as he handed the rapier back to Rachel who sheathed it.

"I was thinking that the dagger should be roughly six hundred and fifty gold. The sword would be five thousand gold." Rachel replied once her rapier was secured. The price for the dagger was fine but the price for the sword was low as the blueprint stated that the base price was ten thousand.

"I'm fine with the dagger price but the sword should be worth twelve thousand gold." Erik countered as Rachel's face was creased with a frown.

"The sword's good but it can't be any higher than a common elemental blade. six thousand gold." Rachel replied as she folded her arms.

"Check again miss. The blade is roughly on par with your own in quality. Eleven thousand." Erik countered with a smirk. This reply caused Rachel to walk over and take the sword in her own hand. A few swings and a thorough examination later caused a complex look to cross her features.

"You are correct, but I still think this is too steep. Nine thousand gold." Rachel replied as she handed the sword back to Erik.

"Ten thousand and not one gold less." Erik stated with finality. Silence hung in the air as Rachel wrestled with her decision for a bit before a long sigh escaped her and a small chuckle escape her.

"Fine Mr. Erik. You drive a hard bargain. I'll have a servant come by in a couple of days with the pay and to collect both weapons. I would also like to purchase six more of the swords for fifty thousand. I hope you can agree since I am purchasing a small bulk of them from you." Rachel said with a smile and Erik answered with one of his own. Not because of the interaction with the apparent noble woman, but because of the chance he now had.

"That sounds fine though I would like to add on a stipulation. I would like an hour to study that blade of yours. I want to study it more in detail to see what exactly that master smith did." Erik said as he knew that there was a possibility that he could get a minute to copy and stow the extra to make a blueprint for later if not right after copying the sword within that hour.

"Deal!" Rachel said as she shook hands with Erik in agreement. The two wrote out a small agreement on the six blades and the price. Unfortunately by the time they finished everything it was getting late and Rachel had to get going if she wanted to meet her party at the inn as agreed upon. A farewell and a simple torch from Erik as a courtesy saw Rachel on her way. As Erik headed up to hit the sac and rest up for the following day a *ding* alerted him once more.

"Congratulations on completing your first task! I will contact you soon about the missions soon."

Phaysus, Primordial of Conflict and Death

"Well don't have the gold yet, but good enough. My first mission. I wonder where I'll be going?" Erik wondered as he got ready for bed and then crawled in. Seconds later his eyes drifted close and thoughts of the adventures ahead filled his dreams.
