As we walked out of the forest, the conversation shifted to my plans for the academy I intended to establish. Liu Erlong seemed skeptical, yet intrigued. I took my time explaining, my tone steady and deliberate.
"I don't expect a lot of students," I began. "At most, there will be ten at any given time. But each of them will be extraordinary, a monster in their own right. The academy won't be about numbers; it will be about quality."
Liu Erlong raised an eyebrow. "And how do you plan to achieve that? Most academies struggle to balance resources with talented students."
I smirked. "Simple. Students won't have to pay tuition. Instead, they'll earn their place by proving their worth. The academy will provide everything they need to grow, but any luxuries or special resources will have to be earned or purchased through their contributions and achievements."
Her expression shifted to curiosity. "So it's merit-based? That's unusual. Most places cater to nobles who can pay their way in."
I nodded, my tone growing firm. "That won't happen here. Nobles won't have any influence on the academy. Their children will only be allowed to join if they're talented and have the right attitude. Everyone will be treated equally, regardless of their background."
Liu Erlong's lips curled into a small smile. "I like the sound of that. But you mentioned earlier that I don't meet the requirements to be a teacher. Care to elaborate?"
I chuckled, enjoying the opportunity to tease her. "Well, all teachers at my academy will be Titled Douluo. That's the minimum standard."
She stopped walking, staring at me in disbelief. "You're insane."
"Maybe," I admitted with a grin. "But I'm also serious. Don't worry, though. I can help you reach that level in eight years."
Her laughter was sharp and incredulous. "Eight years? Do you have any idea how absurd that sounds? Even with my talent, breaking through to Titled Douluo isn't something that happens overnight."
"I know," I replied calmly. "But I also know what I'm capable of. Trust me, Liu Erlong. I wouldn't make such a claim without reason."
She studied me, her skepticism evident but tinged with curiosity. "You're an odd one, kid. But if you're so confident, I'll hear you out. Who else do you have lined up for this academy of yours?"
"One Titled Douluo has already agreed to join as a teacher," I said, watching her reaction closely.
Her eyes widened in shock. "A Titled Douluo? Who?"
I smirked. "That's a story for another time. For now, just know that my plans are already in motion."
She seemed to mull over my words as we continued walking. Eventually, she broke the silence. "All right. You've got my attention, but I'm not convinced. Helping me reach Titled Douluo in eight years? That's a tall order, even for someone as confident as you."
"Confidence isn't enough," I said with a smile. "But results speak louder than words. Give me a chance, and I'll prove it to you."
We continued discussing various aspects of the academy, from its structure to the type of training the students would undergo. I shared some basic details about my family, and she listened with genuine interest. When I mentioned how much I missed them, she gave me a surprised look.
"I'm shocked," she said with a teasing tone. "You've got human emotions after all."
We both laughed, the tension from earlier easing into camaraderie. By the time we reached the edge of the forest, the sky was tinged with the warm hues of dusk. Liu Erlong stopped and turned to face me.
"By the way, we haven't introduced each other yet." I extended my hand and said, "Dugu Bei, Spirit King Rank 60 Poison Devouring Spider Emperor, power attack system" I could see shock all over her face so I added, "I'm turning 10 soon if you must know." I grinned at her weird expression when I said that.
One minute later she shook my hand and introduced herself. "Liu Erlong, Spirit Emperor Rank 69 Fire Dragon, power attack system. You don't need to know my age" she said with a serious expression which made my grin grow.
"You've given me a lot to think about, Dugu Bei" she admitted. "Give me a year. If you're serious about this academy and about helping me, come find me then. I'll have an answer for you."
I nodded, respecting her decision. "Fair enough. Until then, stay strong, Liu Erlong."
She smirked with a spark of determination in her eyes. "You too, crazy kid."
As she turned and walked away, I felt a sense of accomplishment. Meeting her here was unexpected, but not unwelcome. Exhausted but satisfied, I headed back to the city. A bath and a comfortable pillow were waiting for me, after everything I'd been through, I deserved a bit of rest.
