The wild animals knew that they could not reach the 20 men, so they decided to change targets. Instantly, they lunged towards the helpless villagers that waited for their entry at the gate. The villagers were scattered. While waiting, some decided to stand; others took their seats. Upon seeing the beasts approaching, they panicked.

The beasts were smart enough to tell which ones were the weaker ones. Therefore, most of the beasts chose to attack women and children. Tie Dan, Tie Niu, and their men were eager to save their family from the attack, so they fought the beasts to the best of their abilities to keep them away. Nonetheless, they were obviously outnumbered by the abundance of ferocious beasts surrounding them. Even with the help of Zhao Fengxing and his men, they were not able to keep everyone safe.
