Bab 60: Chapter 60: You Don’t Want Our Private Matters Interrupted, Right?

The dust settled.

The tide had turned.

The battle against the Raptures was a resounding success.

Once the retreat of the Rapture army was confirmed, Mo Chen slumped into his chair, letting out a long sigh of relief. Unbeknownst to him, his back was already drenched in sweat.

To say he wasn't nervous at all would have been a lie.

No matter how many games he had played, games were still just games. In real life, every soldier lost represented a real, living being.

In this case, real, living Nikkes.

If they fell, there were no revival items to bring them back.

Before Mo Chen could fully catch his breath, the command room door burst open with a loud bang.

"Commander, we won!"

"Haha!"

"Did you see me out there? Wasn't I amazing?"

Anis came running in, her grin practically ear-to-ear as she beelined to Mo Chen, eager for praise.

This battle had been cathartic for her.

In past fights, the Nikkes had been stuck on the defensive, holed up and enduring wave after wave of Rapture attacks.

But this time, they had taken the fight to the enemy, surrounded them, and completely decimated them.

For Anis, it was sweet, sweet revenge—better than mowing down low-tier enemies on a boring day.

"You did well," Mo Chen said nonchalantly.

"'Well'?! That's it? No way, say it again!"

"Fine, fine. Anis, you were incredible, the best out there!"

"Haha, now that's more like it!"

Anis, basking in the compliments, puffed out her chest and glowed with pride, clearly enjoying the chance to boast in front of her teammates.

It was only then that he learned about her heroics on the battlefield.

Apparently, during the fight, she had single-handedly taken down a Lord-class Rapture.

No wonder she was so overjoyed.

"Commander!"

Mo Chen turned his head to see Neon.

"What's up?"

"You were absolutely right," she said, her expression serious.

"Huh?"

Neon clenched her fist, determination gleaming in her eyes.

"I proved it on the battlefield: firepower is everything! There's nothing firepower can't overcome!"

Mo Chen blinked, stunned for a moment before finally responding.

"...Ah? Yes. Yes, that's true."

"See? I knew it!"

Neon practically bounced with excitement. Winning the battle and earning her commander's approval only cemented her belief in her creed.

This, she decided, was the true path in life!

As he glanced around, his gaze landed on Rapi standing silently by his side.

"Good work out there," he said warmly.

Rapi shook her head gently, a soft smile gracing her lips.

"It wasn't hard. It's all thanks to you, Commander."

"It's all thanks to you; without your efforts, this wouldn't have gone so smoothly," Mo Chen said.

"We're just the executors. The battlefield's most crucial decisions come from the commander," Rapi replied with her usual composure.

"Haha, let's skip the mutual compliments, shall we?"

Anis and Neon headed off to celebrate, while Rapi left to organize battle records.

Mo Chen finally had a rare moment of peace to reflect on the day's battle.

While the battle had ended in a decisive victory, it wasn't particularly challenging for him.

Still, after reviewing the past battle records of the outpost, Mo Chen noticed a disturbing pattern.

Victory was a rare outcome. Even when the outpost had a significant advantage in firepower and numbers, they frequently lost.

Unable to win when they had the upper hand, and incapable of turning the tide under pressure—this was the reality of the outpost's history.

The tactics recorded were so rudimentary that they reminded Mo Chen of medieval European tactics, where soldiers stood in neat lines to shoot at each other.

These findings confirmed his suspicions.

Thanks to the Ark's deliberate neglect, the quality of military training had been steadily declining. Not only were officers "fast-tracked" into their roles, but many lacked even basic tactical knowledge.

Books on strategy? Rarely studied, often shelved.

Many such texts had even been lost to time.

The result? A military that was woefully underprepared for the realities of modern combat.

Strategies that were common knowledge in Mo Chen's world were completely unknown here.

It baffled him.

But on further thought, it made a twisted kind of sense.

The enemy was the Raptures—mindless, instinct-driven beings—so complex tactics weren't often needed.

Furthermore, the wars against the Raptures had wiped out humanity's finest minds, leaving behind only the less competent. Couple that with one- or two-year officer training programs, and it was no wonder they were losing so frequently.

The door to the command room creaked open, and a cold gust of wind swept in, making Mo Chen shiver.

"Who left the door open?" he muttered, turning around.

It was Eunhwa, her frosty demeanor entering the room even before she did.

"You. Come with me," she said icily before turning to leave.

Her tone carried an air of formality, despite the obvious irritation in her voice.

Curious but compliant, Mo Chen followed her into a dimly lit alley.

"What's this about?"

Eunhwa stopped abruptly and turned to face him, her piercing eyes locking onto his.

"Relying solely on luck to win a battle makes you a third-rate commander," she declared bluntly.

"Uh, what?"

"Taking fortune as skill will eventually get your Nikkes killed," she continued, her voice like a glacier cutting through the air.

"Are you… talking to me?" Mo Chen asked, incredulous.

"Yes. This is a warning," Eunhwa said, her tone unyielding.

"A warning?"

Mo Chen couldn't help but feel perplexed. None of this criticism seemed to apply to him.

"Many fresh-from-the-academy idiots believe they can pull off some miraculous strategy, but in reality, they're just arrogant fools biting off more than they can chew."

Her gaze bore into him, her tone dripping with condescension.

Mo Chen's expression shifted as realization dawned.

"You're upset, aren't you?"

Her frosty composure cracked slightly, a flash of irritation crossing her face before she quickly masked it.

"Don't assume that just because you won this time, you'll win the next. Stop overestimating yourself, third-rate commander!"

Her voice grew sharper, clearly rattled.

Mo Chen finally understood.

Eunhwa's harsh words weren't about strategy or tactics—they were about her bruised ego.

During the battle, she had vocally opposed his plans, confident they would fail.

But the outcome proved her wrong.

Instead of letting her gloat over a failure, Mo Chen's victory only highlighted her misjudgment.

Feeling her credibility shaken, she had come to confront him under the guise of offering "advice."

"It's okay," Mo Chen said, struggling to suppress a grin. "If you want, we can settle this in the simulation room."

Eunhwa's icy demeanor faltered for a moment.

"Don't think your little tricks will fool me," she said curtly, though she didn't outright refuse.

"You're too smart for tricks, I know that," Mo Chen replied with a teasing smile. "But just so you know, I'm really good at this. Don't cry when you lose."

"Arrogant fool."

They headed back to the command room.

Since the outpost lacked the high-tech simulation chambers found on the Ark, they opted for a VR simulation linked to the Ark's system.

Although the connection wasn't perfect and the visuals were slightly downgraded, the functionality was nearly identical.

Mo Chen locked the door to the room to prevent interruptions.

When he turned back, Eunhwa's icy gaze was locked on him.

Despite the tension, he felt the need to clarify.

"You wouldn't want anyone barging in on our private matters, would you?"

Her glare turned even frostier.

"If you're itching to get your head blown off, keep talking."

"…" He wisely chose silence.
