"Jingle bells~ ding jingle bells~"
Lip and Ian had just walked into the house when the phone rang.
"Lip, why did you turn on the ringtone?"
"Ian, I've realized that setting your favorite rock song as your ringtone is a terrible idea. After less than a week, you end up hating the song you originally loved."
"So, you switched to a classic tone?"
"Uh-huh." Lip nodded.
"What are you two mumbling about? Come on, it's dinner time!" Fiona's voice called loudly from the kitchen.
The two rushed to the kitchen and found their usual seats at the table.
Lip noticed that, besides their family, Kevin, Veronica, and Steve were all there.
"What's going on? Why's the whole squad here tonight?" Ian asked.
"Fiona said she has something important to announce to everyone," Carl whispered into Ian's ear.
"Okay, quiet down!" Fiona said, her excitement evident. "Now that everyone's here, I have an announcement to make!"
She smiled brightly. "Let me introduce my new boyfriend—Jimmy!"
"New boyfriend?" Veronica asked, confused. "Isn't this guy already your current boyfriend?"
"She's right!" Kevin chimed in. "And isn't this guy's name Steve? When did he become Jimmy?"
"Jimmy!" Fiona shot him a pointed look.
"Uh… I'd like to apologize to everyone." Jimmy stood and bowed. "I used a fake name for safety reasons. My real name is Jimmy."
"Jimmy, are you a spy?!" Carl asked excitedly.
"No." Jimmy chuckled, shaking his head. "I'm a car thief."
"Whoa! Cool!" Carl exclaimed, even more excited. "Like GTA?"
"Uh… sort of. But with a bit more skill involved."
"Cough, cough." Jimmy cleared his throat. "Today, I confessed everything to Fiona, and she forgave me for my lies. But…"
Jimmy paused dramatically, eyeing everyone leaning in to listen.
"But what?! Jimmy, spit it out!" Debbie urged eagerly.
"Hehe. Fiona said if I told her everything, I'd lose my sense of mystery. How do you think I should keep her intrigued?"
Fiona gave Jimmy a mock glare, though her smile betrayed her amusement. She handed Veronica a plate of food.
"Buy her flowers!"
"Take her to the movies!"
"Get her a bag!"
"Buy her some lingerie!"
Everyone took turns guessing and teasing.
"You'll never guess what kind of grand gesture this guy made to win me over!" Fiona said with a sweet smile, looking like a love-struck teenager.
"Jimmy, what did you do?!"
The group leaned in eagerly, pressing Jimmy for the answer.
But Jimmy just smiled silently.
"This guy bought me a house—right next door!" Fiona beamed, her face glowing with joy.
"Wow!"
The room erupted in cheers.
"And you'll never guess what this guy's real background is!" Fiona added, giddy. "He's a rich kid and a top student at Michigan Medical School!"
"He even had a fiancée back home!" Fiona pouted playfully, a mix of teasing and mock annoyance.
"What?!"
Once again, everyone was stunned.
"But," Fiona continued, "he's broken up with her. And I'm going to meet his family next week for Thanksgiving!"
"Woohoo!"
The group felt like they were on a roller coaster of revelations, one twist after another.
"I've also decided to resume my studies," Jimmy said, his face full of determination.
"And all of this is thanks to one person—Lip!"
"Why're you looking at me?" Lip said, shrugging. "Today's stars are Jimmy and Fiona!"
"If it wasn't for Lip giving me a hard time that day, I wouldn't have figured out what I really wanted," Jimmy said sincerely, turning to Fiona.
Fiona rewarded him with her warmest smile.
"Thank you, Lip," Fiona and Jimmy said in unison.
"Uh… don't mention it. But Jimmy, if you're going back to Michigan, isn't that a long-distance relationship with Fiona?" Lip teased. "I heard someone say long-distance relationships are like leaves—they're either green or they fall off!"
"Haha! I'll come back every weekend to see Fiona. And if she misses me, she can visit me too. To make things easier, I'm planning to take her car shopping tomorrow."
"Oh, I want a rich boyfriend to buy me a car and a house!" Veronica said, throwing an envious look at Fiona.
"I've got you, Veronica!" Fiona said grandly. "Hahaha!"
Kevin's face fell.
Lip patted Kevin's shoulder calmly. "Kevin, as your bro, I gotta say—your chances of becoming a rich guy in the future are looking pretty good."
"What?!" Kevin asked, dumbfounded. "Me? Lip, are you joking?"
"Nope. After dinner, I'll explain everything. You'll understand then."
"Don't look at me like that! Let's eat first—we've got plenty to talk about later."
Lip's casual words left everyone even more curious, their appetites piqued to the max.
