The melody of a waltz softly echoed through the hall as the party transitioned into its next phase—dancing. The marble floor sparkled under the lights, and couples slowly filled the space and began to sway and spin in perfect harmony.
Standing at the edge of the dance floor with Elion and Kade, Raelynn's eyes bounced from the dancers and the shining floor, unsure of where to look. She shifted awkwardly, couldn't shake the feeling of being completely out of place. To her right, Elion looked as unbothered as ever, his hands resting in his pockets, looking as if he'd rather be anywhere else. To her left, Kade looked far more at ease, grinning like he found the whole thing amusing.
"Well," Kade said, breaking the silence as he surveyed the guests. "I'd say Raelynn's doing her job just fine."
Raelynn blinked and turned to him, confused. "Job? What job?"
