Bab 69: Treasure hunt (I)

Finally, Liam held an ultimate skill in his hand. Although one would always receive one through the class change, its power depended on the evaluation of the fight.

Naturally there were other ways to get ultimate skills, but only this one would be tailor made for his class.

With the reward in hand, the quest was naturally completed. But Ganala was not done yet.

"Bleary Mirage, it is a joyous occasion for us to welcome one more holy tempest. But unfortunately, we don't have time to celebrate.

Do you know why only the three of us are gathered here?"

Ganala pointed at Demuni and Lerg.

"It's because out lineage is embroiled in fierce fights. Now that you joined us, some of this responsibility must be carried by you as well."

Liam stayed calm as he listened. In real life he might complain about being tricked, but in the game one could never have enough quests.

"Newbie, why don't you visit Enmegala in Red Mist City. She could surely need your help."

Liam nodded, accepting the quest. But he didn't decide to go right now. Red Mist City was a human city which was constantly clashing with the hellish Infernals.

But the biggest danger of this quest weren't the monsters but the infernal players.

In Fate of Crunaboul players belonging to hostile factions could freely attack each other. Naturally players loved doing so to interfere in each other's quests.

Thus, Liam needed to wait until his alleys grabbed some of the infernals' attention before he dared to come close to their territory. Even as a pro he couldn't deal with a horde of enemies.

However, outwardly he reassured Ganala happily while asking the NPC for information.

A few seconds later Liam got everything he needed, saying his goodbyes to the three holy tempests.

Finally, I got my class. What should I do now?

Liam was in a good mood, strolling along the mountain path while contemplating his next moves.

At the same time, he did a quick check of his status.

A lot has changed. Now my equipment is lagging behind. Maybe I should look for a few treasure chests.

Liam pondered for a while, remembering treasure chests he could loot before other players arrived.

Making his way down the mountain, he leisurely chatted with his friends.

[Bleary Mirage: How is everyone doing?]

[Radiant Shield: Me and Bloody Edge have made contact with the holy nephilim.]

[Bleary Mirage: Not bad.]

[Silver Blade: I have found the Winged Vanguard.]

[Bleary Mirage: Good. Focus on the quest, you need a good evaluation for your magical vanguard class.]

[Silver Blade: Yeah.]

[Cyclone: MIRAGE! I need help.]

[Bleary Mirage: What? I can't help with your class quest.]

[Cyclone: I did everything as you told me. But then I found some secret passage and entered a circle of magi. Now my quest changed.]

Bleary Mirage read the message with a frown. His mind moved quickly, trying to figure out what happened to Cyclone. Suddenly his eyes opened wide.

[Bleary Mirage: Do those magi have a blue claw on their robes?]

[Cyclone: Yes!]

Bleary Mirage was stunned. He never expected Cyclone to find the Lightning Hawk alliance.

In Fate of Crunaboul there were beasts born for magic, embodiments of their respective elements. And there were secret organizations worshiping these beasts.

The Lightning Hawk Alliance was one of these organizations. But their whereabouts were usually extremely hidden and even changing from time to time.

Thus, even Liam couldn't pinpoint them.

Cyclone's luck is unbelievable…

[Bleary Mirage: Cyclone, you found a secret organization called Lightning Hawk Alliance. Did your quest really change after talking to them?]

[Cyclone: Yes, really really.]

[Bleary Mirage: Alright. Then how about you look for some treasures for a while. Let's all get our classes first before helping with yours.]

[Cyclone: But… how long will this take?]

[Bleary Mirage: A few hours I guess.]

[Cyclone: Ok…]

Seeing that Cyclone reluctantly agreed, Liam urged the others to complete their quests.

If Liam wasn't mistaken Cyclone might have found a unique class. Those were immensely powerful, but it was unusual that she could learn it at level 10.

For example, the chaotic tempest Liam set his eyes on was a unique class but could only be learned from level 50 and after solving the race quest of original nephilim.

Liam rummaged through his memories, but he stopped when his target appeared in front of his eyes.

A small distance away from the main street was a block of houses forming a ring with a large yard inside.

Two rough looking men in black clothes stood at the entrance, one of them surprisingly from the orc race.

Liam checked their status, finding their names written in red.

[Bloody Gall bandit

Rank: Common

Level: 11

HP: 1550/1550]

This was something unique to Duabalis City. Only here would one find enemies within the city area.

Since the nephilim were rather lax in their rules, only the core city area was kept save. Venturing out all kinds of monsters could be met.

Bandits also liked to settle here after being chased away from their home regions.

However, most players wouldn't think this deeply. For them it was simply 'see enemy, kill enemy'.

Liam also didn't come for some elaborate reason other than hoping to grab some loot.

With a grin the veteran prepared for the fight, taking out two skillbooks. They were [Cross Slash] and [Holy Tempest].

A simple thought was enough to learn those, granting him two new skills.

Liam approached the guards with a confident stride.

"Halt!"

"Who goes there!"

Seeing that the audacious nephilim didn't stop, the two bandits immediately attacked.

Liam took a deep breath as he readied his swords. He didn't dodge the first attacks, deciding to trade damage and stacking holy marks on his enemies.

It worked…

Liam grinned as he saw the symbol above the bandits' heads. A second later he attacked again before dodging between the opponents and entering the yard behind them.

"Stop right there!"

The two bandits hollered angrily as they followed him.

Inside, Liam was met with a chaotic scene. Tables and chairs were spread wildly on a stone square. Clothes hung form some lines. A few bandits conversed in groups.

Towards one side was a small pile of loot. Two treasure chests peeked out, enticing Liam.

That's the place.

Liam grinned faintly as he moved like the wind. He stabbed his two swords towards other opponents, aggroing another two bandits, before directly activating [Holy Tempest].

A shimmering, golden energy immediately streamed towards Liam, playing around his skin. He felt his body lightening up, every movement feeling more natural.

A sword came form behind his head. Liam didn't need to look as he danced to the side.

With a grin he returned the attack in kind.

[-198!]

[-99!]

With holy tempest activated the holy marks on the bandits' head continued to stack dangerously.

But time was ticking in the corner of Liam's eyes.

[Holy Tempest: 7s... 6s…]

"Intruder! Do you know who you are messing with?"

One of the bandits shouted angrily as he hacked towards Liam. The veteran dodged perfectly without any wasted movements, brining himself in position for a [Double Slash].

[Stance -9]

Liam's swords raced through the air. Another holy mark was applied before his second sword triggered them.

[-210!]

[-324!]

[-494!]

A large amount of damage hit the first enemy as four holy marks exploded above his head. Naturally the others weren't spared as well.

The beautiful move immediately allowed Liam to recover a lot of stance while pushing holy tempest's remaining duration above 20 seconds.

Liam was satisfied with his opening. Subsequently he continued the fight, evading the bandits with his large amount of stance and stacking holy marks continuesly.

A few seconds later the first two bandits dropped to the floor. Instead of getting rid of the others as well, Liam jumped over a table, his swords aiming for a new group of enemies.

"Where do you come from?! Brothers, attack!"

Liam was instantly embroiled in a fight against five opponents. But this was exactly what he wanted as it allowed him to constantly uphold some holy marks.

With a perfect rotation of attacks, using [Cross Slash] and [Holy Magic Wave] to apply holy marks and [Brutal Strike] as well as [Double Slash] to trigger them, he could guarantee an almost endless supply of stance.

Unfortunately, his last skill was difficult to use in solo fights as it required a casting time of two seconds.

Thus, he could only ignore it for now as he worked himself through the bandits.

The opponents fell one by one under his blade. Liam could already see himself opening the treasure chest when a rumble suddenly spread within the yard.

A door almost flew out of its hinges as a burly man with tattoos on his face came out.

"What's going on here?!"
