Bab 6: Fighting on Par; Beast-kin’s Explosive Counterattack
'I've got to hurry up if I want this kill,' Ollis thinks to himself while swimming. When he is about to reach the edge of the water, he notices something. He felt a large amount of mana being manipulated by and ejected from the colorful mass of majicka: the rabid fish beast-kin.
Ollis looks up and sees Prince Orson in a noble pose, getting struck by a bolt of water.
'Phew! Now I don't have to worry about anyone stealing my rightfully deserved kill.' Ollis continues to swim, thinking about how he's going to defeat this evil. 'The only chance I have of winning is a sneak attack. If I could kill it in one hit, that would be great. Unfortunately, that probably wont happen… What am I doing? All this thinking is making my brain hurt. And besides, everyone knows that the best plan is no plan!'
Luckily, the rabid beast-kin was waiting very patiently for it's beating. Once Ollis was in shallow enough water, he impulsively jumped out and attacked the foul creature with a devilish grin. The beast turned around with an obvious look of surprise making a home on its face.
Ollis' new power of mana manipulation came in handy when he condensed mana in his hand and struck the rabid fish beast-kin, like he was wielding a brick. A single scale on it's forehead cracked, and blood seeped out.
'I only managed to make blood drip from its forehead? How weak am I? Well, anything is better than nothing, and now I know I can hurt it. If I do this one hundred more times, it's sure to die,' thought Ollis. In the background of the ambush, all of Orson's people felt both relief and fear. They thought things like
'Yes, we are saved! I can't wait to go home and tell my children about this.'
'Great! Another savior. I'm really starting to lose hope, y'know.'
And 'This nudist isn't even half as strong as my grand prince. He's lucky he even managed to get that close, let alone hit it. I bet my entire estate that this battle wont last another 5 minutes!'
Ollis wound up for another punch and swung with all his might, but the rabid beast-kin managed to evade. Its moves seemed to convey the message "how are you supposed to hit me another 100 times if you can't catch me?"
Swing after swing, all of them failed to hit their target. Ollis thought to himself 'This is the definition of insanity. I have to shake things up a bit.' And so he did.
What's the point of only using hands when you have a whole body to use? When Ollis couldn't bloody the rabid fish beast-kin with his bludgeoning punches anymore, he switched to swift kicks. If his legs couldn't hit, he would switch to a different part of his body. All of his limbs would hit the fish at least once.
The audience to the fight felt even more despair.
"I thought you were supposed to use your head to come up with battle plans, not give yourself a concussion!?"
Is what most of them thought. They saw Ollis' movements and were instantly reminded of a brainless golem: stiff movements and sacrificing itself for the greater goal. It was touching, really.
"You're really bloody," shouted Ollis in the middle of a fight. "But so am I! I think it's time for my ultimate finisher: bear hug!" After Ollis announced his attack like he was some protagonist in an anime, he leaped onto the rabid beast-kin and held on tight. He squeezed and squeezed. The exhausted rabid fish beast-kin was in such a sorry state that it couldn't even get the puny human off of it!
"Glub glub glub," said the rabid fish beast-kin. It was like it was announcing its own attack because what came next was deadly. A magical, light blue halo surrounded it. It was also using its grand finisher.
'This rabid fish beast-kin is charging up for an attack that will surely expend all of its energy to kill you. Calculating survival chances… 20% chance of survival. You need to find a way to leave the range of this attack. If not, your death is imminent!' The system warned Ollis at a crucial moment. The rabid beast-kin could blow up in an explosive attack any second now. He really had to escape, and fast.
"If you think I'm going to run, you've got another thing coming. If I run, how is the beast-kin supposed to die? And how am I supposed to claim the bounty for its head? Besides, I'm supposed to be lucky. In my mind, there's no chance I will die if I don't want to!" After Ollis finished speaking, the rabid fish beast-kin also finished charging up. The halo of energy that surrounded both Ollis and itself got more and more intense. The crowd of people that were at the mercy of the rabid fish beast-kin had to close their eyes the light was so bright. Most of them thought they were in range of being attacked, and they would be correct. Unfortunately, they couldn't see. Some of them tried to run away, but they ended up tripping on a rock or a fallen tree branch.
*KABOOOM!* A massive explosion could be heard and a bright white light could be seen. After a very long moment, everyone was surprised when they came back to their senses.
"I'm not dead?!"
"We all survived? How could this be?"
Everyone was shocked that they were alive. That explosion was like a nuke, and somehow they survived. After everyone came to the conclusion that they didn't die, they remembered the nudist and his fight with the rabid fish beast-kin, who was the source of the explosion.
They were once again surprised. They saw a dark silhouette standing in front of the setting sun. Almost no features could be made out. With the very few feature that they could see, it obviously wasn't a human.
"Oh no. It survived. Luckily, it should have expended all of its energy with that last attack. Bless the nudist's soul. He gave his life so we could live ours." As soon as a person from the crowd said that, the same light-blue halo surrounded the silhouette. "I've spoken too soon."
