The next day at the Heaven Dou Great Spirit Arena, Thunderclap Academy's resting area:
Yu Xiaogang was outlining the strategy. "Tianxin, Tang San, today's opponent is Blazing Academy. Initially, they were supposed to compete with Tianshui Academy yesterday, which would have given us a good chance to observe both academies' strength. But for some reason, they both chose to forfeit, so we lack crucial intel on them."
He continued, focusing on the vice-captain, Huo Wu. "She's only shown her first and second spirit abilities so far, but she's undoubtedly formidable. Tang San, do you think your Blue Silver Grass can handle it?"
Yu Xiaogang's tone was grave. Although Tang San's Blue Silver Grass had gained some fire resistance, the limited time for preparation meant this resistance would only hold against the standard attacks of other Blazing Academy members for a few moments. Against Huo Wu's fire, it likely wouldn't last even a second.
Everyone in Thunderclap Academy looked to Tang San. As a control-type spirit master, Tang San's capabilities were undeniable, but against Blazing Academy, his spirit's natural disadvantage was glaring. Another control-type spirit master might serve better since they wouldn't be inherently countered by Blazing Academy's fire attribute.
Tang San nodded. "While my Blue Silver Grass is indeed at a disadvantage, and it may not hold them for long, I can focus on assisting my teammates. And if that doesn't work, I have a backup plan."
Yu Xiaogang knew Tang San's "backup plan" meant using his second spirit, the Clear Sky Hammer. This was, after all, something he had recommended yesterday. Facing Blazing Academy, it might be wise not to hold back since they were likely to encounter each other again in later rounds.
Since Tang San had his backup plan, captain Yu Tianxin saw no reason to object. With Tang San's spirit power rank being fairly high, and as a fellow member of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, Yu Tianxin held some expectations.
While Thunderclap Academy typically had an easy time against Blazing Academy, this year was different. Blazing Academy boasted six Spirit Elders, with Huo Wu's level as high as forty-seven, even surpassing Yu Tianxin's own rank. This added considerable pressure; a lineup of only four Spirit Elders, as they had initially considered, would almost guarantee a loss.
"Uncle, how should we structure our lineup today? They have six Spirit Elders and two support-type Spirit Masters who enhance their team's attacks. Huo Wu is at forty-seven!"
Yu Xiaogang considered the idea of forfeiting, but Thunderclap Academy, being one of the top elemental academies, had a reputation to uphold. And since Tang San's Blue Silver Grass could absorb spirit power and attributes, prolonged contact with Blazing Academy's fire attribute would only benefit him.
"Therefore," Yu Xiaogang continued, "to maintain Thunderclap's standing, we need a stronger lineup. There are two options: one, we field six Spirit Elders with Oscar supporting from the rear, excluding Dai Mubai to conserve his strength; or two, we go all in with seven Spirit Elders."
Both Yu Tianxin and Tang San were silent, weighing the options carefully.
Ultimately, Yu Tianxin decided on the first plan. Although it appeared to be more conservative, it was likely more effective. Of the seven Spirit Elders, none were support-type, and their lightning spirit abilities drained spirit power rapidly. Oscar's sausages would offset this, providing valuable support, and even allowing them to temporarily retreat in mid-air if needed.
Yu Xiaogang was pleased with this decision, as the first option offered more strategic flexibility.
Oscar also voiced his agreement. Thanks to the secret techniques and pills Tang San provided, he had advanced by a level and a half, reaching thirty-eight and a half. He hoped to reach Spirit Elder rank during the qualifying matches, at which point he'd ask the dean to help him find a suitable spirit beast in the Sunset Forest. He was determined to impress Su Ming and Ning Rongrong.
Meanwhile, Ma Hongjun, who had been swapped out, was unfazed. This meant more time for him to train, and like Oscar, he had also gained a level and a half, reaching thirty-nine and a half. He was thrilled with the progress, having reached it with no apparent drawbacks.
What they didn't realize was that their quick progression was based on diminishing their lifespan and undermining their spirit foundations. Though the effects weren't immediate, the repercussions would surface over time.
Dai Mubai, however, had been training even more intensely. His spirit power had reached forty-five. If he could reach Spirit King level by the time they encountered Davis and Zhu Zhuyun, his chances in the match would significantly improve. But he knew he couldn't take anything lightly, especially without Zhu Zhuqing by his side to use the Hell White Tiger. Even with a Spirit King rank, he doubted his chances against Davis and Zhu Zhuyun's fusion technique.
However, for now, Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar chose not to reveal their full strength. They would keep it under wraps until the qualifying matches reached their midpoint.
