With the fight about to start, Silver Blade naturally first inspected the opponent.
[Reylar, the devilish nephilim
Rank: Boss
Level: 9
HP: 1.000.000/10.000
Skill 1: ???
Skill 2: ???
Skill 3: ???]
"Huh? What's up with those HP?"
"This can't be right."
"There needs to be a trick behind it."
Naturally it wasn't difficult to figure out. Silent Acacia pointed at the dark liquid blobs.
"Destroy those first!"
Everyone agreed readily. Silver Blade and Radiant Shield cautiously approached Reylar, planning to hold the boss back, while the rest swarmed out to destroy the blobs.
Boom!
An explosion shook the room. Everyone stopped in their tracks, staring at Cyclone who had just destroyed the first blob from a distance.
"Don't you dare!"
Reylar growled angrily, smashing his two spears against the ground. A wave of dark magic travelled along the floor, aiming for Cyclone.
"Oh no! Dodge!"
Silver Blade was too slow, not able to intercept the attack. Cyclone felt her chest tighten. But she was quite a distance away from Reylar, giving her enough time to step to the side.
Unfortunately, Quickstep stood in the line between the mage and the boss. Expecting the skill to target Cyclone, she was too late to evade, getting hit directly.
[-222!]
Quickstep drew a sharp breath as she lost nearly half her HP from a single attack.
"Careful guys! Don't attack randomly!"
Radiant Shield and Silver Blade showed grave expression as they neared Reylar. A subconscious pressure barreled down on them, dampening their movement.
"That looks like a magic attack, let me block it!", announced Silver Blade.
But Radiant Shield had some doubts:
"Should we even block it? Maybe it is better for the others to evade."
"You got a point."
While the two tank were still discussing, Reylar was already turning towards them. He raised his spears and swung them at Radiant Shield.
[Stance -13]
[Stance -8]
The burly warrior's body trembled, air almost leaving his lungs.
"Damn, looks like it's a mix of magical and physical damage again."
"Everyone! Careful!"
Silent Acacia realized that none of the melee attackers dared to get near the blobs after the earlier explosion, thus taking things into his own hands.
He fired an arrow, followed by another deafening explosion. Right after, Reylar turn his way with murderous eyes, ready to kill.
"Don't stand in the way!"
The young thief warned his teammates as he saw a wave of dark magic coming towards him like a predator in the night.
He watched with relief as nobody stood in the way, dodging effortlessly with a few light steps.
The wave continued for a bit before crashing into the wall.
"Good job!"
"That's it!"
Fortune felt encouraged by Silent Acacia's ease, destroying the next blob.
At this moment the two tanks wore solemn faces as Reylar raised his saber for another attack.
But when an explosion reached their ears, he stopped his movements, focusing on Fortune.
"He stopped!"
"That's the strategy! We need to keep him occupied!"
As the party continued to destroy the blobs, they gradually figured out more tricks. But implementing them was still difficult.
Reylar managed to get two more attacks in, putting heavy pressure on Silver Blade and Radiant Shield.
However, after a few moments the blobs were finally destroyed.
"Phew, done! I hope we can fight normally now!"
The party watched carefully as Reylar's connections with the black liquid broke.
"You! Why are you resisting?! I won't kill you!"
The powerful nephilim growled as the black color on his skin surged like a stormy sea. He gritted his teeth, stabbing one of his spears into the floor.
The dark energy around his weapons retreated, gathering on his now empty hand and morphing into a viscous dark liquid.
He raised his disgusting hand, swinging it towards Silver Blade.
Liam couldn't help but shout a warning:
"Don't block! Dodge!"
Silver Blade was just about to raise her shield when she reacted instinctively, evading backwards.
[Stance -8]
The liquid landed on the ground, melting off a layer of stone.
"Thanks!"
Silver Blade was glad not to get doused by the disgusting attack.
But Reylar's movements didn't cease yet. His other spear, now without the dark energy engulfing it, hacked towards Radiant Shield.
The tank gritted his teeth. Surmising that this was a physical attack, he took a step to the side, welcoming the saber with his shield.
[Stance -10]
"My stance is almost used up!", informed the tank gravely.
"Damn, the fight didn't even start yet!"
"Hurry up, guys!"
Liam waved his sword, rallying the party to attack. His weapon cut through the air, reaching Reylar's stomach.
[-41!]
Bloody Edge entered stealth, sneaking behind the boss. His eyes were focused on the part where both wings met, having already figured out this weak point of the nephilim.
With a quick flourish of his dagger, he stabbed precisely.
But not only did the expected critical hit not occur, Bloody Edge was even unable to land a normal attack.
Holy and dark magic combined below his dagger, showing signs of conflict yet forming a shield. A small explosion followed, throwing the thief backwards.
[-100!]
"Oh, come on!"
Bloody Edge shouted indignantly as he dragged up his body from the floor.
Balm looked around in concern, asking Silver Blade:
"Should I heal once?"
"Yes. Heal Quickstep."
"Why not me?", complained Bloody Edge.
"You're a thief, learn to dodge!"
Bloody Edge rolled his eyes but didn't continue to argue.
A green magic fell on Quickstep, bringing her back to full HP.
"Thanks guys!"
With Bloody Edge's failed attempt, the melees didn't manage to do a lot of damage.
But a moment later the ranged attackers were ready.
Cyclone waved her magical weapon, eager to let everyone marvel at her prowess. But…
[-31!]
The blond woman rolled her eyes as her damage was once again below Liam's.
Naturally Fortune and Balm weren't much better off.
Reylar appeared to have a mocking look in his eyes as his saber aimed for Radiant Shield. The tank knew that his stance was running low, bracing for the damage.
[-46!]
"Looks like you can hold on for a while."
"We'll see."
Subsequently the fight entered a routine of attacking and being attacked. The party began using their skills, only saving their controlling skills for critical moments.
Soon, Reylar dropped more than a thousand HP.
"Why continue to struggle? Let me show you true bliss!"
The boss spoke angrily as black liquid gathered towards him. It covered his body, shielding him but also forcing him to stand in place.
Cyclone threw another probing attack, dealing a pitiful damage of 1.
Recognizing that the boss was about to pull off a big move, the party retreated wisely in advance, keeping their eyes focused on Reylar.
Suddenly Balm frowned, perceiving a movement behind her.
She turned around, looking at a patch of black liquid. It whirled left and right, eventually concentrating towards the center, forming a strange figure.
Standing upright it barely reached Balm's waist. It had a sticky body surface, with claws for hands. Even without a face it emitted a strange bloodlust.
"Ew, guys! What… what is that?"
When Balm's question reached the party, they looked around the room, finding dozens such figures rising from the ground.
[Liquid Puppet
Rank: common
Level: 5
HP: 1/1]
"We're surrounded…", Silver Blade's voice was stern, contemplating how to deal with the situation.
Meanwhile, the puppets already moved towards the party, their steps slow but threatening.
The ranged classes quickly began to fire. The puppets fell one by one, but they were just too many.
Soon, they came into attack range.
Everyone did their best to dodge hastily. But within the narrow space the party found it difficult to maneuver. While running into each other they also had no time to get in attacks of their own.
Eventually Silver Blade waved her sword:
"Forget dodging, guys! Attack them!"
The others nodded, swinging their weapons. After a few seconds they glanced at Quickstep, who managed to open up some space.
"Hey, tell us your strategy!", exclaimed Cyclone.
"It's my sword's effect! Finally, it proves useful!"
[Saber of the blue tide
Category: Uncommon
Effect 2: Every attack deals splash damage of 0,5%(PDMG) water damage.]
Although the damage caused as splash damage was low, it was a great counter to the many puppets.
Seeing this, Cyclone hit her own forehead.
"How could I forget this!"
With a grin she took out a small dark sphere. She was just about to throw it when Liam hastily stopped her.
"Don't! Save them!"
"Why?", asked the mage reluctantly.
Liam opened his mouth, but he didn't know what to say. Telling the party now that they won't be able to defeat the boss would be a heavy blow to morale.
Fortunately, Cyclone complied, nevertheless. Thus, the party continued fighting the puppets arduously.
However, with this strategy the puppets were able to chip away at everyone's health bar little by little. Soon, Bloody Edge was close to death.
He sighed, knowing that Liam wouldn't allow him to use a health potion.
Luckily, just before the thief was about to die, the liquid surrounding Reylar surged wildly.
It spun, forming a languid whirlpool, a suction force suddenly affecting the puppets.
Those stopped in place before helplessly being dragged towards Reylar and dissolving into the whirlpool.
Another week is over ;-)
