Bab 3: Awakening talents

This talent was decisive for the future of every citizen of the Kingdom.

And so, Awakening Day had become a tradition in the Kingdom: every sixteen-year-old teenager was given the chance to awaken his or her own talent.

And the Kingdom spent a lot of money on training young talent, after all, the rift was still very much present in the sky.

It was possible that there would be another invasion in the future.

Adam stiffened as he realized that this world was not so peaceful.

"What are you thinking my love?"

His mother's gentle voice echoed in Adam's mind.

"No, no, nothing." replied Adam with a slight, tense smile.

"Um...okay. And you're not nervous?" his worried mother asked again.

"It seems like only yesterday you were a little boy playing in the garden with your stick for a sword. And now you're already ready to awaken your talent!" his mother's voice rang out, but this time with a new liveliness.

Clearly, her emotions were changing at an extraordinary rate.

Her little brother jumped up in his chair, his eyes sparkling.

"Me too, me too I want to awaken my talent!"

Her mother's soft laughter could be heard over the little brother's exclamations.

"You'll have to wait a little longer before you can awaken your talent, my darling."

For her part, her mind was whirling. This world, with its infinite possibilities, contrasted sharply with the simplicity of his former life on Earth.

He felt both curious and terrified. What if... what if his new body didn't awaken a good talent? What would he do?

His mother, seemingly guessing his unease, laid a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, big guy. No matter what the outcome, we'll always be proud of you."

These words touched Adam far more than he could have imagined. The warmth and support they contained gave him new strength. He was no longer alone. He had a family here, a reason to succeed.

After breakfast, Adam left the house with his brother trotting happily by his side.

After a quick breakfast, Adam left the apartment for the high school.

The city, vast and bustling, was teeming with life from the early hours of the morning. Cars flew over the reserved air lanes, while passers-by, some dressed in classic outfits and others in light armor, crowded the sidewalks.

Adam soon arrived in front of his imposing high school building, a modern structure combining special metal and glass, adorned with flags and symbols linked to the Kingdom's history.

In a large amphitheater, first- and second-year high school students were gathered.

The ambient hubbub reflected a variety of emotions: excitement, fear, impatience.

On the central stage, an intricate circle was carved into the floor, its runes glinting in a soft light.

The principal, a man with stern features but a benevolent voice, spoke.

"Dear students, today is a defining day for you. It is here that you will discover your talent, that part of yourself that will guide you into the future. Approach one by one, and enter the circle."

"This talent will be very important in determining to what extent you will be able to practice martial or magical arts."

Following the director's short introductory speech, the first student called up to the dais, visibly anxious.

A golden light flashed around him, and a few seconds later, a spectral bow appeared in his hands.

As he grasped it, an arrow of pure energy materialized before the young man's shocked eyes.

"So this is my talent?" he whispered to himself.

The room erupted in applause.

"Good, very good. Perhaps this talent will enable you to become a master in the future, young man." commented the director with satisfaction.

Hearing these words, Maxime recalled a few things.

After awakening his talent, it was possible to practice techniques.

For the vast majority of people, they could practice martial artist techniques.

These techniques strengthened the human body to a superhuman point.

But there was a very significant difference in power between different martial artists.

As a result, several martial arts domains were created:

Apprentice warrior, warrior, master and grandmaster.

Adam was aware that there were other, higher ranks, but he didn't know more because of the limits of his own status and the information blocked by the kingdom's authorities.

In the Kingdom of Keria, it was said that the strongest men were at the grandmaster stage.

Cities were usually protected by several masters, with a minimum of 3.

Whether there were more than 3 depended on the city's population, economic development and, quite simply, luck.

In the town of Iris, Adam's home town, there were 8 masters, although it was possible for there to be more.

There was the lord of the town, the commander-in-chief of the town army and 3 school principals, including the principal of Adam's school and 3 heads of household.

Moreover, the speed of practice depended largely on the compatibility between one's talent and the martial arts techniques...

So much so that the vast majority of martial arts techniques could not be practiced without sufficient compatibility.

Adam knew, for example, that if this young man practiced archery, he would progress much faster than other people because his talent allowed him to manifest a bow.

And given the quality of the bow, his talent itself couldn't be bad, hence the director's remarks.

The young man in question was equally pleased, making the bow disappear very easily into his hands, and bowing slightly in the direction of the director before making his way back down the stairs to the stage.

Then it was a girl's turn. A bluish light enveloped her, revealing two glittering daggers.

She executed a series of rapid movements, her blades leaving luminous trails in the air.

The crowd murmured in admiration.

The principal also nodded in her direction, clearly pleased with the quality of the talents displayed by the students under his responsibility.

More students took to the stage, one after the other awakening their talents.

All succeeded in awakening their talent, and displayed weapons.

Swords and spears were the most common weapons, with an awakening rate of 30% each.

Next came bows, accounting for 20% of talent, while daggers accounted for 10% of the total.

The remaining 10% was divided between various weapons that were unique but not necessarily very useful due to the lack of a manual to practice with.

The rarer the weapons, the fewer humans had created techniques for them. This made sense.

These weapons included shields, halberds and crossbows.

"It's a pity, I have the impression that this year again no student will succeed in awakening an affinity to an element. Only weapons were shown," sighed the director quietly.

A teacher next to him heard him and whispered:

"It can't be helped Director, these students have ordinary origins and our method of awakening their talent is also quite standard."

The director merely nodded with slight bitterness.

Soon Adam's name was called, making his heart beat a thousand miles an hour.
