Bab 60: Chapter 59: Lonesome Journey

"Holy Shit...", I gasped with shaky lips.

The sight before me was just too unfathomable.

I had laid on the ground or rather...the elevated position I had found myself on, which so happened to be the walls of a ginormous quarry.

The massive beast along with its deformed devourers were at the center.

BWHOOSH!

With each breath the beast took, a large amount of dust which was followed by a powerful gale.

The dust was released from its nostrils before diffusing across the space, taking the form of the elusive fog of sand and cloaking the edges of the quarry.

The sheer scale of the scene was so mind-boggling, easily dwarfing every structure created in the history of humanity with the exception of the Tower of Babel.

Then again, those who attempted to build the Tower of Babel were apparently...touched by God.

"I-is that a fucking giant?!"

I exclaimed at the top of my lungs before slapping my hands over my mouth and lowering my head.

T-those things didn't hear me, right?

The things I was referring to were apparently thousands of deformed creatures who all gnawed on the flesh of the massive behemoth like rabid beasts.

They looked like fleshy tumors, holding no discernible shape other than merely being revolting piles of bulbous masses.

The tumors fought and ruthlessly killed each other over the giant's meat, some even ate themselves, indulging in cannibalistic behavior.

It was purely survival of the fittest at its lowest.

"Ugh..."

My stomach churned, making me want to keel over and hurl. The only thing stopping me from doing that was my Level 6 constitution and Resistance.

On God what am I watching?

I stared at the massive behemoth who simply respired, completely ignoring the thousand creatures who ravaged its flesh.

The very scene seemed so alien, making me dizzy.

I-is...isn't it alive? Why is it letting them eat it?

I continued to stare at the scene, getting more and more revolted by each passing second.

No what is this? What are those things? Cancer? Just who were the developers that made this shit? Just what the actual fuck is this?

Suddenly, I felt a yearning to return back to the skeleton horde – a feeling I never thought I would experience.

"Ugh...Fuck you, Untethered.", I spat, my face blue.

I lingered for several minutes, simply watching them before looking away and muttering.

"Where do I go now?"

It was a crucial question.

In the last couple of hours, I had simply just been walking with no apparent destination in mind. I had been clinging unto the false hope of miraculously finding a way out, completely ignoring the fact that it was merely wishful thinking.

Now I have reached a dead-end.

I stared around the space, trying to find a way to flee.

I can't even dream of circling or crossing this quarry...it'd take my whole lifetime...going back isn't an option either...that place is a dead end...

Once my train of thoughts ended, I suddenly let out a self-depreciating laugh.

"The cycle repeats itself...once again...there's no way out..."

My gaze slowly turned dark and my head lowered, I wanted to curse my past self. If not for my stupid curiosity, I would never have fallen into this mess.

If I had never felt so adventurous in the first place, none of this would have happened. I wouldn't have needed to see the horrors of this world.

It felt relieving – to pass the blame for my predicament to someone else, to have another person take responsibility for my own mistakes but strangely, I felt like I was being ungrateful.

After all, if I had never gone on this journey then I would never have become as strong as I was now.

I would never have gained clarity nor sharpen my fighting and mental skills.

This grueling journey both had its merits and demerits.

But it had to have an end...and I was going to see that end.

HAA...

I let out a weary sigh and stared at the harrowing sight below, my expression was one of apprehension yet my eyes burned with dark determination.

My legs planted themselves on the ground and, using my hands, I pushed myself to my feet.

"Woah!", I stumbled for a moment, my legs quivering from the primal fear of heights before stabilizing.

I outstretched my hand and called forth.

Silver Lining.

[Equipped Item: Silver Lining.]

I grasped the silver sword in my hands and stared at it. My gaze remained fixated on it for a while before I suddenly lowered my head with a sad smile.

To think that one day...I'll come to depend on a sword as my lifeline...how laughable...

I let out a low laugh before shaking my head, chasing away any notions of doubt before steeling myself. I stared at Silver Lining with a sharp expression before taking a deep breath and exhaling fiercely.

"A dying prince stood before a tarnished crown, brandishing a silver sword in hand..."

"This sword brought forth a flame of hope to the prince's heart... and with that hope came great solitude."

"...with great solitude, comes great power and great revelations."

I took another breath and then spoke, "Silver Lining...you gave hope to a dying prince, igniting the flame in his heart but filling him with great loneliness...that loneliness in turn gave him great power and brought him revelations."

"Right now, I couldn't care less about feeling lonely...I just want to get out of here...to leave this place behind and escape from this hell...", I trailed off, my voice turning low and weak, as if I were begging,

"Please...Silver Lining...please save me from this hell..."

Maybe the dying prince didn't beg like this, maybe he was much more valiant, more noble and had pride.

Maybe even when he lost hope, he didn't break down into a mess.

But...I... I'm not like that...

I want to live.

I don't want to die here.

Not in this cruel world of a game...that would mean losing to this game...to this world...and I who had lost once already.

How could I lose again?

I didn't want to lose; I didn't want to die.

I wanted to live. I wanted to eat this world, to chew it and swallow it.

I wanted this world to burn.

And it wouldn't burn until I set it ablaze.

Wait...hu-

My confused thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a fierce glint.

SHEEN!

The blade of Silver Lining suddenly shone with brilliant light.

[You have been affected by Effect: Undying Will.]

My eyes suddenly shone as a revelation dawned on me and a powerful wave of energy engulfed my being.

...what?

My expression was one of utter bewilderment as my eyes settled on the massive giant.

There's a hole under it?!
