"Bastian?" There was no male voice on the other side of the phone, so Tara Summer called out to him.

Bastian snapped back to reality, slowly rising from his leather chair; he approached the floor-to-ceiling windows, his gaze fixating on the expansive sea outside the window.

"I'm listening..." he said, his expression grave, "Tara Summer, to be honest with you, Emily Stone's situation is pretty much beyond help. You... shouldn't waste your time and energy."

"What?!" Tara's heart sank. She cupped her stomach with one hand, her fingers gripping the phone turned white from the strength of her grip, "Bastian, you can't do anything? Or is it that Emily's condition is too severe for you to save her?!"
