Bab 60: The reign of deceit

As I reached the quiet hallway near my bedroom, Bianca, my maid, appeared, looking pale and glancing nervously around. 

Her eyes were wide like she was afraid someone might see us together. She quickly dipped into a bow, but I motioned her to stand.

"Princess Isabella, I need to speak with you," She whispered, gripping the edge of her apron so tightly her knuckles turned white. "I overheard something… something dangerous."

I sighed, but I stayed calm. I'd heard this warning many times already. "What did you hear this time, Bianca?"

Her voice shook. "Prince Nicholas and Lady Elara… they're plotting against you. They want the crown for themselves. Nicholas was saying how he wishes to get rid of you, so his 'beloved Elara' can take your place on the throne. He… he might be planning to kill you, Princess."

I felt a sharp twist in my stomach. Not fear. I was past that by now. It was anger—a hot, searing anger.
