Chapter 103: Escape
Among the three colors of Haki, Armament Haki was Charlotte's weakness, and he was determined to overcome it.
As this thought took root, Charlotte's resolve hardened.
He activated his Observation Haki on a large scale, covering the entire Sabaody Archipelago. In an instant, he located his crew.
"Hurry up! As long as the coating is completed today, each person will get 1 million Baileys!"
Paul was anxiously urging the workers.
Charlotte had ordered them to supervise the coating process and ensure its completion that day. He knew he couldn't hold out much longer against Admiral Kong. The longer they delayed, the more danger Charlotte would face.
Paul didn't believe that his boss could win against a navy admiral—figures who, in this era, were seen as invincible.
Looking at the distant sky split apart by their clash, the explosions, the sound of swords cutting through the air, and the crashing waves, Paul's anxiety deepened.
At the bow of the ship, Elena clasped her hands together, praying fervently.
It was the first time she had prayed like this, and it was for the man who had once forced her onto this path—a man she found both infuriating and worryingly endearing.
She touched her slightly rounded belly.
"I don't want my baby to be born without knowing his father," she whispered.
Over the past two months, Elena had realized that ending her life would also mean ending her child's. She refused to let this innocent life perish with her.
"Baby, let's pray for your daddy together," she said softly, her voice tinged with worry.
In the distance, the battle raged.
"Charlotte! Why don't you surrender?"
Kong's deep voice boomed as he stood, bloodied but unyielding, staring at his opponent.
Charlotte, half-kneeling on the ground, propped himself up with the Seven Star Sword embedded in the earth. His body was battered, and his eyes were barely open, but they still fixed on Kong with unwavering determination.
"Surrender? That's not my style," Charlotte said hoarsely, pushing himself to stand despite the tremors in his legs.
The two had been fighting for hours. Island No. 1 was in ruins, split in half, its iconic tree trunk shattered to dust. The once-thriving area was now barren, with no intact structures in sight.
Charlotte's body emitted a strange green aura, making Kong feel uneasy.
That green light...it seemed to stir something in his heart, a faint unease. Shaking his head to dispel the distraction, Kong refocused on Charlotte.
Despite everything, Kong couldn't help but admire the young pirate. Charlotte's towering figure, standing defiantly against an admiral, evoked a sense of awe.
Yet Kong knew the truth behind this fight. The Five Elders had ordered Charlotte's capture not because of his strength but because he had destroyed a Celestial Dragon's auction house.
Though the reason seemed absurd, Kong, as an admiral, had no choice but to obey. Protecting the Celestial Dragons and their interests was part of his duty.
"Charlotte, I'm sorry, but this ends now."
Kong covered his fists in dense Armament Haki, dark and crackling with red lightning.
"Mighty Monkey Fist!"
With a single step, Kong closed the distance and unleashed a flurry of punches on Charlotte.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each punch struck with devastating force, the last imbued with Kong's full power. His eyes widened as he released a massive wave of Haki through his final punch, aiming for Charlotte's heart.
Charlotte, sensing the imminent threat of death, gritted his teeth.
"You must block this!"
Summoning the last reserves of his strength, Charlotte infused the Seven Star Sword with both Armament and Conqueror's Haki. Red and green lightning crackled around the blade as he raised it defensively.
Clang!
Fist and sword clashed, the force of their collision creating a massive shockwave. The energy between them built to a breaking point before exploding outward, sending both combatants flying.
As Kong steadied himself mid-air, he noticed Charlotte hurtling backward with a bloody smile on his face.
"Why is he smiling?" Kong wondered, his confusion momentary.
Then he saw it—a ship, coated and ready, positioned perfectly to catch Charlotte.
"Charlotte!" Kong roared in fury, realizing his mistake.
The crew aboard the ship caught Charlotte and immediately began their descent into the depths.
Kong clenched his fists, his injuries preventing him from diving into the water. He could only watch as Charlotte's ship disappeared beneath the waves.
"Retreat!" Kong ordered his remaining forces, his voice heavy with frustration. "Contact headquarters and request medical ships for the wounded."
The admiral's fury was palpable, and the surviving naval soldiers followed his orders in silence.

High above, Morgans reveled in the spectacle.
"Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful!"
He laughed as he reviewed the photos and footage captured by his reporters.
"Admiral Kong and the Bloody Great Swordsman Charlotte—what a headline! Publish it immediately and spread it across the seas!"
Newspaper gulls took flight, carrying the news to every corner of the world.
---
On the coated ship, Charlotte lay on the deck, his body battered and broken. Elena knelt beside him, her eyes filled with tears.
"You made it," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Charlotte's bloodied lips curled into a faint smile.
"Of course I did," he murmured weakly. "Didn't I promise you?"
Elena held his hand tightly, her tears falling onto his bruised skin.
As the ship descended into the deep, leaving the Sabaody Archipelago behind, Charlotte closed his eyes, allowing himself a moment of rest.
The battle was over, but the war was far from won.
