I finally reached the front steps of my apartment and put the cat down before taking out my keys to unlock the door. If you are wondering, I live alone. So I guess I won't be so lonely now that I have this little guy to keep me company.
It suddenly began to rain when I turned around to pick up the cat so I could bring her into the house but when I looked to where she was... She had disappeared. I checked the steps to see where she could be but she was nowhere to be found so... I headed inside.
I set my keys down on the kitchen table, washed my hands and looked in the fridge for something to eat but I wasn't actually hungry so I put my bag in my room, removed my shoes and placed my trench coat on the bed before going to the couch and switching on the TV.
Flipping through the channels I stopped to watch the weather report and turned up the volume. They were saying that there was going to be a major electric storm and that heavy rain was expected. There was also warnings that people should stay in their houses for the next few days until the storm clears.
I flipped through the channels again until I stopped when I saw that SCREAM 4 was on. I was really in the mood for a horror movie so I stayed up to watch it.
I was watching the part where SCREAM was already in the house and heading towards the staircase when, the doorbell rang. No, not in the movie, my doorbell actually rang. Perfect timing hey, it's like one in the morning and not to mention creepy.
I mean, I was just watching a horror movie and the doorbell rings, now??.. I got up from where I was sitting wondering who it could be at this hour. Could it be a killer? I wasn't sure... but at least I didn't get that: "What's your favourite scary movie" phone call. That would of scared me shitless... So I'm guessing it wasn't SCREAM.
I turned down the TV's volume and walked slowly towards the door trying my very best to not make a sound. I had socks on so I guess that helped too. As I inched closer towards the door, the TV suddenly started to go static.
I don't usually get scared that easily but I was already wishing... it was just a nightmare.
"Wake up... Wake up..." I whispered to myself.
"You're dreaming... This is all in your head..." I told myself to stop me from panicking.
I inched more closely towards the door until I got to where the peephole was. I was hesitant but I managed to get myself to look through it. When I looked through the peephole there was no one standing in front of the door.
Very slowly I began to creak the door open a bit, leaving the chain still on but as I looked through the gap in the door... There was still no one to be seen, not even a shadow. I closed the door slowly, not wanting to be heard because you never know, the person might come back if they hear a noise or something.
Making sure to be extra safe I locked the door before turning around and resting my back against it as I let out a sigh of relief. The TV that had gone static was back to normal so I headed back to the couch to watch the rest of the movie finished. Damn, I already missed most of the movie and it was almost finished.
Was I gone for that long? Like almost an hour?... I thought. So I basically spent an hour trying to answer the door... The movie was now already over and the words started to come up on the screen so I switched off the TV.
I was super tired after saving that cat and my failed attempt to answer the door. Let's also not forget how freaked out I was... So I was really tired, that was literally enough drama for one day... I swear, I almost had a heart attack but I had to get to bed since I still had school tomorrow. I headed to my room, got into bed covering myself with blankets and switched off my bedroom light as I started to doze off.
I was so tired I didn't even bother to change... but I can do that tomorrow, I thought, when a flash of lightning came from my window. It was still raining outside and I could hear the tapping of the raindrops as they hit against my windowpane.
When the rain had finally stopped, everything went silent. It was so quiet in the house that I could hear my own heart beat pacing then suddenly I heard tapping on my window and a meow. It was that black cat and she wanted to come in.
I opened the window for her and closed it again once she was inside the house. This cat came from the alley... She was definitely dirty and needed a good bath. I couldn't let her wander around my house like that so I took her to the bathroom and gave her a good wash.
It took long to get her clean but not as long as I expected. Only an hour, it took me an hour probably because she didn't like the water. Once, I was finished drying her off with the dryer, I headed to bed getting under the blankets, switched off the light and finally... I managed to drift off to sleep.
And the story continues...
I would like to clear up an issue with this chapter as well. Alice says... "I can't just leave him here" in the previous chapter and then she says "so I guess I won't be so lonely now that I have this little guy to keep me company." But then later she refers to the cat as a she. This is because she doesn't know what gender the cat is but then she assumes it's a female. So I'm sorry about that. If you felt somewhat confused.
