Bab 31: Chapter 31: Spinning Sand Attack
"Then I won't hold back! Sandshrew, use Rapid Spin!"
Ryoma's gaze sharpened as he issued the command directly. However, instead of having Sandshrew use Rollout as usual, he opted for the faster Rapid Spin, charging towards the still-remaining Scyther.
"Have you learned a new move during this time?"
Praying Mantis smiled in appreciation. As a civilian trainer without a solid foundation, successfully having a Pokémon master multiple powerful moves through personal exploration was indeed something commendable.
However, while Sandshrew's Rapid Spin was quick, Scyther barely regarded it. With a slight flash of its body, it effortlessly dodged just before the Rapid Spin could reach it, the scorn in its eyes evident.
"Hmm? Is it acting like a tsundere?"
Seeing this, Ryoma's expression slightly tightened, and he immediately ordered Sandshrew to continue using Rapid Spin to chase the opponent.
As expected, Scyther demonstrated its speed, only dodging at the last moment, causing the audience's hearts to race with excitement.
Scyther's speed was truly incredible; it was exhilarating!
"Sandshrew, use Rapid Spin again!"
Ryoma's voice carried a hint of irritation as he relentlessly commanded the use of Rapid Spin, exhibiting a somewhat stubborn attitude.
"It's useless. While it feels like bullying, your Sandshrew's speed cannot possibly hit Scyther!"
Praying Mantis appeared quite relaxed, knowing from the moment he stepped onto the stage that this Sandshrew stood no chance against his Scyther.
The advantages of speed and flight made it impossible for Sandshrew!
"At this moment, use Spinning Sand Attack!"
Just as Scyther intended to rely on speed to dodge Rapid Spin again, Sandshrew suddenly enveloped itself in a fierce whirlwind, sending a storm of sand and debris towards the nearby Scyther!
"What?"
Everyone was taken aback by Sandshrew's unexpectedly explosive spinning Sand Attack!
Scyther, which had been planning to tease the opponent, was caught up in the strong airflow generated by the spinning Sand Attack, its figure beginning to spin upwards with the rising gale!
Puff puff puff!
At the same time, the swirling sandstorm relentlessly battered against Scyther, producing a barrage of crackling sounds as it continuously suffered the blows!
"Get it together, Scyther! Burst out!"
The previously relaxed Praying Mantis Champion could no longer maintain his composure. He quickly shouted commands, urgency evident in his voice!
"Ha!"
Seeing this, Scyther let out a sharp cry, flapping its wings behind it in an attempt to stabilize its position forcibly.
"Now is the time to throw Scyther out!"
Noticing Scyther trying to break free, a glimmer of light appeared in Ryoma's eyes. He had finally managed to trap his opponent when they were off guard; if it escaped now, this battle would become much more difficult!
Seeing this, Sandshrew also let out a low growl as all its energy burst forth. Its rotating body swung sideways, wrapping the swirling sandstorm from the spinning Sand Attack around itself and violently flinging it toward the side wall!
Wham!
After using Rapid Spin, Sandshrew was rotating at incredible speed. When it swung its body to the side, it made the sandstorm swirl along with it, striking like a whip, with a speed so fast it was almost blinding!
Suddenly, the swirling sandstorm shattered under the centrifugal force of the Rapid Spin, creating a deafening roar as it carried sand and debris, crashing into the protective barrier, producing a series of crackling sounds!
Boom!
Almost instantaneously, Scyther, caught in the swirling sandstorm, was also sent flying alongside it, its entire body crashing against the protective wall, shaking the entire arena!
At that moment, the audience fell into a dead silence, all eyes fixed on Scyther, which was now embedded in the wall, everyone in a state of shock.
They couldn't understand why Scyther, which had seemed so formidable just a moment ago, was now being flung away like a dead dog.
Everything had happened too suddenly!
The stark contrast left everyone wide-eyed, completely stunned!
"Is this for real?"
"Why was that attack so powerful? Was it the sandstorm? What even is this?"
"Ahhh, I can't make sense of it at all! Could that be some new move that wasn't registered? The power is just outrageous!"
"Who's to say otherwise? This power must have surpassed a storm! And with that speed, it's completely unsolvable!"
"Wow, this is a game-changing moment! Taking out Scyther with one hit—this guy can't have reached the advanced level already, can he?"
After a brief moment of silence, the entire arena erupted into chaos. Everyone was filled with shock and disbelief, voicing their astonishment!
"Hey, hey, hey, is that it?"
"What was that attack?!"
In the Champion's lounge, all the Champions could no longer sit still. They stood up in stunned disbelief, their eyes glued to Scyther and Sandshrew in the arena.
"Tyrant, what was that move? A Ground-type ultimate move?"
After a moment, Raiden snapped out of his daze and looked eagerly at the Ground-type Trainer, Tyrant.
"I'm not exactly sure of the specifics, but that move appears to be a combination of Rapid Spin and Sand Attack. The reason for its power likely stems from the speed of Rapid Spin!" Tyrant hesitated before explaining.
"Combination move?"
"First, using Rapid Spin and Sand Attack to create that sandstorm, then flinging it out like a whip to unleash such a powerful attack?!"
"If that's the case, then that boy in the arena is too terrifying!"
Upon hearing Rock Champion's speculation, the other Champions' expressions changed slightly. While it sounded simple, the difficulty involved was unimaginable!
First, the technique of multitasking was crucial. To execute that move, one must simultaneously use Rapid Spin and Sand Attack, which isn't something just any Pokémon can learn.
In the arena, the only Pokémon capable of multitasking like this was Machoke from the Fighting Trainer, who could simultaneously use Fire Punch and Ice Punch as simple applications.
In addition to multitasking, precise control over Sand Attack was essential as well; otherwise, if the sandstorm hadn't fully formed, the sand would disperse.
Finally, to complete that whip strike required an even higher level of control over Sand Attack!
One could say that even Ryoma, the one who developed this move, had not anticipated how high the difficulty would be!
