It's come to my attention that a lot of you guys think that the cultivators in the Barren Lands are in Third Step, and Dao Yuan's slaves are also in Third Step, so I was a bit worried and confused because of some things that happen later on in the novel that says this is wrong (but I forgot, hence the confusion), and I went back to check the chapter where it is mentioned that these guys are in the Third Step, which is the 'Path of Cultivation', just in case I made a mistake in my translation. Allow me to make a clarification here, because I've updated the chart, and in case some of you are confused by it: The raws aren't wrong, and neither is the translation. If you notice, in the 'Path of Cultivation', the one who makes all these categorizations is Su Ming himself, based on what he knew, which may be wrong. It also means that what the people themselves in this Expanse Cosmos knew is wrong, and you'll understand much, much later why this is the case.
