Bab 123: Cleaning up the battlefield

"Captain Celesna, I'm sorry. The undead army is approaching, and I... I can't stay."

He cast an apologetic glance at Celesna and then fled in a frenzied panic. His hasty departure triggered a domino effect, and the soldiers of fortune under Qina, Celesna, and Teresa all wore expressions of shame and remorse as they trailed after the retreating main force.

They were deathly afraid and couldn't fathom why the three captains had opted to hold their ground. In their minds, those wounded mercenaries were too gravely injured to be salvaged. Why endanger their own lives for the doomed?

Witnessing the mercenaries fleeing one after another, Teresa's countenance remained placid. She glanced back at the scant few who had stayed by her side. There weren't many, just over ten. These weren't common mercenaries; they were her loyal servants, devoted to the higher-ups, and the only ones she could truly rely on.
