Kaitlyn finally arrived.
She couldn't see through Lin Feng's every move, unable to imagine that the amiable scientist could turn into such a formidable combatant in an instant.
"Lin Feng! This is Ekko. We came to find him, so let him go!"
If Ekko hadn't attacked first and if Lin Feng weren't a scientist, Kaitlyn would have drawn her gun as a threat.
However, according to the laws of Piltover, all of Lin Feng's previous actions could be considered self-defense.
Lin Feng maintained an expressionless face, as if he hadn't heard anything.
Ekko was being choked tightly; he struggled desperately to pry Lin Feng's hand away but to no avail.
After a few seconds, Lin Feng's expression changed as if he had just received a delayed message, and he suddenly let go.
"Ah... so you're one of us? My apologies!"
In Ekko's eyes, this sounded like a ghost story, pure nonsense.
If one could trust Lin Feng's words, then that would be truly bizarre.
The seemingly innocent-looking person before him was undoubtedly dangerous!
Ekko grabbed the hextech baton that had fallen to the ground, turning to resume his fight with Lin Feng.
But Kaitlyn wasn't idle either; she immediately grabbed Ekko.
"Ekko, let me explain!"
Lin Feng raised his hands, looking disinterested, stepping back two paces, fully avoiding conflict.
Of course, this wasn't just an act.
The mission was complete.
Others might not know, but Lin Feng understood perfectly.
When he had Ekko's throat in a chokehold, the outcome had already been decided; the system could judge better than him.
The 50 gold coins and the design schematic for the Z-Drive resonance had already entered his system backpack, ready for use.
With the rewards in hand, Lin Feng naturally didn't want to fight anymore; he wasn't a violent person.
Kaitlyn pulled Ekko to the side and, after some persuasion, Ekko finally calmed down a bit. Time had matured him; sometimes violence wouldn't solve the problem.
Without the turbo booster, he was even less a match for the man before him.
Ekko kept wondering why his earlier strike had done no damage to Lin Feng, especially since Lin Feng was unarmored.
What Ekko couldn't imagine was that Lin Feng was wearing a short green cloak on his shoulder.
The Ghost Cloak provided an additional 25 magic resistance, literally giving a certain level of immunity against magic.
Most of the magical energy released from the hextech baton had been neutralized by the Ghost Cloak, and coupled with the inherent magical power within Lin Feng, he had a natural resistance to external magical attacks, leaving the damage minimal.
The blow he received was merely a result of the physical force behind Ekko's swing, but Lin Feng took it without significant injury.
"An apple for a stick," Lin Feng retrieved a green-glowing gun-like device from his backpack, the hextech healing gun.
Seeing this, Ekko's expression changed again, readying himself for an immediate counterattack.
"Don't be nervous; this is for healing."
Lin Feng's words were just a ruse, and Ekko naturally didn't believe him, staring coldly at Lin Feng.
Kaitlyn also came to Lin Feng's aid, saying, "It's all a misunderstanding... Ekko, that gun really is for healing."
"I don't need it."
Before Ekko could finish, Lin Feng had already pulled the trigger.
Ekko instinctively tried to dodge, but in front of the hextech healing gun, any evasion was useless.
A green light chased after Ekko, wrapping around him, warm energy surged through his body, visibly healing his previous wounds.
Ekko was astonished; when did Piltover get this kind of technology?
"Sorry about that; it was a misunderstanding, and I apologize!"
Lin Feng's acting skills were once again on display; he was generous with humble words, his attitude sincere enough to make Ekko start to doubt himself.
Could it really have been a misunderstanding?
Ekko turned to Kaitlyn, pointing the baton at Lin Feng: "Who is he?"
Kaitlyn hurriedly explained while introducing Ekko to Lin Feng.
Lin Feng had long known Ekko but pretended it was their first meeting, surprised to learn that Ekko was now living with Heimerdinger.
It made sense; without working alongside the great scientist Heimerdinger, Ekko alone wouldn't be able to develop the Z-Drive resonance—at least he needed a scientific foundation.
After listening to Kaitlyn's introduction, Ekko's face showed no change, but his inner shock was even greater.
This person might be a scientist even more formidable than Jayce?
Yet Ekko still felt that something was off.
Suspicious... too suspicious!
Putting other thoughts aside, Ekko coldly stated, "You should know, Zaun doesn't welcome you!"
Kaitlyn's tone grew serious, "There was a hextech explosion in the upper city... we need an explanation."
Ekko paused, seemingly recalling something, and fell silent.
The air became thick with tension, and Lin Feng laughed awkwardly, playing the fool: "How about we first look for Professor Heimerdinger?"
Ekko shot a glance at Lin Feng; although he was reluctant, there seemed to be no other choice.
The hextech theft incident was well-known even among the lower city folk, and considerable pressure was coming from both upper and lower levels.
Refusing to let the two in wasn't a solution, especially since Ekko still trusted Kaitlyn to some extent.
"Hmph," Ekko took a step forward.
"Follow me."
Lin Feng had no psychological burden, happily following along, only thinking about what treasures he could trade for with the 50 gold coins.
Increase the limit of magical power?
Exchange for some new gear?
Get some powerful equipment or items?
Or maybe trade for some vibranium to play with?
Anything would do!
Lin Feng followed along without emotion, leaving only Kaitlyn and Ekko talking intermittently.
"Why didn't Vi come? Isn't she also an enforcer?"
Kaitlyn's expression stiffened slightly, "You know, Vi is now with Jinx..."
She didn't continue, and Ekko didn't press the matter; his gaze was fixed ahead, unblinking, lost in thought.
Vi and Jinx were also regrets and pains in Ekko's heart.
"Are you sure this person can be trusted?"
Kaitlyn's next question made her falter, but she had no choice but to press on. Since Lin Feng had come to assist her with the case, they had to act together; she steeled herself and said,
"If there's a problem, I'll take responsibility."
Ekko sighed; as a child, he had thought all enforcers coming from the upper city were villains, and that not opposing them was a sign of weakness.
Only as he matured did Ekko understand that Piltover enforcers, like the lower city people, had their own difficulties. Simply making things difficult for the enforcers wouldn't effectively solve any problems; decisions had to come from the higher-ups.
No further dialogue ensued, and Ekko focused on leading the way.
Navigating through a maze of alleys, the three finally stopped in front of a large door.
"We've arrived."
